Ashlee Simpson is a Hypocrite

98 Comments:

  • I'm disappointed in Marie Claire.....I use to love that magazine, because they always seem to keep it real with their readers....& it's less of a "Hollywood" magazine. Marie Claire is more of a "everyday-young-modern-working woman"'s magazine......so, I'm really shocked that they are running this highly hypocritcal article with Ashlee Simpson!

    By Anonymous, on 10:44 AM

  • She sort of looks unfug in the second pic.

    By Anonymous, on 11:01 AM

  • What a bimbo! I suppose she wants us to forget her bitchfest at the McDonalds a couple of months ago too!
    Whatever, she's a loser.

    By Anonymous, on 11:03 AM

  • Normally, I'd rip all over her, but that one little nose job has made such an extremely huge difference and now she's frickin hot. Jessica can sing, and now Ashlee is the pretty one.

    By Anonymous, on 11:10 AM

  • Ashlee Simpson...and a group of African American and Latina teenagers.

It is really just too much.

    By Anonymous, on 11:33 AM

  • It's scary how much she's looking like Jessica. Reminds me of how Michael looks like LaToya (or Diana Ross).

I bet if you go to wikipedia now and look up hypocrite, you'll see Ashley's pic. Guess it goes with that BS lip sync on SNL, all fake, she is.

Some women with big noses look hot and her nosejob is a punch in the face to those ladies.

Of course, if you're a young woman and looking to either Simpson (or most of today's singers or actors) as a role model, you've got serious problems.

    By Anonymous, on 11:37 AM

  • Did she get her chin done too? That second pic doesn't even look like her!

She can have all the plastic surgery in the world but it won't make her less of an idiot. Just like Anna Nicole.

    By Anonymous, on 11:37 AM

  • heard a clip of an interview with her on the radio this AM (think it was with Ryan Seacrest).

he asked her about her nose job, and she didn't exactly deny it, but she sure didn't admit to it, either.

does she think that everyone is blind and doesn't notice the difference?

yeah, she looks better, but she is a big tool for not just admitting it and saying "it makes me feel better about myself".

    By doofus, on 11:38 AM

  • But isn't there anything they can do about her and Jessica's man-jaws?. she looks great in that second pic--but I'm thinking that's a flattering camera angle to make her big mannish jaw look less...um..mannish.

    By Sally, on 11:39 AM

  • she is a joke. while she is now physically attractive, her hypocrisy, superficiality, and mental retardation make her completely vile.

    By Anonymous, on 11:41 AM

  • There's nothing pretty or talented about this manufacured pile of garbage. I wish she'd disappear.

    By Anonymous, on 11:42 AM

  • Submitted. Not even close to what I wanted to say or how I wanted to say it, but I can be only so impressive with a 6-year-old boy talking nonstop in my ear. Good enough for what it will be worth to them anyway.

To the Editors of Marie Claire:

How unbelievably irresponsible can you possibly be? Ashlee Simpson as the poster girl for self-acceptance? The girl who did everything to make herself look as much like her famous sister as she could? The girl who had plastic surgery for a new nose? The girl who had her lips enhanced with injections? You even preface this farce with close-up shot of her new nose and lips.

"Everyone is made differently, and that's what makes us beautiful and unique. I want girls to look in the mirror and feel confident."

...just what was the price tag for Ms. Simpson's confidence?

She's a horrible role model, and Marie Claire should be ASHAMED for setting her apart from "the crowd." This makes her even worse than the rest of them.

Just above this box is a note for "...spotlighting one reader whose life was transformed after reading an issue of Marie Claire..." Is this how you want to transform lives? by convincing 13-year-old girls that this is the way to live? that this is who they should model themselves after, what they should look like, and who they should be? It's no wonder young girls have such a lack of self-esteem; even the people who are supposed to be helping them are abusing them. Way to go, Marie Claire.

  • Skank.

    By Tazznum1, on 12:07 PM

  • Maybe it's not their fault. Maybe the editors at Marie Claire are all severely learning disabled or retarded and just didn't realize they wrote the most hyptocritical article of all time.

By Oedipa Maas, on 12:14 PM

  • Jesus Todd. The only thing that is hilarious about this article is that you read Marie Claire magazine. I am sure the real money shot stuck the pages together.

