I played Football with Ben and Joel in High School. They (like everyone else in SO.MD) went to Waldorf to shop cause there isn't anything else around. But they didn't grow up in Waldorf. Paul, Good Charlotte's under rated bass player, did. Ben and Joel grew up in La Plata (about 8 miles south of Waldorf).There is a world of difference between the two. One (La Plata) is rural with well to do families the other (Waldorf) is made up of planned communities with HUD housing in the center of the neighborhoods. I grew up in Waldorf and as a teenager loved hanging out in the HUD housing because we could hang out, drink, and smoke without worrying about any one complaining. Now that Waldorf has metor access into the neighborhoods all the TRASH from Prince George's County and D.C. can come hang out with their HUD housed cousins.

I've been living in Maryland for a long time. Waldorf isn't ghetto, but some of those southern MD cities are having problems with raising crime. It's not everywhere, but Upper Marlboro, Forest Park, and all that, etc. The closer you get to SE DC.
It's not ghetto like Baltimore though. I grew up in the ghetto in Baltimore City years ago and I live in the hood now. Everyone on my block carries a gun, everyone on my block has been to jail, and everyone on my block wouldn't have a problem going back. *That* is ghetto.

I played Football with Ben and Joel in High School. They (like everyone else in SO.MD) went to Waldorf to shop cause there isn't anything else around. But they didn't grow up in Waldorf. Paul, Good Charlotte's under rated bass player, did. Ben and Joel grew up in La Plata (about 8 miles south of Waldorf).There is a world of difference between the two. One (La Plata) is rural with well to do families the other (Waldorf) is made up of planned communities with HUD housing in the center of the neighborhoods. I grew up in Waldorf and as a teenager loved hanging out in the HUD housing because we could hang out, drink, and smoke without worrying about any one complaining.
Now that Waldorf has metor access into the neighborhoods all the TRASH from Prince George's County and D.C. can come hang out with their HUD housed cousins.

Waldorf may not be as ghetto as DC or like some places in Baltimore, but it definitely isn't a safe area anymore, like many of you may think. I definitely would not feel comfortable walking through the mall alone anymore. I know when Joel lived here it wasn't even bad at all, but it is certainly on the decline. However, compared to where Hilary probably grew up, Waldorf could definitely be considered a ghetto. It just depends on perspective mainly.

Why is everyone always saying SE in DC is ghetto. I happen to live in SE in the Hillcrest neighborhood. SE has homes that are valued at 400,000+. Some of the neighborhoods in PG county and in Charles County, I would not set foot in. I feel very safe in my 'hood. All of you probably haven't seen the outsides of your block let alone anywhere else in the area. CRIME and SHIT happens everywhere!!! Ghetto or not.

Actually I know Joel and Ben, they moved on my street for a few months, right after their first album released.
Up in Santa Clara, CA. Joel was always the quiet one, and the Ben the social/loud one.

Actually both Joel and Ben are great kids. I had the opportunity to have them come and live on my street before they made a move to LA.
Joel is a bit quiet, he won't go out of his way to say hello or anything, Ben is quite the opposite.
They lived in Santa Clara for a few months, they liked it because no one recognized and bugged them.

A wealthy part of PG and would go to Waldorf to shop. It is a joke amongst my friends and I now who live everywhere but Waldorf or PG- it sucks there, no doubt, but ghetto??? I think Ms. Duff may have shown her true colors in saying that and people, including her little boyfriend, aren't going to be "feeling that" (as we say in PG).....at all. LOL- great definitions- What is so freakin amazing and sad is that these dumbass Hollywood people make alot of $$$ but have do not have common sense. W/half of them, they quit school by age 16 but in the world of Hollywood, they are not considered drop outs. I've been living in Maryland for a long time. Waldorf isn't ghetto, but some of those southern MD cities are having problems with raising crime. It's not everywhere, but Upper Marlboro, Forest Park, and all that, etc. The closer you get to SE DC.
It's not ghetto like Baltimore though. I grew up in the ghetto in Baltimore City years ago and I live in the hood now. Everyone on my block carries a gun, everyone on my block has been to jail, and everyone on my block wouldn't have a problem going back. *That* is ghetto.

Yeah, I live in P.G County. Yeah, I'm usually the only white person when I go to the mall.
P.G has changed a LOT in the last 10 years. It used to be a somewhat rural area, but the crime from D.C has filtered down into our area. Yes, there are some very wealthy areas. (For example: the community of Woodmore, one of the wealthiest primarily black neighborhoods in the country, was written about in the book series P.G County by Connie Briscoe.) But go down the road from that and you'll see crack shacks. It's not "ghetto," but it has the crime rate of a ghetto. Just with nicer houses, that's all.
Therefore, if Duff had said Joel was from a ghetto area like P.G, I would've believed it. But Waldorf? La Plata? Pshhh.

I'm from P.G. and for one thing, Waldorf is in St. Charles County, south of P.G. (about 30-40 min away from D.C.) Second, Waldorf is a rural area that is anything but ghetto. I never thought people that successful and famous could be that slow.
