Superman Returns Wasn't That Gay

  • I loved it. I was glad it wasn't a let down.

  • Nice crusty sweat stains in the last pic.

    Blech.

  • Someone please make Kate Bosworth eat and digest her food properly. If I can see the outline of your rib cage between your breasts, you need stop binging and purging ASAP.

  • Kate Bosworth needs to eat a sack full of White Castle/Krystals

I do not see her as Lois Lane. I think Anne Hathaway would have been better suited.

  • is she dropping her cell phone in this pics? what is that in the second one?

  • Blaming it on gay rumors is total bullshit! Brandon Routh as a total unknown, looked rather plastic and there was not enough pre-publicity to establish curiosity. I think while picking Kevin Spacey wasn't necessarily a bad idea, He's been absent from the big screen long enuf for people to not feel very excited about seeing him play a bad guy. When Gene Hackman played Lex, he was grinding out a film a week (LOL) and his identity was pretty well established. For him to play Lex was a novelty people looked forward to seeing. And he had a solid fan base. And then there's the ghost of Christopher Reeves, which quite frankly, still haunts this role. I think that maybe people just aren't as excited about Superman as they used to be. I mean, clearly Spiderman has the pre-eminence for the past few years. Even Batman could have told Brian Singer not to bother. I think this Superman "has legs." For fans of the genre, this one will be around for a long time bcz it's well done and a more modern version. But not totally surprised it didn't do as well as expected. Tell me. Which summer blockbuster has done as well as expected: MI3? Poseidon? The only one that will do fairly well is Pirates. And that will not be as good as the first. Except, Johnny Depp changes the math for everything, so maybe he should have played Superman and Tim Burton could have directed.

You are out of your mind. I'll give you two reasons why Tim Burton is an idiot with remakes:

    (1) Planet of the Apes
    (2) Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Tim Burton ruins every remake that he touches.

  • Superman is such a dated concept. I'd rather watch paint dry for three hours.

  • So what is half the cast and crew are gay? Half of Hollywood are gay!

Fuck everyone, i'm going to watch it and enjoy it.

  • it was an awesome movie. very well made, well acted, and flawless cgi. i'm not sure why so many people are tainted against it but it really is worth seeing. i thought bosworth was good, as were spacey, posey and routh. plus routh has had a gf for 2 1/2 years so i don't understand all of the gay talk.

and to the person who suggested burton... look, i like burton too but that is not the movie for him. really, did you see his proposed character treatments? if not check out the a&e special on superman and they have his illustrations. superman looks like edward scissorhands with mad max tubes coming off of him. it would have been a visual mess.

  • I agree with some of the analysis that "Anon July 05, 2006 11:17 AM" that blaming the showing on gay issues is off-point

I think the movie opening would have been bigger if:
    1) There was more and better advertising and marketing;
    2) There were more interviews with the cast before the movie premiered;
    3) Another "name actor" besides Kevin Spacey was in a supporting role

Re: advertising and marketing, there could have been a tie-in to another product or service to reach more people (like Mastercard or McDonald's). Or they should have done some stunts like MI-3 did when they had Tom Cruise running all around Manhattan.

Re: cast appeareance/interviews. there needed to be more of them and some compelling personal story about their personal life so an audience could bond with them

I will see the movie eventually but wasn't compelled to see it opening week/weekend.

  • i loved this movie even though kate bosworth was not that great as lois and lex luthor was not used very much and the plot surrounding his character was not that well formed or believable. I still liked the special effects and Brandon Routh and the gay rumors/comments are unnecessary.

  • Any guy who wears bright red underwear, as opposed to some nice rusty burgundy from American Eagle or such, is definitely gay, or making a statement on how they are "NOT EMO BUT PUNK ROCK AND YOU CAN TELL BY THE WAY THEY DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK UNTIL THEY GET IN THE BATHROOM WITH THE RAZOR"

    By Anonymous, on 7:25 PM

  • That movie sucked. Not enough action and too corny. And it was too much like the first one. Obviously word of mouth wasn't strong like it was for X3!!! We don't need Moulin Rouge 2!!!

  • Hey, you hadn't blogged in days; was concerned; hope all's well.

And Superman was a gospel story retold (father-son, resurrection, the BVM, the tons of prayers he hears from on high, etc.) I liked Mel's version better, but that's me.

Really enjoyed the movie, thought Bosworth glowed, but what's with this starvation look among these actresses? These freakin' women must eat!

  • "Any guy who wears bright red underwear...is definitely gay..."

That doesn't make him gay, it makes him a lucha libre wrestler. A word of advice: make sure you ask for your movie by name at the box office. Don't make the same mistake I did and ask to see the one about the guy who dresses in tights with his underwear on the outside, or you'll end up in Nacho Libre instead of Superman Returns.

  • Another nasty anorexic chick...great...she's like Fatty McFatty in black...purge bitch purge!

    By Anonymous, on 9:01 AM

  • ever see Kate in Blue Crush? absolutely drop dead gorgeous. but then she has to go all anorexic on us. I just want to feed her a couple burgers and make her hot again.

    By Andy, on 8:30 PM

  • that was a horrible let down, i really felt cheated. routh is nothing more than a cristopher reeve lookalike who cant act to save his life. i really wanted superman to die and be reincarnated as someone else.
bosworth did alright, spacey didnt really have a chance to shine, the whole script was way too lame, no "real" enemy (using kryptonite is a cop out), nothing that could really pose a threat to superman, one on one.
just a horrible waste of 2hrs that i'll never get back. pirates was not as good as the first one, but i did laugh, and i did give a shit about captain jack sparrow.
the critics got this one wrong big time. you can try to make a movie more artsy fartsy but NOT at the expense of entertainment cause then you have a critically acclaimed movie that nobody watches. i dont think superman 2 will do as well as pirates 2 did.
