Marilyn Monroe is Not Anna Nicole Smith
The news was dominated today by Anna Nicole Smith's funeral in the Bahamas, so instead of making fun of the usual suspects' obligatory grandstanding and overacting, here's a rare set of Marilyn Monroe photos:

And I couldn't help but be reminded of Aaliyah, who died too soon, in the Bahamas:

Aaliyah passed way too soon -- she was so beautiful.

i'm almost glad aaliyah "died too soon". she's spared the crap of many insults and comments from nobodies.

ironically though, anna and marilyn got similar starts to their career....i mean they kinda grew up the same and stuff....i don't think that marilyn and anna were similar people but they almost had a parallel type existance and career

Anyone comparin Smith to Monroe is just trying get higher ratings. Smith was a fat pig. Please post that pic of her in the clown makeup. That says it all.

Aaliyah's death was so sad - so so young :(

THANK YOU for finally saying there is a freakin difference between Anna Nicole and Marilyn Monroe, one talentless laughing stock, the other screen goddess and icon.

I love Aaliyah...I still miss her...Class act.
By madgirl, on 9:41 AM
I remember when she, Aaliyah, died we actually had a moment of silence in my school. Loved the old videos. I agree with #1, job well done.

marilyn monroe wasn't very attractive.. what's the big deal
By Anonymous, on 10:33 AM
Aaliyah is the only really big loss here. She was a talented, gorgeous girl who died way too young. I never understood the hoopla surrounding MM. Maybe I'm too young, but I just don't understand why people worship her. She was not that gorgeous and nothing really set her apart from the other bleach-blonde bimbos of her day. I guess when you die young, it fascinates people. I hope 30 years from now people aren't idolizing Anna-Nicole-Idiot the same way they do MM.
By Anonymous, on 10:37 AM
I miss Aaliyah. She truly was an angel on earth
By Anonymous, on 11:15 AM
Aaliyah's the only loss of this post. Anna Nicole and Monroe...I could care less. Aaliyah was talented and gorgeous and a class act to boot (well, except for that marriage to R. Kelly thing, but I'm sure it wasn't true :)
By Anonymous, on 11:50 AM
monroe was just as much a freak with drugs and sex as anna nicole smith was

Anon 10:37 -
You are a moron. And will still be a moron 30 years from now. Perhaps if you had bothered to actually study film in even a cursory fashion you might understand the talent that Marilyn Monroe brought to the screen.
Good grief: The anonymity of this doesn't give you carte blanche to make idiotic statements...
Loose change.
By Anonymous, on 12:13 PM
If she were alive today, Aaliyah would be just one more barely talented, pseudo-R&B singer, as generic as Beyoncé, Christina and all the rest of the crap.
The less the better.
By Anonymous, on 1:05 PM
whas so special bout mm besides she was average, blond, and whored herself?
By Anonymous, on 1:24 PM
The thing about MM was that she was beautiful in a toned down way. Even with all her Make-up, there was still the simple girl you could see in her, the one normal women could relate to.
Even though she was considered a Sex Symbol, she did not pose a threat to them. In all her glamour she had a natural, friendly, fragile, approachable side to her that seemed charming and easy to embrace.
I think that was the world saw in Diana as well. "One of us" up there with all the shiny stars.
How Anna falls into this category... I dont know. As sweet as she might have been and as broken the home she came from was, she was lacking class and style.
When you die all thats left of you is your image, the memory and idea people have of you. It does not matter who you really were. That's what makes an icon.
By Absence, on 1:26 PM
Aaliyah died - and caused a lot of pother people to die, too - because the little diva INSISTED on cramming not only all of the crap they brought TO the Bahamas, but also all of the crap they ACQUIRED during their stay, onto the tiny plane they were traveling in (instead of letting some of the excess baggage go on another flight, or be shipped), making them drastically overweight and unbalanced - which is why they crashed almost immediately after takeoff. She died in the flaming wreckage of her own poor judgement. Read the FAA report. The poor pilot was too scared to tell her and her "people" NO and decided to hope for the best - and we all know how that worked out. Aaliyah is not a victim here, folks; her hubris and vanity and sense of entitlement is the very REASON she's dead. I'm not happy she or any of the other people are dead, but let's not be intellectually dishonest here.
By Brendan, on 1:36 PM
Aaliyah was just another "one name" R&B singer(i.e. Rhianna, Ciara, Beyonce, etc. etc.). The only reason people say "she was so talented" is because she died. The real talent behind Aaliyah was Timbaland, who wrote ALL her backbeats, which were the best part of her music.
By Anonymous, on 1:39 PM
moment of silence in a school over a pop star??? WTF?? Give me a fucking break! There are plenty more deserving people that deserve a moment of silence than some pop star.
Marilyn - Totally overrated!!!! T&A slut banging the married President of the U.S. and other married people in Hollywood. Horrible actress.
Anna - Bottom line fucking loser, drug addict, alcoholic, worthless trash.

