Jessica Alba is Hungry

    By jeditemple, on 9:41 AM

  • If she did admit to being a former anorexic, then she still is one. You don't get cured, it is like alcoholism. You can manage it, like a diabetic on insulin, but you have to be diligent and it never really goes away.

  • anon 9:48,

I sure hope you aren't some idiot who thinks anorexia is a "disease". It's a choice.

    Cancer is a disease.

Stop making excuses for people. You are just part of the problem.

    By Anonymous, on 9:54 AM

  • She doesn't look anorexic at all. I hate how gossipers constantly tag thin celebrities as anorexic. I actually have the disease, and it's kind of an insult to me.

    By Anonymous, on 9:58 AM

  • Anorexia is NOT A DISEASE!

It is a DISORDER ... a CHOICE! Cancer is a disease. You think cancer patients wouldn't make the CHOICE not to have cancer if they could? You have the CHOICE to eat!

    People are such idiots.

    By Anonymous, on 10:01 AM

  • Agreed wholeheartedly, Anon 10:01

    By Anonymous, on 10:02 AM

  • Fucking yuck. When will all of Hollywood stop with this "thin is in" bullshit! No one needs to be fat but for christs sake... she looks disgusting.

And yes anorexia is a choice... just like its a choice to order a double cheeseburger with fries when you're already 30lbs. overweight... it maybe harder for you to put down that cheesebuger if you're fat (or pick it up if you're anorexic) but it is still your choice, you just have to work harder to make the right one.

    By Anonymous, on 10:12 AM

  • Actually she looks ok. I think "anorexic" is a little harsh. She still has a ways to go before she's sickly thin like Victoria Beckham. Leave her alone...she's still a hottie.

have you ever watched a loved one or a friend wither away and die because although they may mentally understand that if they don't eat they will DIE, they still can't physically perform the act. they are dealing with psychological issues that manifest themselves in the form of eating behavior. i'm sorry if you don't understand that, but telling someone to "eat" and that they're "idiots" only further proves your ignorance on the issue.

who am i? i'm someone that's lost a mother and sister to this DISORDER and because of it i'm in my 3rd year of my PhD. sorry if i'm an idiot in your mind too.

    By Anonymous, on 10:31 AM

  • While anorexia nervosa itself is not a disease, it is the culmination of a variety of mental disorders in those that exhibit anorexic behaviour. The concept that one can just choose to not be anorexic just shows the ignorance of the condition by those that state it.

The hollywood debate about anorexia only hurts those with the actual condition as it is quite debilitating to those that have it. If all these starlets were anorexic then why do so many not show any of the other physical signs like zinc deficiency, palid complexion, lanugo hair, and reduced immune system function?

Granted, some are, and do show the other signs, at which point getting them to admit it and seek help should help others with the condition (who care about hollywood) to seek help. Calling all the girls in hollywood anorexic when they are not does not help anybody.

As well, by my count, according to the anorexic ravings, the female population in Boston would be upwards of 80% anorexic, of course, seeing these girls spend hours on the gym treadmills (etc), I tend to think they just spend as much time burning calories as eating them.

    By Steve, on 10:34 AM

  • She has slowly been getting thinner and thinner over the years. I saw her on some late-night show about 3 years ago, and she said then that being short is hard because every pound makes you look fat (as if she ever was!) So, it's no surprise that she's literally shrinking.

    She used to be hot.

Yet another cute girl who was probably told she was fat and told to lose weight.
She only looks baely passable now b/c her shoulders/arms are still pretty buff. But the rest of her.... just gross.
Damnit girl!! Get your shit together and eat!

  • If you think it looks "ok" to see all of someone's ribs AND her collarbone, you need to reevaluate your definition of "ok."

By Oedipa Maas, on 10:41 AM

  • 10:31, I couldn't care less about your PhD, but I do know that your mother and your sister made the CHOICE to die. They committed suicide which was a selfish decision. Suicide is a selfish act. Anorexia purely selfish. They chose to hurt you and all the other loved ones they left behind because they refused to make the choice to eat.

