Michael Richards Has an Apology
Three days after he called two black hecklers "niggers" during a performance at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles on Friday night, Michael ("Cosmo Kramer") Richards appeared on Letterman last night via satellite to issue an apology at the urging of Jerry Seinfeld, who was a scheduled guest. Richards says:
For me to be at a comedy club and flip out and say this crap, I'm deeply, deeply sorry. I'm not a racist. That's what's so insane about this.
What's also insane is apologizing for being a racist then referring to black people as "blacks" and "Afro-Americans." Instead of saying this on TV, he should have said this while walking down the steps of the plantation in a white linen suit and sipping on some iced tea.
If you haven't seen the video of the actual incident yet, here it is.

You are allowed to be a bigot. There is no law against it - just remember that you do have to put up with the consequences. Running out immediately after a rant like this and apologizing seems so hypocritical... if you want to be an ass, be an ass. Don't apologize because others hate you for it.
By Anonymous, on 9:43 AM
As I watched a couple of syndicated episodes of Seinfeld last night I couldn't help but picture 'the rant' every time Kramer came onscreen.
Richards fucked up. He fucked up LARRRRGE.
If he was wiser, he would've said he was drunk, gone to rehab, and released a statement from rehab.
You know, the Hollywood standard to contrive forgiveness from the public. *rolls eyes*

Now that's just in poor taste isn't it?
By Anonymous, on 9:45 AM
Well, he played a spastic freakazoid on TV for like 10-years...a Method actor or director maybe would not be that surprised.
But the real problem is he never had any stand-up experience.
Dealing with hecklers and stuff like that that comes up in a live show is an art form, they tell me...it's not like walking on a set with pre-ordained lines and the director and everyone else kissing your butt for, like, five takes or however many times it takes to get it right.
By Zen Wizard, on 9:48 AM
He just said what most people want to say to loud ass black people in public. He shouldn't have apologized. They asked for it and were just as bad when they called him "cracker". Two wrongs don't make a right.
By Anonymous, on 9:48 AM
How many times do black people go onstage and make racist remarks??? ALL THE TIME!! What the fuck? Double standard of course! Oh ya, for now on I want to be called a european american. Give me a fucking break!! So what, he lost his cool. The guy walking out calls Kramer a cracker!! I guess he's a racist as well. Where's his apology? Kramer should have said, shut the fuck up, period!
By chuggdog, on 9:48 AM
He should be grilled in the media just as heavily as Mel Gibson!
By Anonymous, on 9:52 AM
I'm not saying what he did was right, but the way white people have been talked about at black comedy shows is horrid. And um, not to mention how rappers talk about white people and cops in music, and it's "ok" for them to do it. I say, if something is racist, it's racist, across the board, for all races. But if it's ok for the goose but not for the gander, the that's fucked up.
By Anonymous, on 9:55 AM
I noticed that people are forgetting that the "black" people walking out call him a cracker ass mother fucker,a white mother fucker, then they threaten him. Okay, so now were even, period!
By chuggdog, on 9:58 AM
I'm white, but I can understand the difference between people making fun of themselves and making fun of those not like you. Pay attention...if you're fat and you make fat jokes it's different than someone thin making fat jokes. It's not "the way it is" because of a double-standard, it's logic. Jeff Foxworthy making fun of rednecks is a lot different than you going into a bar in Alabama and making the same jokes, using the same terms. An Italian guy making mafia jokes is not the same as a Autralian guy. It's that simple.
By Anonymous, on 10:00 AM
Cracker is a much less derogatory term than the "n" word. The "n" word was used in order to demean a specific race specifically for the purpose of emotional abuse. It is never ok to use racial slander, even when one loses their cool. Making remarks in reference to ones race and making derogatory remarks are two different things. Black comedy that uses white insinuations is never negative or offensive, if you really review the content. If most people would like to use the "n" word to reference African Americans, then they are using racial slurs that are unacceptable, period.
By Anonymous, on 10:01 AM
Ok, what is really said about white people in jokes, raps, and other parodies? White people are smart, they are anal, they are scared of other races, some of them are ignorant towards other races and cultures, and are not sensitive to differences between people. They'll cross the street if your another race and they think you'll rob and/or harm them. Some of them speak very proper, and are confused by slang. And your comparing this to the use of the "n" word and derogatory rants? Please.
By Anonymous, on 10:06 AM
Going on David Letterman the very night that everyone in the world was seeing the video rant for the first time was WAY too soon. Way too fresh still. No doubt it was instigated by those that want the latest Seinfeld dvd release to be a massive monetary success. And Letterman was NOT the place for such a serious topic, it was awkward, people were still laughing thinking it was just 3 funny men having fun I guess. You are making things worse "Kramer", get the help you so obviously need.

