Well, probably because poverty in the US is relative compared to the rest of the world. Not that we don't have extremely poor people here, because we do, but at least our poor have places to turn to for help. The poorest person in the US is probably living large compared to the average refugee in Darfur.

People that keep complaining about why Brad and Angelina do not concentrate on the homeless of the U.S. need to understand that being homeless in the U.S. is a picnic compared to being homeless in a developing country. This is not to say that homelessness in the U.S. is a problem--something simplistic minds will jump to---it simple indicates that the U.S. is a muh safer place for people to be homeless, than other countries. In other countries there is a high likliness of death by drinking unsuitable water, soldiers, animals among many many other hazards. I have worked with the homeless both in the US. and in other countries and if I were to say who has it harder--it would be other countries. And we need to stop this separtism of Americans versus the rest of the world that George Bush has created. We live in the same world and need to think that way. Thanks Angelina and Brad for recognizing that the plight of human beings anywhere is a threat to everyone--whether these idiots realize it ot not.

The whole point of Jolie and Pitt visiting these places IS the publicity. The problems in the world are not that there isn't enough money to deal with them. The problem is that too many people don't know about the issues that Jolie draws attention to. So it's way better for her to give her time and create publicity about things that we all can try to do something about then to give money or time secretly.

Okay fine, they are good people. BUT I still don't have to like them. And I still think that Bill and Melinda Gates (who give away MUCH more $$$ who are MUCH more involved in grass roots work with the worlds most impoverished) paint a far more intelligent and humble picture than Brangelina. Meh. I have friends that do the same thing, and I'll tell you a secret: most of them do it because they like to travel, they like warm weather, and they don't want to have a job.
That is why they will do humanitarian work in equatorial countries with lots of coastline, but not in Detroit or New Jersey.

i can stay in a $5,000/night hotel
i can fly everywhere in a private jet
i can zip in/out of airports w/out standing in lines, etc. like regular people
i can travel in limos everywhere i go
i can have my own chef so i don't worry about montezuma's revenge
i can have my own entourage of security minders who keep "the little people" away from me
i'm fawned over and treated like royalty when i grace these orphanages, etc. w/my presence

Well, probably because poverty in the US is relative compared to the rest of the world. Not that we don't have extremely poor people here, because we do, but at least our poor have places to turn to for help. The poorest person in the US is probably living large compared to the average refugee in Darfur.
Now, I really wish everyone would stop their fucking bitching. I mean, who gives a shit why they feel compelled to devote themselves to humanitarian causes, the point is that they do. People that keep complaining about why Brad and Angelina do not concentrate on the homeless of the U.S. need to understand that being homeless in the U.S. is a picnic compared to being homeless in a developing country. This is not to say that homelessness in the U.S. is a problem--something simplistic minds will jump to---it simple indicates that the U.S. is a muh safer place for people to be homeless, than other countries. In other countries there is a high likliness of death by drinking unsuitable water, soldiers, animals among many many other hazards. I have worked with the homeless both in the US. and in other countries and if I were to say who has it harder--it would be other countries. And we need to stop this separtism of Americans versus the rest of the world that George Bush has created. We live in the same world and need to think that way. Thanks Angelina and Brad for recognizing that the plight of human beings anywhere is a threat to everyone--whether these idiots realize it ot not.