Maybe if more people would stop coddling people with these disorders, they wouldn't enable these people to continue to hurt themselves and their loved ones.

    By Anonymous, on 10:44 AM

  • all this aside, that skirt is really cute. anyone know what brand it is??

    By Anonymous, on 10:45 AM

  • Steve,

That's all pretty facinating...BUT, there is a societal component. Most of the girls in Hollywood are CHOOSING anorexia. They see other super skinny actresses and see that they are the ones who get the work.

They are choosing not to eat because they feel that controling their looks is the best way to make it big. They can't control casting, but they can control how much they eat. The thinner you are, the better chance they have at a successful career.

And as for the "signs". Teri Hatcher had signs of anorexia years ago...GREY TEETH (from acid in vomit), lanugo hair (on her forehead and arms), and an ashy complextion. She still obviously chooses not to eat enough given the way she looks again. And I bet if you look hard enough, they all have some of the signs.

The only thing we need to wise up to is how to teach young girls not admire these idiots who are CHOOSING not to eat. I don't call that "ignorance".

By d mumsie, on 10:57 AM

  • 10:31,

That is incredibly sad, but there is definitely a "selfish" component to the disorder. You'd have to admit that.

Also, why is this a disorder that affects mostly white, middle and upper middle class woman? My theory is that women of color (many of them) have bigger problems in their lives (like race, poverty, education) and can't be bothered with the selfish act of dying to look good.

Just a theory from a woman of color...

    By Anonymous, on 10:57 AM

  • 10:53, stop telling people they have a "mental illness" or "disease" when they don't. Your style of "compassion" is hurting people like this and making the problem worse. You're helping kill them when you enable them. "It's not your fault, it's anorexia's fault." Bullshit.

    By Anonymous, on 11:06 AM

  • If all these starlets were anorexic then why do so many not show any of the other physical signs like zinc deficiency, palid complexion, lanugo hair, and reduced immune system function?

because they're trying to get to that magical hollywood weight. if it was attractive to be 300 pounds in hollywood, these same actresses would be shovelling down cheeseburgers. maybe they're not as "hardcore" as other anorexics, but i consider someone who is obsessed with exercise and not eating an extra cup of yogurt to be anorexic. and lindsay lohan showed her signs of anorexia, like fainting and growing peach fuzz on her arms. i definitely think nicole richie is anorexic too. jessica alba? not as much, but she should gain a few pounds and not be so obsessed with her weight. i KNOW they're obsessed, because i can't seem to lose weight no matter how hard i try. i wonder if they're eating much at all.

Right on, 12:23. I'm convinced that anorexia only "afflicts" those who don't have any real problems in life.

  • "If you think it looks 'ok' to see all of someone's ribs AND her collarbone, you need to reevaluate your definition of 'ok.'"

Some people are naturally thin, and some women carry most of their weight in their hips and thighs, leaving the torso smaller. This is my case, and I'm certainly the furthest thing from anorexia.

I do think it's interesting that there are no people in third world countries suffering from anorexia and that it is a predominantly white female issue. Good point, 10:57.

    By Laurie, on 1:15 PM

  • I think she looks terrible. Try telling that to an anorexic, though. If you're a woman, they think you are "jealous", and trying to make them eat more, just so you won't look so "fat" by comparison. My stepdaughter is positively skeletal - has been binge eating & throwing up for years. We have tried therapy (family and her by herself), she has been on medication, she's been hospitalized for potassium deficiency a few times (seizures & the whole bit) - NOTHING will make her see what she is! My opinion: It is true that the anorexic/bulemic chooses to behave the way they do. It is also true that they are mentally ill, because they truly are unable (within the parameters of their own limited self-control) to stop their behaviors.

Serial killers choose to kill, but no one will deny that they have a screw loose in their brains, right?