Some Cubans are black. Some are hispanic and some are white. Andy Garcia is not a black guy.
By Anonymous, on 10:19 AM
He's just saying what the rest of us are thinking. I agree that the blacks have been using racist comments for years on their comedy tours and in public. So, it's okay for them to do it, but a white comedian can't use it? Bah! It's just another case of reverse-racism.
I can't tell you how many times a black person has called me a white mother f_cker or called my wife a stupid white b_tch. And oh yes, they still use the word honkey behind our backs. I have several black friends and they tell me that they still use that word and cracker.
EVERYBODY uses racial slander. It's just that everyone can use them openly, except for white folks. If a white person uses them, it's all over the networks. If Martin Lawrence says that he wants to hang all of the white mother f_ckers in America and f_ck their white women, it's called comedy.

career suicide? was it still alive to begin with?
his career ended the day seinfield went off the air.
btw, no matter how biggoted and racist and stereotypic i am (and i am, trust me, i am) i'll never feel quite comfortable saying the things richards said like that. I actually felt sorry for him. in a society like this, those thoughts should not be expressed towards strangers, even if the crutch was stand-up comedy. have some class have some dignity, and talk behind people's back. he's pretty much pissing in the same stream he's drinking out of.
i guess there'll be no soup for him.
By Anonymous, on 10:35 AM
I'm sorry, but what is a honkey? A white person of southern decent. A cracker? A white person. There is no negative connotation that goes with these words. White people used the "n" word throughout history to control black people. What does the "n" connotate to? Ignorant, stupid, lazy. This term references all black people regardless of whether or not the are educated, or even originated from this country(like hispanic blacks or West Indians). IT WILL NEVER BE OK FOR ANYONE OTHER THAN A BLACK PERSON TO USE THE "N" WORD. PERIOD! Maybe when white people are no longer the majority race, maybe they will understand what it means to be oppressed by the misuse of a word.
By Anonymous, on 10:35 AM
YOU KNOW WHATS RACIST? All the black people being overpaid in professional sports and in endorsements. There is so much hate and racism in America but don't bother me when I'm cashing my multi-million dollar check. White people are the minority in overpaid sports. It's all racism..
hahahaha
By Anonymous, on 10:35 AM
Why would you put up with anyone, regardless of race, calling your wife a bitch? Weird.
He lost his cool and yelled at hecklers. Maybe he's a racist; maybe he was just high as shit. Most comedians know how to deal with hecklers. But instead of working them into his act like talented comics he had a complete meltdown. Pathetic. He wasn't telling jokes he was yelling at people in the audience because he's bad at his job which is, ostensibly, telling jokes. The irony.
By Anonymous, on 10:36 AM
it's all about dishing it out and not being able to take it isn't it? shit all over whites but don't slam colours. some people can take a joke. what happened here was not funny. sometimes you have to laugh and walk away. as for what everybodys DEAD relatives did to each other before we were even born? LET IT GO this crap has dragged on way too long
By Anonymous, on 10:37 AM
I'm sorry, but can you reference this in a history book at least "spare me" before you call someone a simpleton? Ohh, harsh, that kinda hurt!
By Anonymous, on 10:38 AM
I think it's clear that he was as surprised by his own behaviour as the audience was, and he's still coming to grips with his own demons. How many of us have those words in our hearts and minds and try to deny them? All of us. It's a battle in our world, in ourselves. I think it was a humble move to admit he was mistaken about himself and a challenge to the rest of us. How can you judge someone who does that?
By Anonymous, on 10:39 AM
Right, except the athletes paychecks are coming from WHITE PEOPLE. It's not their fault that White Man Can't Jump, lol.
By Anonymous, on 10:39 AM