    By Anonymous, on 12:18 PM

  • Bravo Stephanie, Bravo!!!

I agree completely, who is she kidding, she's "had it with hollywood's twisted view of feminin beauty"?? She is the poster child for Hollywood's version of young and pretty...let's see:
    Dye hair blonde.....check
    Lose all possible weight....check
    Lose 20 more pounds....check
Plastic surgery to get rid of anything that makes you unique...check

I hate her. Simple as that. She's not pretty (even with the nose), she can't fucking sing, she's a horrible person who blames her band for said inability to sing....I hate her.

    By Anonymous, on 12:18 PM

  • I say we all get together and hire someone to kidnap her, then send the to video to Papa Joe: "Take your whole family out of showbiz, or we'll give your daughter back HER OLD NOSE!!"
    "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"

(Sorry, Spaceballs is my favorite movie)

    By Anonymous, on 12:20 PM

  • Mindbogglingly hypocritical.
Of course, I'm not convinced she has any functional memory, or in fact any functional neurons,
so she may not remember what she looked like last month.

    Excellent Candyman reference!!
But hey man, it's five times. Don't pussy out, go the distance! ;)

    By Loob, on 12:25 PM

    By Anonymous, on 12:31 PM

  • Too bad she can't get a talent implant...her dad must have some issues-he knows Jessica is damaged goods so he's going to work on this one...always pays to have one in the bullpen when one skanks out I guess (see Ali Lohan or Jamie-Lynn Spears).

    By Anonymous, on 12:41 PM

  • wtf?! can someone please tell her that she's a steaming piece of hypocritical horseshit?

    By Anonymous, on 12:44 PM

  • it definitely looks like she had work done on her chin too... my god, she looks like a completely different person. i thought she looked better before..

    By Anonymous, on 12:45 PM

  • What is scarier, is that some young girls will actually believe this and aspire to be it. Damn shame. To all you young girls, what is truly sexy is a woman who owns herself. Who is so confident in her own skin, flawed and all, that you can't help but respect it.

    By Anonymous, on 12:58 PM

    By Anonymous, on 1:18 PM

  • Can someone please tell Ashlee her 15 minutes are up?

We get it Ashlee - you're stupid (her response to lipsynching on SNL), you're rich (plastic surgeons don't grow on trees), you're vain (see: plastic surgery), and by all accounts your long-term memory has been seared away (to say what she said to Marie Claire after JUST getting plastic surgery hints at substance abuse) - just freakin' go away already.

    By Anonymous, on 1:27 PM

  • It looks like she got a "chin-ectomy" and then they chiseled out a dimple.

I was trying to figure out which cover article referred to her. I think it's the one that says "Live with cannibals..."

    By jeditemple, on 1:35 PM

  • i mean the girl has no talent, and she got surgery, but her hair was always blonde she died it black and it looked like shit
she didnt dye her hair to look like her sister

    By Anonymous, on 1:36 PM

  • all the "cleft/chin dimple" in pic 2 says to me is that somewhere there is a marie claire photoshopper standing in the unemployment line.

    By jen, on 1:46 PM

  • In Marie Claire's defense...they probably interviewed Ashley/Ashlee/whatever months ago, had her slated for the July cover, and had the issue's theme (love your body) already picked out by the start of the year. I'm sure the editors over there are probably rolling their eyes just like the rest of us at the hypocrisy, but a deadline is a deadline and you run with the story you have.

Yes, I work for a magazine.

    By rm®, on 1:48 PM

  • What a fucking idiot. Go do young girls (and everybody else) a favor Ashlee and crawl off and die. Immediately.

    By Anonymous, on 1:59 PM

  • rm®: I also work for a magazine, and we usually have back-up stories in case something like that happened. Otherwise, where's your integrity? What if you had some story planned where a famous actress was talking about steering clear of drugs, and two weeks before your newest issue is due to hit shelves, the actress gets arrested for cocaine possession? Sorry, you just don't run with a story about "being true to yourself" featuring A. Simpson, even if she were pre-nose job.

By Oedipa Maas, on 2:02 PM

  • I HATE this BITCH...can someone PLEASE start a boycot of Marie Claire or at least send a few emails to the STUPID piece of Sh*t editor and tell them now how much we HATE Marie Claire and we're asking all our girlfriends never to buy it.