Why is it so hard for people to accept that anorexic/bulemic people are sick, NOT like cancer, duh, but they are mentally sick? Why must people be so cruel, and make fun of some poor guy on this site that shared with you-all that his mother & sister died by slowly starving themselves to death?

Unless you've been there, you should just STFU....in case you think I'm defending the anorexic/bulemic lifestyle, I'm NOT! It has made my family's life a living hell...I hope it never happens to any of you, even the a-holes who are too self-righteous to admit that they might not know everything there is to know about mental health and different diseases discussed in DSM (Diagnosis of Mental Disorders).

And PS: folks in third world countries have their own set of problems. Namely, over-population, lack of sustainable farmland and corrupt governments starving the population as a means of control.

Yes. The US is a land of plenty. Then, by all counts, eating disorders shouldn't be so widespread. And yet...

  • Eating disorders tend to impact upper middle and upper class women (and occasionally males) the most--it's been associated with a need for control and perfection and meeting high expectations. The more you start out with, the more internal and societal pressure to succeed--you usually have less excuses and more benefits.

My best friend had it--she also became completely obsessed with grades, but wouldn't take the time to take a shower for a week. Every pound is still agony for her.

Eating disorders is like depression--you know what you need to do in theory, but your willpower is zilch. Controlling it is a lot easier said than done.

  • Stop making excuses for people who need to be empowered to control THEMSELVES. Whether or not they want to be healthy is up to them. They can eat if they choose to eat. It's in their control and they need to know this. As soon as you tell them anorexia has control of them, their "mental illness" has control of them, you weaken them and they believe you. They believe this invisible force which does not exist has the power.

You people who keep excusing their behavior and dumping these truckloads of pity on them are not helping them, you're hurting them. They need tough love and they need to be empowered. Don't let them believe in these mythical fucking creatures like "anorexia". Just because some asshole psychologists/preachers/doctors/psychiatrists/mental health quacks said this is some sort of "disorder" or "illness" or whatever fucking name du jour it is doesn't mean their word is golden. There are way too many sheep who don't think for themselves and that's why bullshit like anorexia makes them so much money.

I'd like to point out that many that later get diagnosed with cancer willfullly participated in activities that contributed to this. Smoking being one of them. Let's not try to use this issue as a racial stance, either. Not all "women of color" suffer from poverty, etc. Most of the people on this forum have done nothing more than exhibit their eagerness to insult others in order to further their own idiocies.

  • Jessica Alba was always way too thin for me. So she's even thinner now. Big whoop.

I think it's the more insecure (i.e. talentless, uneducated, not too bright) actresses that tend to do this. They know they haven't got what it takes in other areas so they think being super thin will solve all their problems. Even the talented ones are routinely told to loose weight by (most likely fat and greasy) producers, directors, casting dirs, whatnot, so what do you expect from the b-list stars on down?

And I'm no expert, but I would venture not eating starts out as a choice and then ends up becoming an addiction and a disorder. "Disease" just does not seem to be the right word. Alzheimer's, leprosy, AIDS; these are diseases.

  • I just would like to respond as someone who is currently trying to overcome anorexia. I understand that it is not something that is easy to understand unless you've experienced it first hand and I can sort of see where people who are naming it a choice are coming from. That said, I would like to state that saying that people who have eating disorders are selfish is a horrible thing to say, and not accurate. Not a day goes by that I don't wish that I didn't have this illness. I'm working hard to overcome it and become healthy again. I don't know how I got to be this way, it was a gradual development, all I know was that this time last year I was at a healthy weight and was one of those people who thought that anorexia would never happen to them. Anyways, I don't mean to sound preachy, but as someone who is currently dealing with this illness I felt the need to try to dispell common innaccurate assumptions about the disorder.

it's a societal thing. no one's anorexic in third world countries because everyone would rather be fat than skinny, because they lack food. here we have lots of food and fatty food, so it's fashionable to be skinny. anorexics are simply too influenced by what other people think. that's their only problem, they have no self-esteem, end of story.

