She also broke away from the majors studios to form her own studio for artistic control over the pictures--something that was unheard of at the time and very controversial. And she was married to Arthur Miller, a great playwright, and was instrumental in bringing some of his plays to the screen. She worked with some of the best writers and actors of her day and was always trying to be a better actress and break out of the dumb blonde sexpot box. Oh and she wasn't discovered in a diner--she was a model and worked her way up in Hollywood doing bit parts until she started getting notice.