    By Anonymous, on 2:11 PM

  • Ha ha ha! Poor Asslee, she just can't catch a break, can she?

I bet she's splayed out on her bed crying into her stuffed animals, tub of ice cream and soup spoon in hand.

She must hate her sister even more now and Daddy's ignoring her again.

By officer fowler, on 2:20 PM

  • What I'm most insulted by is the fact that Marie Claire thinks this will actually fool the American public. I know we have the lions share of stupid people but this is just a collective slap in the face of the entire country. Asslee should be trying to improve her image, because it sucks. The fact that this publication chooses to feed the propaganda machine is an embarassment. Who reads Marie Claire, anyway?

    By Voracious, on 3:13 PM

  • Sounds like Marie Claire didn't feel like scrambling to redo the story after she pulled her nosejob surprise a few weeks ago. With the lead time magazines take, it was probably done a couple months ahead of when it would run.

Big fuck up on their part if you ask me. And digs Ashley's hole of hypocrisy a little deeper. Like she needs any help.

    By michellek, on 3:18 PM

  • She's a hypocritical fake bitch-cunt

    By Anonymous, on 3:36 PM

And yes, I agree: let's boycott Marie Claire. Besides, every issue seems to feature some stupid story like "What He Thinks Your Shoes Say About You" -- so no big sacrifice.

Scares me to think that this talentless, hypocritical, halfwit is rich and famous.
I feel a bit sorry for the dumb young girls who buy Asslee's BS.

  • I think too many people are making poor decisions for Ashley. Ashley is a puppet. Shame on Marie Claire for making bad choices when choosing people to grace your magazine and top cover story.

    By Anonymous, on 4:41 PM

  • Yeah, shame on the mags that continue to put this no talent on their covers. Many entertainers are hypocritical in some way but this one takes the cake. Seriously, what is her talent(s)? It's people like her, Paris Hilton and Britney Spears as well as any record labels who work that have ruined popular music.

    By Anonymous, on 8:35 PM

  • She's got zero credibilty, just like her sister. Both sellouts. Jessica used Christian rock to spring her into T&A music biz and movies just like Ashleeeeeee (however fucking many eeee's there are) used her sister's fame to blow by the fact you need talent to have a singing career. I will never purchase another Marie Claire.

    By Anonymous, on 8:42 PM

  • You know what's funny, on the cover they airbrushed her butt-chin. LOL! I just noticed that.

    By Anonymous, on 3:22 AM

  • This girl just keeps digging a really huge ditch for herself, and doing this article has just made things that more worse for her.
The public has once again caught her in another bold-faced lie, but this time it's about her face - not her band or her lack of vocal talent. This article is incredibly bothersome to me as well, because of the message that it's sending out. It's the same message that is constantly sent out in magazines like this, and the message is, "You can be confident if you get thousands of dollars worth of sugery and quit eating." I never thought self-mutilation and starvation seemed attractive, but fashion editors seem to really eat it up. *slurp* *slurp*
All in all it's one big hypocrite-fest between one of the top women's magazines, and one helluva self-absorbed no talent bitch.

And for the people here that believe that Marie Claire magazine has always preached confidence are wrong. I used to read the magazine myself, and I can honestly say that nowhere in this magazine have they ever preached "real confidence". Never once have I ever found an article in this shitty magazine preaching confidence - ever. Just like every other fashion magazine out there, the only articles I have seen in there are "how to please your man" "what your hair says to guys" "how to get a guy" "weightloss secrets of the stars", and endless ads for augmentation or reduction.
This magazine is just as hypocritical as the celebrity that they chose to interview.

Like I said, it's a big ol' hypocrite fest.

  • Thank God my daughter has no bump on her nose, how dare this pterodactyl have the nerve to become this "role model" suddenly to little girls, something her sis used to be, which by the way Jess is more credible than her because she kept her nose and she STILL is the prettier sister, whether she gets her nose tweaked or not, Asslee may have got her bump taken off but she is still UGLY and her nose is still BIG, it went from eagle's beak to pterodactyl beak!Just because Asslee got rid of her bump doesn't mean she is beautiful.