  • It's odd. I have peach fuzz, yet I take vitamins and eat healthy. I can't imagine the kind of fuzz I would have if I had an eating disorder.

I guess the reason many ultra skinny celebs don't show signs of anorexia is because they take vitamins and they have other means to cover it up.

As for the third world concept that fat is good there. I was down in South America in some impoverished areas and despite living in shacks, mostly everyone there was slightly overweight, given they were really short so any amount of weight they put on is going to show up more than that of a taller person. So, from my experience, I believe that the people, at least in SA, don't put as much value on self-image because they are more concerned with surviving.

  • Why people believe that any affliction from the head down is a disease but anything amiss in the brain itself is a "disorder" is beyond me. Anorexia is as much about food and weight loss as rape is about sex. I'm aghast at the comments about anorexia being a "choice" and "selfish". It's because of people like you that there's a stigma on mental illness in the first place. It's *so* easy to say that it's a choice and completely within someone's power to change it when you've never walked in their shoes. Here's an idea: before pretending to know about such issues, do a little research first. Idiots.

    By Anonymous, on 5:54 AM

    By Anonymous, on 6:20 AM

  • Anorexia is not a choice, it's a mental disorder. Nor is it about weight or being fat or thin. It is about an attempt to exercise control over one's life.

I know those of you who have labeled anorexia a "selfish choice" think you are very idealistic and enlightened. However, to those of us with some factual knowledge about the subject, you sound supremely ignorant.

    By Anonymous, on 1:56 PM

  • The real problem is the term "anorexic" being used too readily to discribe a stupid bitch that wants to be skinnier that all the other stupid bitches. I don't want to get into this extemely futile and out of place debate, but whether it's a choice or not Jessica Alba and most of the others aren't "anorexic" - their just image obsessed. They excersise like mad, they are all about the exterior. The fucked up shit that celebrities do can't really be compared to normal people. They are self absorbed and competitive, thin is in, so the outcome is Jessica Alba is way to skinny. She doesn't have a fucking disease or a disorder.

    By Jess, on 4:38 PM

  • She's not anorexic, but clearly has lost too much weight and looks gaunt. Anorexia *is* a real and serious mental disorder. These Hollywood starlets are not anorexic, they just have an unhealthy obsession with being thin and *choose to deny themselves food* to attain a certain ideal. That is much different than an anorexic. Trust me- I spent 5 years of my life as an anorexic and still deal with the struggle everyday. It generally stems from a need to control your surroundings and also depression - NOT because you're a b-list celebrity who thinks being thin would get you a better movie role.

    By Anonymous, on 8:52 PM

  • HI EVERYONE!

Hey, first thing - I don't believe that anyone if their right state of mind could choose to die (and this includes anorexia). I think that people who starve themselves are trying to gain control over their life, and see this as a way of showing they are in control. But these people don't understand how they are hurting themselves (and the people around them) in the process.

There is also no clear-cut 'start' and 'end' to anorexia. Some people are more prone to it than others. If you are prone to it, and the right factors are there, then you'll gradually start counting the calories - and end up throwing up 10 times a day. Anorexics loose complete control of themselves, and loose all sense of 'reality'. So i don't think it's a choice to be anorexic. Is it a choice to be thin (which may then lead to being anorexic)? Maybe. But you've got to be goddamn strong and self-confident to be strong in a world that promotes thiness. And given that you don't choose to be strong or self-confident (you are taught), than I don't think it's really a choice to want to be thin.

These Hollywood girls - remember half of them are on coke, or something else. That makes you skinny, and doesn't mean you're anorexic. Those who snap in and out of it (weight loss and gain) are prob. not anorexic either - just extreme diet tests. Curing an anorexic takes YEARS.

  • Oh my, I can't believe that anorexia is now ‘in fact' a disease. I don't care if you're on the way to earning a Phd (Anon,05/10:31) its obviously not in anything related to the physical sciences so its really not relevant. Just because some activists got together and managed to fit it in into the little box of diseases doesn't mean you can compare it to those that are naturally occurring. Its a damn habit, sure a really hard one to break after a while, but it is a choice. Excusing the behaviour does not help.