By Anonymous, on 10:42 AM
Well, obviously racism is still an issue, and not about dead relatives. Racism has occured not only in the past, but in current times as well. The Civil rights movement was not that long ago. You can't force equality. Racism and sterotyping is a learned behavior, so if people keep facilitating it, it will drag on. Just look at the treatment of the legal and illegal immigrants from Central America.
By Anonymous, on 10:42 AM
That's obviously an opinion, and not fact. What next, asians are the smartest race?
By Anonymous, on 10:43 AM
Watch. Now some dumb "Afro Americans" will beat the shit out of Kramer in a back alley somewhere and then shoot him dead. Then they'll claim they were justified because he called some assholes "niggers" before. Then they'll end up in prison with the rest of their friends and family where they belong.
By Anonymous, on 10:44 AM
@ 10:42 a.m. - FUCK illegal immigrants. They deserve to get treated the way they do. They cheated and broke laws to get into our country. They get free healthcare, free food, free room and board while law abiding citizens get next to nothing and can't even afford healthcare for themselves and their children. Fuck them.
By Anonymous, on 10:49 AM
See, Kramer wasn't racist, he just reacted without thinking. The last two people to comment, however, are obviously racist. Those two idiots actually wrote down what they were thihnking, and thought it was intelligent enough to publish. Brava.
By Anonymous, on 10:53 AM
Wanting illegal immigrants out of our country is not "racist". Saying "fuck them" is not racist. Illegal immigrants are that - ILLEGAL. They are breaking the laws of our country and they are not citizens. There's nothing wrong with wanting law breakers punished and/or out of our country.
By Anonymous, on 10:57 AM
No stand-up comedian deserves to be heckled, no matter how bad they are. If you don't like it, demand your money back at the box office, don't ruin everybody's night by being some loud-mouthed smart-ass.
Like Chris Rock pointed out so long ago there's a difference between black people and niggers, and those guys were being niggers. With plantation days hundreds of years in the past the word doesn't mean what it used to. Nowadays it's more akin to calling someone a shitty little gutter thug, and I think it was totally appropriate here.
"Fee fie fo figger, I hates me a nigger!" - Chris Rock
By Anonymous, on 10:57 AM
"IT WILL NEVER BE OK FOR ANYONE OTHER THAN A BLACK PERSON TO USE THE "N" WORD. PERIOD!"
Maybe black people shouldn't use it either, you fucking idiot. Maybe if NOBODY EVER used it then it would seem more like a real transgression. After all if it's OK for 50 Cent to call himself a nigger, why can't I? Why can't anyone? But if NOBODY used the word, then it might have some power.
It's just like gay people calling eachother "faggots" - if you're going to use the word then you've got to expect that other people will too. Ever since blacks "reclaimed" the word "nigger" I hear white people using it more than I ever did before.
By Anonymous, on 11:02 AM
Nope, wrong. It's never appropriate, there is no situation where it's ok. It's barely appropriate for black people to use the term. IT's derogatory, plain and simple. And the term wan't just used duing plantatino times, It is not a term of endearment, it's just wrong. Out of all the curse words that could've been said, he chose a word that refers to race. And really, if he sucked, he sucked, That's what being a stand-up comedian is all about.
By Anonymous, on 11:04 AM
What ever happen to FREEDOME OF SPEECH?????????? why can he and any other person say NIGGER, they can say HONKEY and PECKERWOOD on tv all day long and no one supposed to get mad ,I hear on tv SPIC , CRACKER, CHINK,GOOK, GREASEBALL, on regular tv not cable and no one ever says hey thats racist but when the word NIGGER is said the shit hits the fan , fuck anyone who gets offended by the word NIGGER if you don't like that word then don't use it yourself untill blacks stop using that word the rest of the world won't stop using the word either so deal darky
By Anonymous, on 11:06 AM
Well, people in the south who aren't racist have reclaimed the confederate flag, but it still stand for what it always stood for. I mean, I guess if your not black, you can't understand the negative effect the word can have on you.
By Anonymous, on 11:07 AM
Being a stand up comedian is one of the most difficult entertainment jobs out there. I'd like to see those fucking morons try to stand up in front of an audience and try to make them laugh. Hecklers are dicks. We didn't even get to hear these guys heckling Richards. They were probably non-stop loudmouths during his whole set. "Cheap motherfuckers" sitting in the cheap seats, too.
By Anonymous, on 11:08 AM
It's not "the 'n word,'" it's "nigger." Jesus. You can refer to the term directly without people thinking you're warming up the ovens.
By UserZed, on 11:08 AM
Now if only Marsellus Wallace could show up outside the club as Richards is leaving -
"What now? Let me tell you what now. I'm gonna call a coupla hard, pipe-hittin' niggers, who'll go to work on the homes here with a pair of pliers and a blow torch. You hear me talkin', hillbilly boy? I ain't through with you by a damn sight. I'm gonna get medieval on your ass."
By Anonymous, on 11:10 AM
hey this nigger-cracker argument could go on forever. And i dont take that to heart because when people have nothing better to say they go to nigger/cracker... but the really offensive moment of pure disgust was the "Fifty years ago we'd have you upside down with a f***ing fork up your ass."
now i personally haven't herd a comedian go this far with ANYTHING and its pure hate.