Name 5 other bleach blonde bimbos.
That separates her. She wasn't a "bimbo" either. Do your homework.

Not an R&B fan but Aliyah's video for the Romeo must Die soundtrack is good. And sadly, several sources
stated in the media that the Cessna was overloaded with too much luggage.
Somehow someone who was there with the pilot before they all took off witnessed her cajoling the pilot
to let them take a few extra pieces of Vuitton luggage. The extra weight was thought to make them all
crash. So: When on a Cessna, travel light.
Just a P.S.A. for all you fuckers.
By Anonymous, on 3:14 PM
To the idiot who said MM was not attractive, fuck you, you stupid, blind piece of shit. MM could sing, dance, and act. She was a talented commedienne. She was actually intelligent, well-read, and a caring humanitarian. Who the fuck are you and what have you ever given to the world, besides hot air and feces.
By Anonymous, on 3:17 PM
None of these heifers are a loss. Aaliyah was R.Kelly's first piss victim when she married him at 16. Both of them are ghetto trash. Marilyn Monroe was a pretty slut who wanted to be respected but couldn't stop slutting around to be taken seriously. Anna Nicole was a gold digging slut who died and left a lot of ridiculous videos in her "legacy."
None of these people should be glorified.
By Anonymous, on 3:19 PM
^Yes, you are too young. Marilyn Monroe was like no one else in that era, except maybe Jayne Mansfield, who pretty much copied MM.
By Anonymous, on 3:31 PM
MM was born gorgeous, ANS had alot of surgeries. I like both women. But ANS does not look like MM, at all.
MARYW
By Anonymous, on 3:47 PM
I was 14 when Aaliyah died and I was so upset I could barely function at school. So gorgeous, so talented, and such a nice person... what a waste. R.I.P., baby girl.
As for Anna and Marilyn... Well, I'll just say it's really unfortunate how their lives turned out. I wouldn't want to be either of them for all the money and glamour in the world. R.I.P., ladies.