    By Anonymous, on 6:58 AM

  • uh yeah, i get what you're all saying about the hypocrisy, but i don't know why you're focusing it on ashlee simpson. marie claire has been photoshopping cover photos for years, and running bullshit stories inside about how young women should be more comfortable with their appearances. it's always been hypocritical, so i don't see why everyone is suddenly getting their panties in a knot about it. tell marie claire they've always sucked, because that's the truth.

    By Anonymous, on 7:04 AM

  • maybe she was just referring to ones body and not their face. "Buy a new face & nose & chin & lips & hair etc. if you need to like I did because i was born ugly, but you should leave your body alone." Maybe that is the message she is trying to convey?

    By Anonymous, on 8:15 AM

  • I read marie claire it has good life stories (not just fashion)that other mags lack I thought it was different from all the other ones! Pretty much all mags now are turning into crap I used to love COSMO but then it got repetive with Jessica S. and Ashlee S. being on the cover more than once! Even had Hilary Duff/Lindsay L in it why do I want to read about a 18/19 yr old? why not be on teen bop? is that still around?I'm 24 I'm done with that! who's next PARIS?YUCK If they want someone "young" and hot why not NELLY FURTADO RACHEL MCADAMS?

    By carla, on 9:15 AM

  • Does anyone else think that the cover was taken pre-nose job? She looks completely different in the other photos! Jesus, talk about hypocrisy!! Although I hate to admit, I think the new nose is better but at least she could have the guts to come out and say "I didn't like my nose, I had the means to change it so I did and I'm happy with my decision". Fine, no problem. But to bang on about people accepting themselves as they are while not even having the guts to say that you couldn't accept yourself? Pathetic and sad.

    By Anonymous, on 9:36 AM

  • From what I know, she had surgery to fix her deviated septum in her sinuses which is understandable and plenty of people have that problem. I liked her nose better before, kind of like the Jennifer Beals before her surgery. It gave her character and seperated her from the other carbon copy barbie dolls. She kind of looks "Stepford Wives" scary in that spread for Marie Claire!

    By Anonymous, on 10:03 AM

  • Isn't her hair naturally blonde? Other than that, i agree.

    By Anonymous, on 11:27 AM

  • I read in Star and the Enquirer mags that Ashlee had a nose job because she was fed up with being the ugly duckling of the family. Okay, she does look better, but she is still ugly people. Now she is denying she ever had work done, now she is trying to win her fanbase back by having free concerts and concerts that cost $4.00 a seat, now she is talking about getting implants and now she wants to lecture to little girls? Ashlee go away please, your 10 minutes is just about up!

    By Anonymous, on 12:00 PM

  • I won't argue the necessity of back up stories, oedipa, but running a story that contradicts the subject's self esteem is vastly different than running a story that contradicts the subject's sobriety. In the case of the latter, I would most certainly pull the story, or, at least, print an intro disclaimer that the interview was conducted before the occurrence of alleged events. What could also be at play with Marie Claire is an obligation to Ashley's/Ashlee's/whatever's management that she appear on the July cover (timely to an event). Welch on that deal and you could be asking for a hurtin'. Celebrities and press have a parasitic relationship, granted, but you never want to burn bridges.

    By rm®, on 1:03 PM

  • yeah whats up with that?
how can she say all that when she went out and got a nose job!?

same with mary kate olsen, shes now going to be hosting or something like that a show on how to eat healthy and lead a healthy life . wtf?!?!

    By Anonymous, on 1:39 PM

  • I'm sorry...why the fuck did she spend all that money on all these surgeries? What's the point?? She's still herself, she's still ugly and she still has no talant and is useless. She has a different nose...but so? I really don't see much change from the front and I see no change at all in her smelly ass personality. But I must agree...I actually liked her nose before, because it made her unique and I would've actually started liking her if she did that before her surgery...but now it's just like a big joke. She hates stereotypes of beauty, but changed herself so that she would fit in one? Dumb bitch. Now I hate her even more.

Reply from Marie Claire to my original letter:

Thank you for reading Marie Claire. It is never our intention to offend and please accept our apologies, if this has been the case. Again, please accept our apologies if we have offended you.

    MC

Which, of course, pissed me off.

