That long-winded, completely unnatural statement is no doubt the product of 90+ minutes, six publicists/handlers, and a thesaurus.
Just once I would like one celeb to release a statement that doesn't drip of insincerity and verbal choreography.
Is he sorry he called the dude a 'faggot' or that the general public found out about it (ie: he got caught)??
Apology or not, my gay brother doesn't watch the show anymore. Seriously. (I've never seen the show, so I have no idea why there is so much damn hype surrounding it. Hype is great for short-term success, but as for staying power...well, just ask those kids on The O.C....hahaha)
I'd love to see how this asshole would have reacted if one of the cast called him a "nigger." Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson and the entire goddamn cult of the Nation of Islam would have stormed the ABC headquarters and demanded the guy's head on a platter.
He may have written that himself. On the translation site babelfish.altavista.com, there's a new option, "Ebonics-to-Standard English" and that's probably what he used.
How come whenever a famous (or in this case pseudo-famous) black person is caught up in a "controversy" someone brings up the names Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton?
How many white people actually believe these two (especially Jackson) hold any sway in the so-called "Black Community".
During the whole Rosie-Trump war I never read or heard anyone say, "its time for [insert name of supposed leader of the "white community" here] to get involved and organize a rally".
For one, yes his english is that good. I've heard him speak publicly many times and he sounds just like that. Second, the man apologized and I'm sure he has some making up to do to T.R. As far as I am concerned this shit is between the two of them to resolve. A man should be allowed to make a mistake and then rectify it and make amends. Enough already. God bless T.R. if the worst thing that happens in his life is someone calling him a "faggot".
Anon @12:56 AM is right - had it been a racial slur, all hell would have broken loose. "Faggot" is still somewhat accepted and used casually (right or wrong) - maybe this is the beginning of the "f" word movement.
That's b/c the "white community" doesn't have a "supposed leader." Nor does the "white community" have an organization for only caucasians...that would just be "racist." Unless the KKK counts, which it doesn't, b/c the KKK is not representative of the entire white race; nor does it claim to be.
14 minutes and 59 seconds for him I'm afraid. This is a desperate man, I agree the only thing he could have done more injurious to his fleeting career was to slander the jews. Too bad for him, not very smart.
wow, his publicist is lazy. michael richards should demand royalties "he is examining deep in his soul, wants to meet with leaders of the community to see where the hate stems from, blah blah" or would it be mel gibson's publicist who should feel ripped off?
I thought that this ass; Isaiah Washington should have been fired when he started a fight on the set months ago. He is horrible person and NOT a professional in anyway. He took a nice night and ruined it. His Mel Gibson type apology had the same sincerity.
I agree, with Anon 12:56. If T.R. had called Washington the "n" word, then Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would have had their faces on every freaking news channel in the universe. But let me also say,(and I'm black)that these two have no credibility, imo. I see them both as a joke. They haven't been relevant for a long time. No offense to anyone, just my opinion.
Yeah, he's sorry alright. But he has no remorse for calling TR a faggot, or for lying & denying. Had he been called a nigger, you can bet your boots the uproar would still be in full swing thanks to the likes of Jackson & Sharpton. As a black man, he should have thought long and fucking hard before using a nasty slur to someone else. Asshole...I hope he loses his job.
I think Isiah is an all-around dickhead and needs to be knocked down off his pedastal, but I'm gettin real tired of the bow down, fake ass-kissing apologies to the gay community for every little thing. Fact of the matter is, there was a fight, he said something to be hateful, it's his right to his freedom of speech and personal opinions, and I guarentee every single one of has at one point in time said something against someone else in a hurtful or hateful way. I'm in no way excusing what he said, but for crying out loud, do any of us really beleive the Mel's, the Michael Richards, the Isaiah's are ACTUALLY sorry for what they said? No, they are just sorry they got caught and have to publicly apologize. I would like someone to be honest for once just say, "yeah, I said it, I meant it, that's how I felt at the time, deal with it".