I'm quite sick of people's total arrogance. Sure, call it a disease if you want, that really does change what it is...

  • I really understand the people who don't know much about anorexia and might think it is a choice but, for the people that do have it, it is NOT a choice. I have anorexia. I'm pretty thin right now but not skeletal-I take care of myself now-at my worst I weighed about 95 and am 5"7-so u can imagine how disturbing that must have been for my family, however not for me- I never noticed it! I thought I looked great and could even lose 5 more. Yep. I am sick. It is NOT a DISEASE--but it IS a mental ilness. For one, I don't trust myself in terms of what I see in the mirror anymore because I definitely have a skewed idea of me. I cant help it. It's like a phobia that I am fat even though I'm not. I even thought people were messing with the scales to make fat! Everytime someone tried to make me eat I thought they were trying to make me fat, I thought something was wrong with THEM! So I guess in the end it is a choice in SOME ways. Like I have to literally FORCE myself to eat sometimes even though my mind says not to and automatically starts counting everything on the plate. I can definitely make that choice just like the alcoholic doesn't take that first drink and calls their sponsor, as soon as I start noticing that im doing the same patterns, I HAVE to call my ED couselor and tell her whats going with me, if I start losing weight again, if I over exercise weigh myself too often etc. I can't, however choose to see the reflection in my mirror as I really am and as everyone else sees me-I honestly can't. I can't choose to not be anorexic because I've always been like that. Even as a child I had the tendencies and I had the classic perfectionist obssesive compulsive persona. My point is, while you cant choose to not be anorexic, you can choose to get help and treat it and learn to live with it so you won't end up killing yourself.

  • common people it's not because jessic alba's slim and gorgeous that she's anorexic, all the celerities are slim, it doesn't mean a thing (thank god because many more girls would be), people with anorexia have to be helped because they think their doing themselves some good, they want to controlsomething in their lives.

  • i can say that anorexia is not TOTALLY a choise bc the causes are not only mental but also phsical. at some point of dieting ( not even hard dieting ) your brain does change its mentality and it WORKS anorexic. the hormones and all. but yes, a lil of it is a choise, the rest, no. and also, it has to do with genetics too.
can you blame a person for having schizophrenia?no bc he or she has the genes for it and also the brain works that way.
dont be so had on ppl.
its not fair to compare anorexia with cancer. ofcourse cancer patients do not have any other choice. but that doesnt mean that a mental disease cant be too harsh either.
i have an anorexic daughter and she is anorxic since she is 9 and for 8 years, it haf been hell on eart for all of the family. but no she is trying her best but sometimes even the best cant be good enough...
so dont jude anorexics like that pls.

  • Anorexia appears in Asia also, and it's much more serious than USA. In my country, there are tv programs that told you to put off weight every night. Advertisements on public transport are all about put off weight. Fat is almost like a sin in here. And all the clothings in the mall are size 0. Girls as young as 12 years old suffer from anrexia, cuz they are brainwashed by the idea that thin is beautiful.

  • These pictures almost made me cry. I know, stupid, but I used to really like her. I would be so flattered when anybody said I resembled her, which happened every so often. Well, they said, I looked a little like her except I was pale and a little thinner with worse skin. I'm not any of those things anymore! Except pale haha. But this makes me sad. I wish I could still look up to her.

Oh and to the asian person, I think asians are actually smaller anyway. I mean, a lot of asian girls I know are naturally like size 0, as well as being 4'9. Even if they aren't that short, they do have smaller bone structures. Just mentioning it.

  • oh my god,
Jessica Alba is not anorexic! She is fit and eats right. Stop baggin her and bag someone like Nicole Richie who IS the anorexic shape .... just get over it. Jessica Alba is beautiful and doesn't even have to try - she has an amazing figure and yes it does take work to be in such great shape.... so stop winging you jealous people and realise that this girl does eat right and gets off her butt to exercise.