the majority of posters here are just proof of how racist most white people still are. "reverse racism"? THAT term is racist! racism is racism. give me a break, white people don't like being called out by minorities--they aren't offended by the term "cracker" or "honkey"---they just pretend like they are so they can have an excuse to act like a victim. yeah, white people have it SO much harder than minorites. give me a friggin' break! anyone who says that is full of shit and they know it.

It's completely ridiculous to equate the N-word and "cracker" because white people are most certainly in the position of power in this country, so of course the N-word is going to carry more of a negative connotation. When white people are being seriously oppressed by black people, then we can talk about how saying "cracker" is that bad.

10:57's dopey remark is one that I've heard and read in the years since Chris Rock did that routine, but of course it's just a cover for racist nonsense. And I don't think Chris Rock is racist against other blacks, so it really doesn't apply to him, but it applies to others: People who say that really think of ALL blacks as niggers, except for a couple that they like and deem "not niggers, but black people". Or else why would you categorize any blacks that way in the first place?

By Anonymous, on 11:52 AM
Both words ("cracker" and "nigger") are designed to slur the person. They have the EXACT same purpose. Period. Same as "wop", "spick" "mick" and a dozen other slurs
The only difference -- the ONLY one -- is in effect. But the effect is in the mind of the listener. A black person can call me "cracker" all day and I'll know he trying to slur me as much as i would be if I called him "nigger". The only difference is, I don't give a damn what he thinks about me. So it has zero effect. Now all he has to do is not give a damn what I think about him and then where's the problem? But no, if he's like most people, he'd prefer to be offended. That way he can look like a debate winner without ever having to debate
Such a stupid argument. People all up in arms about labels. The only way a label can affect you negatively is if you actually believe the negative meaning it's suppose to carry. And if you do, God help you, you have far bigger self esteem problems than can be helped.
People are such primitive fools. The only way this world is ever going to work is if we can all call each other every hateful name in the book and not have anything come of it. Once everyone stops reacting to all this crap, once the haters see it has no effect, they'll have no reason to keep using the language.
Good luck ever seeing that happen. People are too happy to be offended. They NEED to be offended
By Anonymous, on 11:54 AM
What's wrong with calling black people 'blacks'? I hate this PC crap that's going on in this country. White people get called 'whites'. I'm never called irish American or European american. Whatever.
By Tim, on 11:58 AM
I get the feeling that Richards was using his Kramer routine a bit in the beginning which is why there were laughs coming out. You can see a clear distinction of Richards the person and Richards as Kramer.
So being that he was pulling out that routine makes me believe he was not being geniune and rather seeking sympathy or a "oh god please dont let my career get worse than it is now" plea.
Similar to Seinfeld aiding this friend he loves so subsequent DVD's or current DVD's out of Seinfeld episodes dont completely fall into the grocery store $5.99 bin.
By Anonymous, on 11:58 AM
He can't even be compared to black comedians who make fun of white people in their acts because THIS WASN'T PART OF HIS ACT. He used that word not to provoke laughter, but to insult and offend these people. if Chris Rock STOPPED HIS ACT to call a white person in the audience a cracker, or any other derogatory name for white people, THAT would be comprable to what Richards did. I haven't seen ANYTHING from a black comedian that compares to what I saw in that video.
By Anonymous, on 12:00 PM
What Richards did isn't even remotely the same thing as a black comedian making fun of white people because this wasn't PART OF HIS ROUTINE. He STOPPED HIS ACT to fire an extremely hateful and inflammatory term at a person in the audience. That wasn't Richards the comedian, that was Richards the PERSON. If Chris Rock were to stop his act to spend several minutes straight berating white people in the audience, that would be comprable. I've never seen ANY black comedian do anything like what I just saw in that video.

