He took a lot of flack from doctors and other skeptics because he espoused clean living, healthy eating, vitamins, and plenty of exercise at a time when women were routinely encouraged to take amphetemines (diet pills) and not exercise for fear of getting "muscle-bound" or "too masculine-looking". I'm convinced Jack LaLane is largely responsible for my healthy body image and my love for sports to this day. I hope he's insanely wealthy and lives a long and healthy life.
