I don't think David Beckham being the most recognizable athlete is far from the truth. He might not be very famous in the states, but if you travel around the world you'll see pictures and posters of him (and Ronaldinho, tue FC Barcelona player) even in the smallest towns. He's big in Europe, in Asia and Africa for sure. I never thought he was so big until I went to Africa and Asia.
