Mel Gibson Explodes in Anger, Again

  • Good for him. Sounds like she had it coming.

  • Hey can we get a video of this?? I wanna see him tell her off in action. I think he did an excellent job portraying the Mayans, and half my family is from Mexico! He was right on.

  • Poor Mr. Gibson, can't catch a break. I would say that even if the woman was being rediculous, telling her to "fuck off" probably isn't the best response. Didn't he take some sensitivity class or something after the whole Jew bashing incident?

He should have just kept on making Mad Max movies. No one to offend there but some radiation-poisoned mongoloids.

By The Docktator, on 10:24 AM

  • You know that stuck up bitch would've never had said anything if that whole jewish tyrade of his had never happened.
That woman just wanted to get her name mentioned in the public b/c she wants her 15minutes.
    What a cunt.

    By Tim, on 10:49 AM

  • I think Mel Gibson just had about enough of this people with all their protest and shit.

    List of people who protested
Braveheart = The gay community. The scene where that gay lover was thrown off the window by the king. That scene made them angry.

    Passion = Jews

Apocalypto = Alicia Estrada and the rest of the wetbacks.

    Two words, FUCK OFF!

  • Mel needs to stop making movies, get completely obliterated on some whiskey, and then wrap his car around a tree. Then we can make a movie depicting HIM as a drunken, ignorant, extremist, hateful Catholic! Alright!

Shut your mouth, Mel, for good.

    By chuggdog, on 11:51 AM

  • Yes, you are. Fuck off, lady.

    By Anonymous, on 11:51 AM

  • Where do you get your information from? I am a Meso-American scholar and in non of their codices do they describe such rash behavior. I am able to read native script and all of my information comes straight from the horses mouth and non of what you just described is in any of the native accounts, the mestizo accounts, nor the Spanish accounts written at the time.

    By Lucia, on 12:01 PM

  • "Your the only homo" is grammatically incorrect and makes no sense...

    ...but goddamn, I love it.

    By Anonymous, on 12:03 PM

  • Interesting that all you would automatically think that Mel Gibson would know more about the Mayan culture than a person who has dedicated thier professional and academic life to the study of Central American indiginous people.

Mel Gibson proved (once again) that those in the film industry are beyond reproach - he was asked a simple question to which he could have answered that this was a movie and not a historical account of the Mayans- but instead he preferred to tell an academic to "Eff off" -

He totally withered in this challenge -

    He is an embarrassment.

    By Anonymous, on 12:05 PM

  • if she is so smart then why couldnt she figure it out herself that this is just a movie

    By Anonymous, on 12:19 PM

HUH? where the hell did you this from? one thing is that you agree with Mel Gibson and whatever....but why are you making this shit up? It's funny, yes, but it's completely no true.

    By Anonymous, on 1:19 PM

  • hahah, a professor from CSUN!
your local fucking libararian probably knows more about any given subject then the best profs at any cal state.. pathetic.

    By Anonymous, on 1:21 PM

  • Good for him. These useless assistant profs in ethnic studies departments make their living rewriting history and bitching about "the man" just to gain notoriety. It's these kind of equivocal thinking boobs who believe there is no distinguishing between good and evil who let these a-holes in the middle east blow up buildings left and right and call it "protest". Fuck them. I hope someone cuts her goddamn head off and then we can go tell her class how it was the beautiful expression of an ancient and mysterious culture.

  • um, todd, just a thing, no one is portraying the mayan culture as a friendly puppy love type thing, but the point is that the mayans and their rituals were misrepresented by gibson, who isn't exactly the most decent of people and who just kinda made a worthless flick instead of something with a cultural basis. I mean, sure they may be violent, but if you're going to make a movie about this violence, make it right please.

Maul Gibstone ( Home Alone 13: Stuck in Peru)... Alot of people don't know it but Cris Columbus not only found the NeWorld but he's made alot of neat movies!

  • I am so ashamed to be an american right now--- When did this country become so anti-intellectual? When did we decide that it was appropriate to condemn a woman for knowing more than some jackass nazi "actor" and asking him to be held accountable for the racist garbage he puts on the screen?

Yes, the Mayans engaged in violence... but this movie grossly misrepresented the extent to which violence was a part of Mayan culture. If someone made a movie in which EVERY atrocity perpetuated by white american men from conquest to present day, you 'd better believe that every right wing nut job in the country would be condemning the film in the same way.

Mel Gibson got off easy. I think that he, and every bucktoothed hillbilly who demeans those who are more educated than they are should be neutered.

    By Anonymous, on 9:08 PM

  • but this movie grossly misrepresented the extent to which violence was a part of Mayan culture

Sounds like moral relativism to me.

They *did* perform horrible sacrifices which were totally unnecessary. They were stupid enough to ritually murder their best looking and brightest virgins, thereby removing them from the gene pool. This guaranteed that their race was doomed.

    By Anonymous, on 1:44 AM

  • Probably every social, ethnic or political science in college is tainted by liberal bias, which can be observed just by the fact of how opposite views are randomly treated by professors, who often intimidate and verbally abuse those who have different opinions. In that kind of environment only one (usually extremely P.C.) side of the story gets 'airtime', and if you tell a lie often enough, people will believe it.

We're talking about the kind of people who consider Che Guevara, Karl Marx, Fidel Castro etc to be heroes, and who give a standing ovation to Hugo Chavez. And the words of these people on college should be taken seriously?

Everything in college except the hard sciences is infiltrated with politically correct preachers with a lust for intellectual totalitarianism.

