Angelina Jolie Has a Tan

  • her best line in the movie is, "like everyone in our dog-eat-dog world, the terrorists are just trying to get ahead"

  • Get a head? Are you kidding me?
That, and she looks like ass.

    By CK1, on 12:00 PM

  • ah minnie! funny funny shit

    By Anonymous, on 12:50 PM

  • why did they try to make her tan? I know that the real marianne is of mixed racial decent and all, but blowie just looks all orangey like posh spice or somethin.

    By Anonymous, on 12:50 PM

  • Damn, I thought that was Halle Berry for a second...

    By Anonymous, on 12:55 PM

  • LOL!! Wow. I will say that I am glad that the producers are at least playing Marianne the biracial woman she is, because Marianne is obviously mixed with black. When AJ was cast, I thought they were "whiting out" the black part of Marianne. AJ does look awfully Soul Man though. And a tad bit like Thandie Newton in Beloved.

    By Anonymous, on 1:04 PM

  • what a joke! Mariane Pearl is black! why couldn't they find a black woman in hollywood to play her? so sick of this chick!

    By Dan, on 1:18 PM

  • Uh, Thandie Newton, shit even annoying Halle Barry...she BLACK okay?

    By Anonymous, on 1:22 PM

  • Uh, Thandie Newton, dare I say it even the talentless Halle Barry I'm sure would have been available. Pearl is BLACK. Adopting a rainbow does not qualify.

    By BroncoRose, on 1:24 PM

  • Yo yo yo YO YO YO!!!!!
What the fuck is this, Al Jolson?! Y'all are some racist muthafuckas up in here. What, just because Angelina Jolie's lips look like a pair of suitcase handles, she gets to play a black woman, huh?
What, they didn't want to hire a Nubian queen? Didn't want to put money into the black community? Bullshit, man..
Fuck Angelina. Look at her nostrils. You can't even fit a baseball in them. She's whiter than Marilyn Manson's sperm, you muthafuckas.
They should have hired the girl who played Rudy on The Cosby Show. Or any of the Huxtible women.

By Blingy Washington, on 1:36 PM

  • Agreed, I'd rather see an actual, biracial or black looking woman in the role. But I just meant I am glad they aren't having AJ looking like regular old white AJ. They at least made a nod to the fact that Marianne is half black by having AJ tan and put on a kinky curls wig.

  • this bitch is trying to look like halle berry

    By prettyboy, on 2:09 PM

  • ^ No, she's "trying" to look like Mariane Pearl, you idiot.

    By Anonymous, on 2:15 PM

  • Mariane Pearl is half Cuban, half French. Obviously, she is Afro-Cuban, and it would have been nice to see a woman of color play the part. I would like to mention that Angelina Jolie's lips are bigger than Mariane Pearls. LMAO!

    By Anonymous, on 2:24 PM

  • I'm glad they actually got a good actress to play the part instead of worrying about pleasing you politically correct idiots. That's all they need is some annoying bitch like Rosie Perez ruining the movie. I know Rosie is Puerto Rican. They're all the same loud, annoying women to me.

    By Anonymous, on 2:26 PM

  • the movie is based on a book mariane pearl wrote about events in her life. she's involved in the production and has said she's delighted that AJ is playing her in the movie. but maybe she's been brainwashed by years of racism. thank god people are speaking for her.

    By Anonymous, on 2:35 PM

  • This chick's husband was stupid and selfish for going over there. He had a wife and a child and knew there was a good chance he'd die if he went there. That doesn't make her or him any sort of hero. I really don't see the point of making a movie about them.

    By Anonymous, on 2:41 PM

  • ^ Yeah, there's already a movie. You can watch him get his head cut off for free on the Internet.

    By Anonymous, on 2:42 PM

  • For a minute there, I thought this was a movie about a white guy trying to get into Harvard.

    Ha ha ha ha! Pwn3d!

    By Anonymous, on 2:49 PM

  • but you'd miss the line in the movie where she says "he always used to complain that i wouldn't give him head"

    By Anonymous, on 2:54 PM

  • gimme a break - if mariane pearl was forced to watch halle berry play her in the movie, halfway through she'd cut her own head off

    By Anonymous, on 3:08 PM

  • whitney houston should have played her. i mean, i didn't know daniel pearl's wife was black, but if that's true, then who better than a crackhead to play her? i assume they're going for realism.

    By Anonymous, on 3:20 PM

  • What's with all the racist and insensitive scumbags?

    By Anonymous, on 3:48 PM

  • Daniel Pearl's Halloween costume was easy that year. He went as "The Headless Horseman."

    Mariane Pearl was the horse.

    By Anonymous, on 4:04 PM

  • for all you saying that "they" should have hired "a black woman", "Thandie Newton", "Halle Berry" or "a woman of color".

"They" in this case is producer Brad Pitt, so it's not like he had a choice for lead female.