Its insulting not matter who says it and it stupid that black people don't get as much heat and this guy did. I have seen nasty, horrible things said by black comedians which I find demeaning to their own race but its "OKAY", because they are black.
That is just plain retarded. So if MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. had said it, would that still be "OKAY"????

Of course for me this has nothing to do freedom of speech - Richards, or anybody, can stand on the corner and shout this type of crap all day for all I care. But whoever's spewing it ought to be prepared for the consequences, such as not being able to get a job, and being shunned by the public.

How the hell is "honkey" not demeaning? As an intelligent white female, I can very clearly assertain that the word "honkey" makes me feel like lower than low, the same as, I would imagine, the n-word makes a black person feel when used by anyone not of the same race. Please don't over-simplify and allow yourself to become blinded by your prejudice. Until you are in the same shoes as someone else, you have no right to make blanket statements that are false.
By g3kogur1, on 1:06 PM

no honey, 'honkey' is not a synonym for 'nigger'. Go outside and play, cause daddy wants to slap you right now.

Nuh uh, Caveman baby. I'm hanging on to my two cents. It's far more entertaining to watch all the honkeys and cracker-ass whiteys debate with the negroes in cyberspace.
By Vigilante, on 1:19 PM
The guy spoke out in anger and spoke his truth. He was not making a joke, which i would find acceptable he was making racist comments. I dont know if he is a racist and i dont really care. The point of the matter is that he made deliberately bigoted statements about black people in general, instead of focusing them on the heckler. Frankly i appreciate it more now, when i know when someone thinks this way i can avoid them or their shows in the future.
And if anyone thinks that a uneducated black urban rapper or comedian making comments about white people is the same as this Richards guy you are delusional. A rich educated person should know better than to do it in such a public forum/at all. When was the last time a cracker or a honkey someones slave or got lynched in a tree with a pitchfork in his behind?
Lastly not to get anyones panties in a knot but to give black people their due they only got the right to vote etc. in the 1960s. Can any rational person think that 40 years of affirmative action can change 300 years of oppression, Jewish people are still getting their pound of flesh for five years of the Holocaust.

White people weren't persecuted, insulted and belittled in the past...black people were, and the word "nigger" was commonly used during those horrific times. It reminds them of history.
By Anonymous, on 1:38 PM
I played college football on a team with mostly black players and can say from MY EXPERIENCE, blacks hate whites just as much as the reverse is true. I was hazed, called cracker, whitey, honkey, etc,. However, I tend to agree with anonymous 11:54 in that I really didn't care what they thought of me. They were ignorant and made judgments because they were themselves acting racist. The saddest part for me was when I, or another white player attempted to fraternize with a black player. It was the other black "teammates" who would "Uncle Tom" him and embarass or haze so any attempt at a relationship was futile. I've seen both sides, albeit sparingly and racism is racism, no matter what color you are.
Please save the "now you know what it's like to be a black man in AmeriKKKa" posts. I just did it for you.
By beedubb, on 1:41 PM
Ahem.
I would like to nominate several cracker-ass whiteys to be divided up and divvied out to all the people in the world who feel that a pound of flesh is their due.
1. Kevin Federline. They can't even GIVE his tickets away. I have a feeling he won't be missed.
2. Paris Hilton. And everyone who gets a pound of Paris gets a free lifetime supply of penicillin!
3. Brandon Davis. Lots to go around there.
4. Lindsay Lohan. Comes pre-sliced.
5. Pete Doherty. So high he wouldn't notice anyways.
Wait, there's more...I'll get back to you after dinner.

1:38 - Bullshit. BOTH sides of my family were white (legal) immigrants to America and were poor as shit. They were belittled and verbally and physically abused by the rich people they worked for and those rich people were not only "white" people, either. None of them bitched and complained about their situations. They worked their asses off so they could give my parents good educations so they could make something of themselves in America.
By Anonymous, on 1:47 PM
Lots of ethnic groups have been belittled, verbally & physically abused by the rich. Nobody else seems to want to milk it the way some blacks do. I grew up in the deep south and "nigger" was frequently used. Still is. If you're black and you're not a nigger, it shouldn't bother you for a spade to be called a spade. If you are a nigger, well that's your problem - not whitey's.
By Anonymous, on 1:59 PM
so what if he called him cracker? he was just trying to get back at him for calling him nigger.
maybe the black dude was being a jerk heckler, we don't know because we don't have the video, but that's not a good reason to insult AN ENTIRE RACE. incredible how many closet racists have come out because of this.
By Anonymous, on 2:04 PM
I'm a white person who went to a high school school which was about 98% black and I was tormented daily by a lot of them. Not a day went by where I wasn't harassed by several black students. I grew up as poor as them and in the same neighborhood as them but that never stopped them from bullying me, calling me racist names like "cracker" and "honky" and chasing me home trying to kick my ass. I was a fast runner. Thank God for the track team.