Regardless of Gibson being a loon and an anti-semite, i think it's safe to say he will have had people doing research on Mayan culture before making a fucking movie about it. Besides, there were also ethnic "heroes" in the film that fell pray to ethnic "villains", but we just can't have any 'minority' people portrayed as having ANY violent tendencies or flaws, can we? That's the white man's domain.

College professors and what-ever-civil-rights-defamations-groups would have only been satisfied with a movie about Mayans sitting around a campfire, singing Kumbaya and saying "Bush- he a Nazi", before having a Mayan woman have an abortion done to fight overpopulation and save the rainforest from too much CO2.

    By Anonymous, on 2:51 AM

  • 1:44, on what planet is a race "doomed" because of the sacrifice of attractive virgins? You refer to the gene pool, and yet you clearly have no grasp of the concept of evolution.

Now listen to 9:08, you nitwits. White Americans and the Brits have committed more atrocities in their histories than you can possibly fathom, yet none of you bat an eyelash towards that. Now THAT sounds like moral relativism.

  • Alicia Estrada is part of that whole left-wing, pro-feminist, pro-gay, pro-abortion, pro-Kyoto, pro-what-have-you intelligentsia thing that is, oh-so-trendy, nowadays.

Numerous National Geographic articles have shown not only the Mayans but the Aztecs and Incas as bloodthirsty … and so what? So what if they are? Context is everything -- if that's the way it was back then, so be it. I personally don't think any less or more of the Mayans. I just accept them.

Jolly old England was lopping people's hands off in the 15th century for stealing bread, and executing children. Yes, the English were bloodthirsty too. As were Germans, French, Swedes, Chinese, Belgians, Russians ... the list goes on.

As another poster noted: everyone did that. Welcome to the real world Ms. Estrada. And if you want to protect Mayans, why are you not defending England too, after Gibson portrayed them "wrong and racist" in Braveheart. Oh, wait a minute, the English are just a little too white to 'defend', I guess, hmm ...

    By Anonymous, on 2:15 PM

  • "Jew bashing incident" ... what?? He didn't bash any Jews. Stop exaggerating. If Gibson had beaten up some Jews, that's one thing. But he didn't. Words / actions, there's a big difference.

    By Anonymous, on 2:20 PM

  • mel clearly used a culture he didn't understand as a weak allegory for his perceptions of the present day. i feel sorry for the mayans to have been used in such a way. as if they didn't have enough shit to deal with already.

these misperceptions have been used in the past by the guatemalan gov't as propanganda to attempt to exterminate indigenous populations in the 1980s.

mel should be slapped in the face for this movie.

  • Bullshit... My fiance attends CSUN in their Master's Film Program and we were at the Q&A. The bitch asked for it... she was rude, disruptive, ignorant and annoying. It's just as bad as bringing your script to a director's Q&A and asking them to give it a read. These fucking asshole newspapers need to shut the fuck up and actually listen to what's being said. Eilish and Chris

  • A quick google search shows that Mayan culture included human sacrafice. Amazing how many people can side with someone attempting to publically humiliate a speaker. The fact that the heckler was a professor is irrelevant, or maybe even worse, as she has the facts wrong. This wasn't a simple question from a woman, as the original report says, she "persisted" in telling him he was wrong, and that because her limited knowledge of the Mayan culture was incorrect, she decided to call him racist in this case. Not good behavior to model to college students.

    By Anonymous, on 5:41 PM

  • "They *did* perform horrible sacrifices which were totally unnecessary. They were stupid enough to ritually murder their best looking and brightest virgins, thereby removing them from the gene pool. This guaranteed that their race was doomed"

I don't have a clue where you are getting this information. Murdering their best looking and brightest virgins? There is no evidence that supports that they were murdering anyone, let alone virgins.
Doomed race? Are you aware that there are still over 6 million Maya living in Central America? This does not suggest a doomed race to me.

As a Mayan archaeologist I can assure you that Dr. Estrada's remarks accurately represent the opinions of the Latin American archaeologists I know. The Mayans may have practiced some sacrifice, but we don't have nearly as much evidence for such activities as exists for the Aztecs. The amount of violence in this movie was grossly over-exaggerated and I believe Mel was careless and irresponsible with information that has potential socio-political repercussions for the present-day Maya.

    By Anonymous, on 8:13 PM

  • i'm not a mel gibson fan by any means, but as a college student, i can attest to the fact that many professors are extremely leftist and narrow minded and often try to piss people off.

that being said, violent rituals were very much a part of mayan culture. it is not our place to determine whether or not that was "right" or "wrong." however, to deny that this is the case- that this was a cornerstone of their culture- is ignorant. it also demeans them, as, at the time, they prided themselves on their rituals and customs.

    By Anonymous, on 10:17 PM

  • wow, look at all the people sucking up to mel gibson. it's a celeb-bashing site, but even here people can't help themselves from dropping to their knees and sucking a hollywood idol's dick. what a bunch of followers.

  • More information was printed in the papers on the weekend. Apparently she was so disruptive that she had to be escorted out, after refusing to give up the microphone during questions. BITCH!

    By Anonymous, on 9:52 AM

  • When this movie was in theaters, I was in Mexico on vacation. We did the requisite day trip to Chichen Itza, and our guide, a local Mayan who's family has lived there for generations, and who practices the Mayan religion (albeit minus the scarifice part) actually praised the movie as an accurate depiction of the ancient Mayan culture....

He also explained the temple of the skulls (self-explanatory), and the "Magician's Pit", a naturally formed well that the people believed led to the afterlife, and ritually performed self-mutilation, throwing in their hands or other parts, to honor the gods...Jacques Cousteau did an dive down the well, and found a huge quantity of remains.

So all that to say, this chick is just trying to start shit and get publicity, same as most feminist nutbar profs.