  • shes not anorexic shes just a skeleton with acne LOL!
I HATE this cum bucket. She’s a bitch.
One of those women that think that their shit doesn’t stink?
A head the size of a small planetoid?
    What has she done?
Dick. ( except suck it for her roles in all her crappy films )
Not ONE starring role to speak of
AND DON’T GIVE ME THAT “SHE’S YOUNG! SHE’S NEW TO GETTING ROLES!”
What happened? She can’t reapply her lipstick any quicker?
Name one, uno, f**king movie that she’s been in that has had you exit the motherf**king theater saying “good job, Jessica.”

DO NOT mention that she’s hot.

Catherine Zeta Jones is hot. (Oscar winner)
Reese WItherspoon is hot. ( Oscar winner)

    Wanna know the difference?

    JESSICA ALBA CAN’T F**KING ACT!

Am I saying she gets these parts because of her looks?
    How do you spell “obvious”?!
instead of growing as bitch, maybe she should growing the f**k up first.
    lol even better!
I’ve mentioned my hatred of her in a couple of previous posts, but somehow hating Jessica Alba has been a recent hobby on my part.

She’s a triple threat: an ugly, mean spirited, talentless “actress” who wouldn’t even have a career outside of Hollywood if people didn’t think she was hot, and she’s overexposed to boot.

I fail to see what’s so good about her, looks or talentwise. Being hot (which she is NOT, imo) is totally irrelevant if you can’t act worth shit, such is the case on her part. I’ve seen her horrid turns in the following films:
Idle Hands - First movie I’ve seen her in, and she couldn’t be a more perfect example of the type of actress who would go on to become famous for anything OTHER than her non-existent talent.
Sin City - I think I hated her more in this film than anything else I’ve seen her in, it just makes me angry to know how much better the ‘That Yellow Bastard’ section would’ve been if someone else had been cast in the role of Nancy. She was totally incompetent, giving an overall lifeless, wooden performance, delivering her lines most of the time without a hint of emotion (like how she is with EVERY one of her roles). But it was even more cringe inducing when she tried to emote (the overly sweet innocence that she disgustingly projects, the horrible smile plastered on her face at all times, etc).
Fantastic Four - Yet another crapper, but she had horrible lines to work with so I’ll cut her just a little bit of slack.
Those movies aside, I couldn’t even finish the trainwreck that is Honey, and I also hated what I saw of ‘Dark Angel’.
She’s done what, 4 to 5 unimpressive movies and a forgettable TV series that requires her to do nothing more than be ‘kickass’ and she already considers herself a ’star’? Her whole diva attitude is offputting, WHAT right does she have to BE a ‘diva’, where’s the talent to back it up and where’s the star quality? I certainly don’t see it in Alba. Zero talent, awful movies (except Sin City, but she was by far the worst thing about it), a lack of charisma (yeah, yeah, people like her because of her face & body, but is that really enough for someone to achieve star status?besides, theres NOTHING special about her body whatsoever), etc. There is absolutely NOTHING worthy about her.
My advice: Take acting lessons, grow the fuck up and strip away the ‘holier-than-thou’ attitude or you can just shove your bullshit fame, money, ugly publicity stills up your ass for all I care.
So, yeah, to summarize, I HATE Jessica Alba! Hate hate hate hate hate her. Hate her. Hate that fact she continually gets roles based solely on her looks, hate the fact she acts like a fucking prima donna when she doesn’t have even have the abilities to back up her little diva attitude, hate the way she delivers her lines, hate the fact that her lack of range and emotions could STILL get her recognition from critics and audiences alike, etc. etc. etc.
There are plenty of young actresses these days with a sufficient amount of both talent and looks, namely Scarlett Johansson, Rachel McAdams, Reese Witherspoon, and Natalie Portman. Alba could learn a thing or two from them.