Anyway, after they show this piece of shit at a few film festivals, I think the only distributor they'll find is Lifetime Television

    By Smartie, on 5:31 PM

  • That's Godfrey Cambridge, people.

    By Anonymous, on 5:47 PM

  • Damn they really made her look like shit for this one. Someone's gonna pay for this one (and I think it might be Brad!), so Mariane Pearl is supposed to be black huh? I'm not going to ask the obvious question, cause I know the answer to that as well (and I think it might be Brad's fault!)

    By Anonymous, on 7:20 PM

  • couldnt they have gotten a black actress. no offense to angelina i think shes talented and all but their are so many struggling black actresses in hollywood that could of gotten the part.

    By Anonymous, on 7:32 PM

  • Wow, if you saw her on the street there's a chance that you would walk right by and not realize that it's Angelina Jolie. Interesting.

  • October 10, 2006 7:32 PM -

She's not even 100% black. Stop trying to claim her. We already won her in the Racial Draft when she married Daniel Pearl.

    L'chaim!

By jewish person, on 8:10 PM

  • Anyone who makes a reference to Soul Man is alright in my book. The paintjob on her is horrible though. She looks like an orange person who went to the hair shop and purchased a wet n' wavy.

    By Anonymous, on 8:39 PM

  • give them a break, it's a difficult project. Mariane Pearl was asked point-blank during an interview with Larry King who she wanted to play her in the movie, and she got flustered and said she didn't want to cause controversy. then he asked who she thought her husband would have wanted in the role, and she said he was stumped.

    By Anonymous, on 8:40 PM

  • forget the controversy. the movie is inspirational. it's about a guy who believed in a cause, and wasn't afraid to stick his neck out for it.

    By Anonymous, on 9:41 PM

  • a white guy trying to get into harvard would disguise himself as an asian

    By Anonymous, on 9:43 PM

  • THE ONE THING I THINK THAT EVERYONE IS MISSING HERE, SHE IS SCREWING THE PRODUCER. HE IS SO WHIPPED HE WOULD HAVE PUT HER TO STAR IN THE REAL LIFE STORY OF ROSA PARKS, CORETTA SCOTT KING. HE IS WHIPPED, AND STUPID. I HOPE NAACP DON'T LET THIS FLY AT THE MOVIES. ALSO, BRAD PITT, BLACK FACE DON'T WIN IN 2006.

    By Anonymous, on 9:50 PM

  • if i recall correctly, when he died she was pregnant. so she was pregnant with a baby that would never know his father. maybe she is black.

    By Anonymous, on 9:51 PM

  • i read that mariane pearl has become very upset over this whole "controversy" since it's her story (her book) and she's happy with jolie portraying her. she doesn't know why people are getting so angry and why they're implying that she isn't free to make her own choices. she said she understands that this type of thing is a very sensitive topic in america, given hollywood's history, but it's nothing to lose your head over.

    By Anonymous, on 9:54 PM

  • brad pitt was overheard saying that he thought this was by far the most important movie he's ever been involved with, and he cast angelina because he didn't want audiences drowning out key lines by shouting at the screen.

    By Anonymous, on 9:57 PM

  • Why is everyone trippin off Angie playing this part? She's a damn fine actress. So what she's a white girl...this photo of her looks JUST like the woman she is protraying. Furthermore, it was Marianne Pearl's wish that she be portrayed by Angelina. And even further...there IS NO black actress except maybe Halle (and I'm sick of seeing her in EVRYTHING) who could play this part...and I'm saying this as a black female.

  • One question: Is Denzel Washington going to portray Daniel Pearl?

    By Anonymous, on 10:19 AM

  • i would pay to see denzel get his head cut off, right in the middle of one of his ridiculous speeches

    By Anonymous, on 10:43 AM

  • 1) she looks nothing like marianne pearl;
    2) Thandi Newton and Carmen Ejogo and *gasp* a bajillion other struggling black actresses could play her
    3) as a black woman who worked in the industry for years i'm irritated, yeah
    4) i don't care that marianne is said to have "wished" it . . . she probably realized, as everyone else does, that hollywood would make brad's movie. So put Brad in it . . . but cast a black woman to play marianne.

it's really not all that difficult to do the right thing and make money.

By mocha mayhem, on 11:24 AM

  • This Pearl bitch was half white/half black, right? Then what difference does it make if the actress is black or white.
Jeez... nobody is entitled to the role.
    It's Hollywood, not Howard University.

    By Anonymous, on 11:42 AM

  • well lets have P.Diddy play Jamed Dean in an umcoming biopic then. And angie cant act either. However, I'm sure the movie will make tons of money cuz of the whole jen/brad/angie fiasco.