    My submitted response:
Whilst I appreciate your attempted sentiment, I don't want your apologies. I want your responsibility to the young women who choose to read your magazine.

It is often said that if something affects "just one life" positively, then it was all worth it. I'm certain that there is more than one person in your organization who is there with the hopes of having a profound effect on your readers. If that profound effect is a negative one, for even "just one life," just how much is that life worth to you? Was it all worth it? It doesn't take much at this point to drive a young girl to eating disorders, depression, self-mutilation, or suicide, which means it is vitally important to send the CORRECT and RESPONSIBLE message the first time, all the time.

If your mission is to have any type of effect on young women, then it is your responsibility to truly consider the facts behind a story and the potential consequences of your words. Empowerment and self-acceptance should be your goals here; tell me just what "woman of the world" should believe that they should truly model their own self-acceptance after Ashlee Simpson.

If you can't take that seriously, then for God's sake, do everyone a favor (including your magazine) and simply stop proclaiming that you do and stick to the safer territory of kitten heels and matte finish. We'll all be better off.

For the record, from Hearst Corp's site for Marie Claire (http://www.hearstcorp.com/magazines/property/mag_prop_mc_2000.html):

Marie Claire leads with fashion and beauty editorial that stands apart by providing both inspiration and access. Our signature features connect with women on an emotional level as each issue speaks to the ideas, thoughts, dreams, philosophies, and aspirations of a reader who is never afraid to make intelligence a part of her wardrobe.

"I am absolutely dissapointed and upset with your choice to use Ashlee Simpson as a role model for accepting yourself.
It is a load of crap, and I hope to goodness you all can realize that.
She's altering her natural beauty and trying to become something else in order to be aceepted in Hollywood, by her agents, and the popular opinion.
I am beside myself in frusteration with the ignorance of today's society.
This is a load of hypocracy, and I really wish you could do a follow-up issue talking about REAL girls who dont slather on 45 tons of make up everyday and blast more money on a new nose than most people make in a month.
I'm sick of this. What are little girls supposed to aspire to? What is anyone suppose to aspire to?

  • I feel bad for girls like this - you know, the famous ones who are still too young to think clearly. It's even harder when you're older sister is famous, too. Think about when you were a teenager. Maybe you did drugs, maybe a friend had binges, maybe a girl in your homeroom got pregnant, maybe that kid in your fifth hour had issues living in her sister's shadow.

Those things are horribly common in every day suburbia. It must be so much harder with the pressures of not having talent and pretending you do, being loomed over by a sister who did the same and has generally gotten away with it. A lot of girls are anorexic, even more have plastic surgery, and thousands (I'm sure) abuse drugs. But we don't hear about them, except maybe if they die and they make it on the 10 O'clock news.

We hear about the famous people. I think Ashlee knows she's somewhat of a role model (if undeservedly) for younger girls. Younger girls don't notice shit like a new nose and chin - if I were a member of the 9-13 target audience, I know that wouldn't be my primary concern. Those girls don't READ Marie Claire, but their moms might. And their moms might know that Ash got a chin-and-nose job, but she also knows her daughter loves this Simpson sister. So she says, 'You know that singer you like? She says to love yourself.'

I think it is unfair to call her a bitch and whore. She's merely struggling, untalented and severely confused.

Just like the rest of us.

  • i just saw the issue of marie claire - and after the shock, anger set in, and i found this website...i can't even believe it....i actually used to like ashlee simpson..even after the lipsyncing debacle...i wrote an email to marie claire as well stating my disapproval and my loss of respect for them - and about ashlee: look - if you want to get work done to your natural body - hey, that's your decision, but stop pretending and stop the BULLSHIT - you are not in love with your natural beauty - OBVIOUSLY....and what the fuck is up with that photo spread - those girls are beautiful and ashlee looks RIDICULOUS next to them....
    ANNOYED AS FUCK

  • Perhaps she IS completely untalented in the singing department, maybe her appearence in the magazine article was OUTSTANDINGLY hypocritical, and maybe she might be a terrible role model for kids, but you have to remember...
    she's still a kid herself.
I know, I know, people think she's terrible, and while I think that the role-models for people everywhere should DEFINETLY be a LOT more grown up mentally then her, I also believe that just bashing her isn't going to do any good. I mean, come on, she's a rich socialite constantly being pressured to be as pretty and talented as her older sister!
How would you feel? People refer to her as the "ugly" sister (which I completely disagree, I thought she was pretty BEFORE her work!)and that must REALLY hurt. Pretty much everyone has been called ugly before, and you know how that feels. I can imagine, being young and constantly watched, that she might have given into the pressure.