First off to equate the word f***ot with the word n***er doesn't fly with me. However, that doesn't stop the fact that I feel IW should have not even stepped to the mike on awards night. I think that this is not a forum for blatant racists to chime in with the B.S. I know for a fact that IW is not alone with his homophobic views. He was stupid enough to let it be known. I do not think he should be fired. I do feel that no matter what he did on the Globes night, he would still be dogged about saying it. Unfortunately, there is no way good or bad out of this whole mess. I feel that it's up to the cast and crew to sort it out among them and get on with it. There are far more important issues in the world to stress over.
I think he should start a band with with Michael Richards, and Rosie...They should call there band: Career Over, or Sensitivity Seminar. ha ha. There all done. It's just a matter of time.
Isiah May have one more trick up his sleeve. And it's shaped like a penis. If he now can somehow manage to spin this into a "coming out"/trapped in the closet party or a child raped by his Gay uncle, cry for help. He'll win over every powerful minority in business. And then Damn the white man who dare put this Gay, child raped, self hating ,still remembering his childhood pain, Blackman, outta work.
I am so sick of hearing about this. It ruins the show for everyone because Katherine and TR keep bringing it up. Publicity whores. The guy wont get fired, and people should stop speculating about what happens behind the scenes at this show. I hope TR gets even huffier and they write his fat ugly ass off the show. His character sucks anyway. Seeing him stutter about it on Ellen was sickening, he is just as annoying in person as his character is on tv. Spare me the drama, people are jumping all over this for no reason.
I'm confused as to why your gay brother won't watch the show anymore. True, someone on the show used a slur, but he used it against a member of the SAME SHOW. Watching the show would be supporting T.R. as much as anything.
I guess if he's mad that the show didn't fire someone for being an ass, it makes some sense.
And T.R. and Heigl don't "keep bringing it up." They just brought it up now because of Isaiah lying about the fact that he said it in the first place. They were setting the record straight.
Whatever. I'm with the "this has no bearing on the show or the public and should be resolved behind closed doors" camp.
Of course, his homophobia pales in comparison to the homophobia you see, say, here. Yeesh.
It's not OK that he said it. It shouldn't have gotten out and should have been handled internally, but it did get out and there has to be a public response because it's not OK to say that. I, like some of the others here, have codes of work conduct that would mean we'd get fired for saying it. However, I doubt that any of us are as important to our work as Isaiah is to that show. Actually, I suspect we'd get warnings first, sensitivity training, and then if we did it again we'd get fired.
In previous interviews with the cast, I had thought the issue was well-handled. But, something still isn't quite right if he's willing to pop that out at the Globes, and if he's going to lie about it.
I believe his apology is sincere. He is a very well spoken person in the interviews I've seen. Just because Lindsay can't spell or compose good sentences doesn't mean that all actors can't. And whether it all comes from him, or it was suggested by the show that he needed to come up with an apology of some sort, I think it'll be good for him to address whatever's causing him to lose his cool and say hurtful things. He doesn't have a good history of keeping his cool on set. (see the other tmz article regarding that).
I do wish this had never come up, though. It just detracts from the show. I don't need to know details about their personal lives. I didn't want to know that T.R. is gay. It's none of our damn business, and it, as I said, detracts from the show. I do, however, think he's handled it very well, including his appearance on Ellen. He's does a great job on the show.
I love Katherine Heigl's reponse. She's totally classy and I love her loyalty. She'd be such a sweetheart to date. A guy can dream, right?

You racist bitch!! You're just as bad as Washington is for this statement.
First of all, asshole that he may appear to be after this rather unfortunate incident, Isiah Washington is a college graduate. And he happens to be a black man who can actually string together a few sentences or two that sound intelligent, coherent, and sensical, unlike some white stars I've heard of late, actually. So to assume that because he's black he must be inarticulate and couldn't write anything, is just plain racist. As a black woman, I'm insulted by this, as well as a few other comments on this blog about this incident. There's no need for all of this. Try a little tolerance, people !!
If Kathrine is going to critical of Isaish she is the same intollearnt person who condems mentally disabled people . She was in the movie "The Ringer" with Johnny Knoxville. They both had a good time gettting "paid" to poke fun at mentally disabled people and create an unreal view of the lives of special needs people. Sarah Sliverman use the r-word all the time to demean mentally disabled. Morgan Spurlock creator of FX's 30 days has used the r-word to demean mentally disabled people.
