I'm suspending my normal Scientology tirade for this post, although it is likely I will drift back around to it. I do not understand the trend of the past 10 years or so of Hollywood dredging up classic/kitsch/campy titles only to pummel any ounce of humor and cleverness out of them. It may just be that I'm at the age where I've begun to notice the cycles, but it seems to be an ever-increasing trend. How the FUCK do you place John Travolta in Divine's shoes??? He's nothing but name equity--that's it. A draw. A boxoffice shill. Divine was a garrish, cross-dressing freak of monster-caliber whose roles should be forever kept out of reach of the likes of John Travolta.
However, I would eagerly watch a remake of Water's Pink Flamingos if Travolta followed in Divine's footsteps and ate dog shit.
/Stupid html. Need practice. Fucked up my link in the Stone post.
John Travolta, Tom Cruise. We don't CARE if you're gay. I agree that what makes them insufferable is the adherence to a doctrine that shuns their humanity.
Like Log Cabin Republicans or cross-dressing Pentacostals, you know. It's just bizarre to sign on to a group that would prefer to eliminate them (but will take their cash in the meantime.) Who would want to financially support people whose agenda was to eliminate their kind? It makes you almost feel sorry for them.
Of course at this point those two are dreadful and deserve all that we can dish out to them. Did you love the South Park episode? It was brilliant. Tom Cruise and John Travolta, come out of the cloh-set...
I have to say, though, that I can still see John Travolta strutting down the street in Saturday Night Fever. Hott. What really concerns me here is Beck. Free Beck!
I don't believe it's right for people to criticize and ridiclule John Travolta and Tom Cruise for following Scientology, or for possibly having an alternate sexual oreintation. I beleive it's enough to criticize and ridiclule them for being low talent ass wipes with an over inflated sense of self importance. But that's just what I believe.