By alex kozlov, on 12:44 PM

  • man this is retarded.

mariane pearl is not "african-american" she's not even eligible for that draft.

raised in paris (that's in france, not the US). french citizen. international journalist (like her late husband, that's how they met). also book author, and producer of an award-winning scientific documentary series on issues involving genetic technology. moved to NYC just a few years ago, speaks english with a hispanic (nyc) accent, as it's her third language after spanish and french. cuban (mixed african and spanish) mom who moved family to paris, dutch (jewish) dad. clearly identified with cuban-hispanic culture, due to her mom's influence (dad was a depressive who suicided when she was 9).

she couldn't care less about the outcry to have an AA woman play her in the movie. why should she? it has absolutely nothing to do with her life or her movie. if she cared about race or ethnicity for casting, she would have insisted on a hispanic woman. obviously she cares more about the movie itself than about american racial tokenism.

    By Anonymous, on 1:20 PM

  • i agree with the poster who said whats up with all the racist and hating stuff. jeezus the dude was brutally murdered it is NOT something to joke about. Re: aj- either cast a woman of color, or use aj as is, but the whole blackface thing is embarrassing and offensive

    By Anonymous, on 1:37 PM

  • I thought they were finally filming a documentary surrounding the civil rights opus, "Black Like Me"......

Either that or AJ is on her way to a Whoopi Goldberg roast.

    By Anonymous, on 4:30 PM

  • Maybe she was on her way to a Whoopi Goldberg roast?

I'm SO TIRED of her "save the world" crap, with her gazillions of dollars and helping like 2 people by fucking "rescuing" them to come be raised by one of her hired nannies. Puhlease, nigga. *zzzzz* Will a REAL humanitarian please step up to the plate? Someone who doesn't french her brother and wear blood around her neck, then expect to be taken seriously as a world leader? Sorry, had to vent.

    By Anonymous, on 4:35 PM

  • 4:35 PM -

Real humanitarians toil in desolation and anonymity. World famous Hwood actors barely know what it means to be human, much less how to help humans. They need help themselves.

  • This discussion thread was both funny as hell and more than a tad disturbing. I was either laughing out loud or grimacing at the comments from the few cats whose remarks barely kept a lid on the racism. As for the issue and how I felt as an African-American reading it, many people on both sides have a point. Ms. Pearl is clearly not of northern European extraction. But she is also clearly not a full-blooded Yoruba princess, either. Finding a great actress with the precise racial balance wouldn't be easy. An earlier posting mentioned Thandie Newton and/or Carmen Ejogo - those are two excellent choices. A bi-racial Afro-Latina actress like Rosie would look the part as well, but Sister Rosie isn't very good at leaving the Bronx behind in her roles. When she isn't totally pale and her hair super-straight, the bi-racial Jennifer Beals could also play the role. So could Lonette McKee (of Jungle Fever, a couple of Richard Pryor films, etc), who, come to think of it, actually looks the most like her. So in closing, yeah, they could've/should've/would've picked a person of color or a very dark (read: Mediterranean/Roma/Spaniard a la Rosario Flores) woman to play her. But like another post said, Hollywood's going to make the movie IT wants, not the most accurate or honest one. I'd prefer a woman with the requisite appearance and background, but if it must be Angelina Jolie, I just hope she doesn't break out trying to dance guaguanco or cook sancocho, while singing "Mammy" or the female Cuban equivalent "Fever" by La Lupe. Remember, as good as X was, in real life Malcolm was a lot lighter than Denzel - looking more like Larry Fishburne - but Denzel still turned in a great performance, as Larry would have as well, I'm sure.

By DJ Orejon, on 10:15 PM

  • Whoa. What a joke. If they want to cast her in the role, just play it straight. Don't paint her face and put on the Afro wig -- it's so insulting. Seriously, what if she were playing someone part Asian? Would she tape her eyes? Hollywood is so ridiculous. I do hope this movie tanks.

    By Anonymous, on 11:45 PM

  • I wonder how everyone would react if they had a black woman playing a white women would yall feel the same? Or how about a black women playing a Vietnamese girl, or how about we get AJ to play Dorthy Dandridge. I cannot believe how lazy people are nowadays to just accept everything that comes theirway. Oh well AJ she can play a biracial girl its alright. Right how about I as a black girl play Anne Frank would that be alright and if not yall some hypocrites.

By Lucy Alms, on 11:37 AM

  • Im biracial and part black. I have played white roles in plays and indie movies before and noone has had a problem with it. I dont think its bad if someone plays another race, but I do think its silly that they gave her a tan lol...
Lots of people think Im caucasian and other people think Im asian or other.. it shouldnt matter.

Angelina Jolie has done more for Africa than most people bitching her out for taking this part. Im not saying that entitles her to play a person of mixed race but atleast shes not like all these stupid actresses that dont care about other countries and like to live their lives through rose colored glasses. Angelina is a humanitarian and a beautiful person. I think its awesome that a gorgeous white chick cares about my country and adopts beautiful children from all over the world.

My family is from all over the world and we have dealt with people calling us names because we passed for many things but I hope Angelina opens up the doors for other actresses of color to be able to play latina roles or caucasian or asian or vice versa.