I can understand why everyone has been signing on as anonymous; either you don't want us to know who is writing such ignorant comments or your just too impatient to fill in all the info. requested to be a blogger, like me ! So many peoples comments have been about reverse racism and saying that know one should be allowed to be racist. I totally agree with this point, everyone should completely stop using language that contains racial slurs against any race. So many of you have made this point and then turn around and make a racist comment about African Americans to end your post. We all need to stop being hypocrites, stop being so damn hateful, and show some respect for people who are different from us. It’s one thing to make a hurtful comment by mistake; for example, if you are foreign and heard someone use the “N” word and kept repeating it because you didn’t understand what it meant. But all Americans know what that word and other slurs mean, how to use them and who to use them against. I think discussing issues like this are important, but have some class and show a little intellect.
P.S. By the postings I really can’t tell what age group writes in; are you adults, college kids or high schoolstudents? This technically should make a difference in the types of responses you post.
By Anonymous, on 2:07 PM
Two wrongs don't make a right. If those hecklers were genuinely offended by "racism" then they should have shut the fuck up rather than calling him "cracker" and threatening him. They're just as bad as he was.

To anonymous "BULLSHIT: Both Sides" et al:
Not to belittle the struggle of the Irish, the Italians, Eastern Europeans, Asians and Africans etc.. but there is no comparison between them and the struggle of so called homespun African Americans. You try being bred to be strong and have endurance but in the same instance ignorant for 200 years and see how you turn out. Look at dogs kept on a leash for a long time, what do they do? (they lash out). The situation in the states and elsewhere took 100drs of years to develop and it wont change over night (in 40 years). It is definitely not helped by ignorant people on either side instigating further hatred. Also, ask your family what they thought about people under them on the food change. Class-ism is not necessarily racism.
Ethnic groups from all over the world came to the US in the 20th Century and flourished but they came by choice and in the case of "white" (i use that term loosely) immigrants, they had more rights from the onset than others of different ethnicities.
That being said racism is the disease of the ignorant and uneducated, it is not something endemic to one race or culture (the rich can also be ignorant). Using the word nigger is derogatory and shows more your insecurity and ignorance than superiority. They are a million words to disparage people in anger without succumbing to a very racially taboo word.
Lastly blacks do not milk 'it' anymore than the Jews, the Latinos, the whites (i didnt get into the college i wanted it must be Affirmitave Action), the gays, the republicans/democrats etc... everyone at some point has tried to use the "system" to their advantage.
By Anonymous, on 2:38 PM
There's nothing wrong with the word 'blacks'.
-'No, no, no, you're not blacks, you're African-Americans'.
(pause)
-'We're Sudanese'.
As for the rating of racial insults, you can't be too dogmatic about such things. What an insult means to the insulter and what it means to the insultee varies from person to person and from moment to moment. Cracker, nigger, gringo, frog, kraut etc. are each, used as an insult, a denial of a person's individuality and an attempt to lessen their humanity and I find them all pretty offensive.
By Anonymous, on 2:40 PM
People who are easlily offended should be at church or at home reading Christian books - not watching comedy shows or reading gossip blogs. I'm offended that you're offended.
By Anonymous, on 2:46 PM
One comment that stood out in this whole debate that I just can't let slide: technically, everyone's had the right to vote since the passage of the 14th Amendment in the Reconstruction era. Whether that was always followed... well hell, it's still not.
If the definition given for the "n-word" is taken as a given, then, yes, "honky" means EXACTLY the same thing. It was a term created by upper class Americans to refer to recent immigrants from central or eastern Europe. Short for "bohunk," it has connotations of laziness, extreme stupidity, and a certain degree of shiftiness. Just like "mick". No one liked the Irish until they got into politics. At my college, this one politician held up as an example by the Vietnamese Students Alliance turned out to have tried to disenfranchise the Hispanic voters in his district - this after a very small portion of the group tried to boycott the school paper for some slight that no one else, even the other Asian kids, noticed. My point is this: I don't think anyone is capable of being completely free of prejudice, therefore, every group hates and is hated. it's innate in human society to distrust those who are different. the trick is trying not to let it get the best of you, i guess.
By Anonymous, on 2:48 PM
why cant we all get along and stop this hate? we should concentrate our hate on those that deserve it...Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Simpson and Co.
By Anonymous, on 3:13 PM
I could care less if the blacks hate my ancestors for keeping their ancestors as slaves. But for Christ sake, I have never kept a slave. My ancestors never gave me any money or property, period, much less anything derived from slavery.
Dear Blacks,
Hate rich white people. Not all of us.
Sincerely,
Most white folks.