I still believe that Marie Claire should DEFINETLY pick their role-models better though. What about Rachel McAdams or how about (gasp) a band that ACTUALLY plays an instrument! (Rap can NEVER be considered a BAND people-you can't be a band until you play an INSTRUMENT) ...but that's a different rant.

  • what a huge contridiction, I mean, I want you to ALL look in the mirror and be proud of what you see, love the way you look, that's what I aim for. I'm sure there are PLENTY of people who could fit that a little bit better then someone who gets a nose job, lip enhancements, dyes her hair bleach blonde and would strip naked at the drop of a hat just to try to prove to the world that she's sexy or something. Beauty is being unique. Getting surgery and all that doesn't make you unique, sorry. It makes you exactly like what you were trying to seperate yourself from.

  • I am truly devistatingly disappointed. To be honest I feared it was coming, first she started dressing like everyone else, then singing like everyone else, now all this? She just top the icing of her own cake by going against everything she started out to debate. Thanks for being a sheep Ash.

  • I actually like the girl, she looks a lot better since she got her nose done. I think she is prettier than her sister...

  • I know ashlee is naturally dumb. She has no talent, she is ugly, she can't sing worth shit. She can't model warth a damn. It just shows you that daddy millions cant buy talent. ashlee and jessica are both no talent losers. want a role model? how about your moms and dads. dont read those tabloid trash mags, its all lies. Join the millions of people who truly arent afraid to stop this no talent lip syncing loser and sign the petition to have ashlee dropped from her lame record company at http://www.petitiononline.com/StopAsh/

  • If she had just said 'yeah I had a nose job because it makes me happier with my looks" I would actually have more respect for her- but she tries so hard to be all for women empowerment and it is all a phony, sad, tired act. She needs to be real- we can see straight through her.

  • i belive ashlee simpson is naturaly beautiful the way she was without all the bullshit done to her face. she's done a really dumbass move on her own self. how can she go off telling the world to love yourself for who you are when she pays surgens to chop off the things she dislikes about her self. i think she needs to say what she really feels, and not be a dumb fuck and say dumb shit like "to love yourself for who you are." i don't really care anyways. im not her.

  • Ashley is only famous cuz her father and I never thought she was that attractive before but now, she looks like a made up Barbie doll. She looks like every other blonde blue eyed model out there and doesn't have anything unique about her anymore. She may regret it one day. Pat her father on the back and tell him he has done a great job with whoring his daughters out to the world.

  • Yeah, I think she is a JOKE!!! She is far from unique!!!!!

  • ASHLEE SIMPSONS sooo fake..
"Everyone is made differently, and that's what makes us beautiful and unique. I want girls to look in the mirror and feel confident."
.. UNIQUE??? trying to look like ur sisters twin its really pathetic, you used to be realy great, even the slip up at the saturday night live, that was understandible, but this, its absolutely discusting, so many pople look up to you and then you go and do that, don't say things that your gonu go and contradic.. its lame, and immature if your unhapy about the way you look go ahead and change your self, but don't say that your happy about who you are and say that ur unique cuz ur as fake as the next celebrity, you used ot be pretty now ur ugly and its discusting!!!!!

  • ITS HER FRIGGIN' NOSE! She was gorgeous before, and she's gorgeous now! Some people feel fat so they exercise and diet, some people don't like the color of their hair so they change it - unfortunately theres no chemicals or diets that can change the shape of our bones..so she had surgery for it. I say GOOD FOR HER! As for all of you people criticizing her for it - ask yourself this: If her problem had been that she was 50lbs overweight (with chubby girls all over the world idolizing her) and she dieted/excercised to lose it - would you be saying how horrible she is for not leaving her body the way it was - for turning her back on her chunky fans? Doubt it!

  • is she going to tell the truth on her "autobiography?" haha!

    ps "just, ask, herrrrrrrrrr"

    haha!