If you don't act like one, Kramer wont call you one.
He should have called them assholes or dickheads, but he chose "nigger". Same difference if you ask me.
By Anonymous, on 3:16 PM
Cubans are Latinos, they can be black, white, or even look Asian due to Native American ancestry.
Michael Richards is not white. He's jewish..
By Anonymous, on 3:51 PM
The truth is, I didn't even know Kramer's real name before all of this. This may be the best thing to have happened to his career in the past 10 years. Publicity stunt? I mean look at how many magazine covers they gave Mel.

omfg.
first off, there is no such thing as "reverse" racism, as if racism focused on white people isn't true racism. that's the most ignorant term ever devised and i will be so happy the day when we have the balls to call things what they are.
secondly, i am SICK of hearing all these "oh waaaa you try dealing with 300 years of oppression blah blah blah."
there is no one here who has been anyone's slave. no one has been lynched. and i honestly hope no one has been beaten because of their skin color. alot of black people are being "oppressed" because they choose to be. i went to high school with hundreds of black kids who were PROUD that they were failing their classes, being disrespectful to teachers, and being overall useless human beings. they were upholding the "culture". the black kids who did well in school and tried to make something of themselves were treated horribly by those black classmates, like they were doing something so wrong by trying to amount to more than a future of food stamps, ghettos, and bitterness. it was sickening.
what michael said was unnecessary, but it's hard to be too angry at a guy who insults a group of people who insult themselves.
By Anonymous, on 4:05 PM
first off, there is no such thing as "reverse racism", as if only racism that comes from white people is true racism. that is ignorant bullshit and i cannot wait until people have the balls to call things what they are.
secondly, I am SICK of hearing that "oooh you try overcoming 300 years of slavery blah blah blah..."
seriously, spare me. no one here has been a slave. no one has been lynched. and i sincerely hope no one has been beaten because of their skin color. you know what black people have to "overcome" now?? themselves. their own damn culture.
i went to high school with hundreds of black students who were PROUD that they were failing their classes, getting free lunch, and defying their teachers. those black students who did work hard were completely rejected, because they were "acting white". they were disrespected because they wanted more for themselves than a life of ghettos and bitterness, and it was sickening to watch.
what richards said was unnecessary, but i personally find it hard to condemn a man for disrespecting a group of people who take pride in disrespecting themselves.
i'm sure that things are different up north, but here in the South that is people feel. it's sad. most white people down here are not "ignorant racists" like the stereotype goes, but if you could see how much blatant hatred comes from the black "community" towards white people because of their self-imposed economic status, you might understand why people get so angry.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A church that wanted to do something special for Hurricane Katrina victims gave a $75,000 house, free and clear, to a couple who said they were left homeless by the storm. But the couple turned around and sold the place without ever moving in, and went back to New Orleans.

Suppose you take the typical Hollywoodian approach. Almost none of them live in the real world plane. They develop a Holier than thou mindset. Our laws don't apply. Our morals don't apply. Our ethics don't apply.
Now suppose Michael doesn't get his way on stage. So he reacts the way a child or teenager might when a parent doesn't give them their way. They think of the worst thing they could possibly say..."I hate you" or "I wish you were dead" etc. etc. And they don't really mean it-but at the time it is the most viscious thing that they blurt out in an attempt to express their feelings. I don't condone what Michael did by any stretch, but I can see the Hollywoodian Mindset take over, and he blurts out the most hateful thing he could think of. Because face it, they're use to getting everything their way. Unfortunately it was way over the line, which wishing the hecklers were dead may have been better to say, lee hateful in a sense.
The line has been drawn and crossed, another bit of innocence and simplicity lost. I wish he could have taken it back as well because this world was a bit easier to deal with before that.

"White people weren't persecuted, insulted and belittled in the past...black people were, and the word "nigger" was commonly used during those horrific times. It reminds them of history.
1:38 PM"
Are you kidding me? Read up on your history man, everyone has been persecuted at one time or another, not just blacks. If you're only talking abou U.S. history then you're right, but a lot happened before that. The Romans, Greeks, and later the English all had a hand in enslaving other European people and countries.
By Tim, on 4:34 PM
Bottom line....if the idiots in the audience hadn't been acting like niggers, they wouldn't have been called niggers.

Why is it that you can form "African-student club" and "Asian student club" in schools and universities but it's all over the news when white students want to form a similar "caucasian student club" and they aren't allowed to do it in the end and are called racists...
By Anonymous, on 4:59 PM
by the way white men can jump, the triple jump world record is held by white guy Jonathan Edwards and he is way ahead of second best (who happens to be a black guy)
By Anonymous, on 5:12 PM
oh yeah, no one is ever racist towards white people.....right try living in LA. There is so much hate here directed at white people.
oh, and I felt Michael was incredibly wrong in what he said, and I do think he is racist for saying it.

I think the fact that a single word has the power to offend so many people is completely ridiculous.
It's just a word, get over it.
The same with all alleged slurs and stereotypes...they're just letters strung together. That's it. Period.

there is a "caucasian club". it's called the KKK.
white people don't always have the same culture in common. they can be irish, polish, german, slavic, english. there'd be no problem having a "polish student club" but you can't lump all white people together...just like you can't lump all black people (for the most part) together. blacks can be from the carribean or south america, not just africa.
By Anonymous, on 7:15 PM
who the fck cares who is the best jumpers are.. hes a comedian aren't comedians supposed to deal with hecklers isnt that part of the job. this isnt about who is better or what race is superior its about disrespect. there is a often blurred line between free speech and idiotic ignorance. Americans should learn to distinguish that line clearly. what he did was wrong, it wasnt ballsy or cute, it was stupid. the remarks he made were kinda funny but really sad "if it were 50 yrs ago i'd have you hanging with a pitchfork up your ass" umh i think that is disgusting, i cant believe he would try to make fun of a naasty part of history which makes him sound like a barbaric savage.
By Anonymous, on 7:20 PM
I would support Michael Richards for President. About time someone had the balls to call it like it is.
By Anonymous, on 7:43 PM
Interesting aside:
There's been talk about a blind item posted (last year?) by GossipRocks: "This white actor appeared on a long running TV series. This sitcom is one of the most successful shows in television history. This actor was given his own show
when the series was cancelled. The show lasted a few seasons; his career took an nose-dive and never recovered. This actor has a secret; he has an intense hatred for African-Americans. So much so, he makes donations to white supremacist
websites. He also has a reputation for being a lousy lover, his nickname in Hollywood is: ‘The one minute man.’"
There's been speculation that this is Michael Richards. If you read it, the actor's own show lasted for a few seasons. Strike that; MR's show lasted less than a season. But Matt Leblanc would fit the bill.

But then I saw the video and was like HOLY CRAP!!! What the eff was this guy on when he said that!? I have to agree, it was very uncalled for and caused me to lose all respect for my beloved Kramer. He proved to be an ignorant pig and I really felt for the poor guy who was arguing with Mike. You could see he was trying to keep his cool until he called him cracker, which was more than understandable.
What Mike did was very uncool.

"everyone's had the right to vote since the passage of the 14th Amendment in the Reconstruction era." What is that a straw-man or a red herring? Dont be foolish in the 19th century black Americans were barely done being slaves, far less having the ability to vote. What is the point of bringing up an amendment and criticizing my argument, if the 14th wasnt enforced until the 1960s.
"black communities' self-imposed economic status, you might understand why people get so angry." -- Firstly people in the south do live in a different world than the north. This was in largely part due to segregation (which in some forms still exists) and a pervasive attitude that blacks are lower than low. Secondly what sort of culture do blacks Americans have? Its not truly African, so it must be a mix of their experiences over the last 200 years (slavery + european). The experience simplified is being second class citizens living in the ghettos and having the worst education government money cant buy. While it is true that they are segments of the blac