Anna could never be classy like Marilyn Monroe. She was just plain whit trash and I'm glad she's dead. Now, if we could just stop talking about her....
By Anonymous, on 8:59 PM
Thanks for that, I loved it!
By Becky, on 9:27 PM
I think about these women more in terms of the times in which they lived, rather than in direct comparison with each other.
For instance, Marilyn Monroe lived during a time when intelligence and sophistication actually went hand & hand with beauty. Yeah, she was a blonde and might have been considered "dumb" by that day's standards, but were she living in her prime today, she would probably rank somewhere approaching genius (i.e. Madonna) by our present-day "raunch culture" standards.
Also, were she living in the present day era, of tramp-tattoo-stamped, rail thin, shapeless starlets and supermodels with ridiculously oversized, phony porn-star breasts, MM would be considered fat, flat and possibly even "plain" and unattractive.
Today, we obviously don't value intellect, sophistication or authenticity. Instead, it seems that the more crass and stupid you act, and the more tattoos and plastic surgery you get, the more press and attention you'll receive. That's so much of the reason why Britney, Lindsay, Paris Hilton and Anna Nicole receive all of the attention that they do.
As for Aaliyah, she obviously went before her time. But I agree with the poster above that while her death was tragic, the same post-death "elevation to sainthood" would have occured (and probably still would) for say, Christina Aguilera, Britney, Brandy or Jessica Simpson, should one of them pass away before her time.
By Anonymous, on 10:24 PM
Hah, I forgot about Aaliyah and R Kelly, she married him when she was 16. If she was alive today, and think she would be a has-been. As for Marilyn she was pretty but had issues and ANS, I feel sorry for her. After seeing her bio mother on TV, I figured out why she was so darn strange.
GO Howard K Stern, FIGHT!
By aJ, on 10:27 PM
marilyn monroe actually did have plastic surgery before she became "marilyn monroe". and she bleached her hair. there wasnt anything natural about her except for maybe her breasts. dont get it twisted, she was pretty but by no means was it natural.
By Niecy, on 11:10 PM
monroe wasn't attractive? are you kidding me? she had the 'ideal' body for that time period and to me it looks great. she was very pretty. imagine how she would be and how she would meet your sick standards if she was airbrushed and had the amount of surgery that celebrities have to have today to meet your criteria for 'attractive.' Those photos of her aren't airbrushed to hell and she just has some makeup on...and she still looks better than 90 percent of the hohans of this day and age
as for ans, I don't think her life paralleled marilyn's at all. people actually watched her movies and wanted to be with her... ans was a stipper who posed in playboy and married an old man. Not the same at all.
It is sad/tragic that aaliyah died young and most younger people can relate better to that but I don't think she was that great of an artist and she didn't really make a dent on me at all...so I don't think society will look on her as timeless.
By Anonymous, on 12:17 AM
So many people liked Marilyn because she did have class and she was in a lot of movies that had good acting i.e Misfits and Don't Bother To Knock. She went through tough times because people tried to put a label on her as the dumb blonde even though she went to acting class. People who call her a bimbo slut obvously don't know anything about her. She was a legend for a good reason, as for Anna Damn right Anna does not compair Anna was in pornos, willing in Playboy Marilyn wasn't in Playboy willingly Hef bought the pics. Anna was in B movies and married for money Marilyn for love (she already made money herself). So people need to stop compairing the two. Marilyn earned her fame growing out as an orphan Anna was born white trash and became famous as a then stripper BIG DIFFERENCE.

I didn't see the entire ANS funeral, but from the two minute highlite reel I caught on the news it looked like the latest act in a manufactured-for-the-press, anything-you-can-do-I-can-do-better circus.
Howard touches the coffin in 'grief'.
Larry sees Howard touch the coffin in 'grief' and does the same to keep up with Howard.
And how about Howard taking verbal jabs at the other circus performers during his 'grief-ridden' eulogy? He's a real classy guy....
I'm happy they finally buried her. I'd like to hope/believe the fucking story ends there. But I know it won't as long as Larry goddamn King and Nancy goddamn Grace have shows.....
"Tonight on Larry King Live, Larry talks to the cousin of the hairdresser of the mother of a woman who once sold a futon to Anna Nicole Smith. Also, Larry gets John Mark Karr's thoughts on the media circus surrounding Anna Nicole."

Interesting comments..
All of these women were talented, especially Marilyn & Aaliyah. Ann was more a product of the media--as is every icon to some extent, but more so in Anna's case.
Marilyn Monroe was an icon because she brought vulnerability to her performances and was one of the first stars to understand she was an image, play up that image, but simultaneously feel trapped by the image she had helped to craft. She became known for her personal life, later on, more than for her acting. But, she wanted to gain credibility as an actress and took courses.
Part of the fascination with MM is that she was that she seemed accessible and mysterious too. Had she lived in this day and age, I don't think people would find Norma Jean as charming. Today's stars are overexposed to the point of nausea and faux familiarity.
We praise Aaliyah here. However, I feel confident that if she was alive today this website would be making fun of her. Afterall, she wouldn't be a thin, busty, white woman younger than 25. Her voice was much weaker than Beyonce's--someone this site loves to hate on. So, it's facetious that y'all act like Aaliyah's death makes you appreciate her talent when you can't appeciate the talent of those that are alive.
By Anonymous, on 12:03 PM
all this Aaliyah worshipping is so hilarious. News flash- she sucked. Her music was mediocre at best, her acting sucked...and why did anyone care about her again? I can't stand people still kissing her decomposed ass just because she died. "An angel on earth"?? You must be kidding.
By Anonymous, on 12:36 PM
im tired of some ppl on this site bashing MM...not only is she immortal anf nobody will EVER forget the legend and legacy she brought but she was by far the most beautiful woman to ever grace the silver screen. She is and always will be what all younge actresses aspire to be. She was at the top of her game when hollywood was still glamorous and not all crazy and wild. She was a brilliant poet and a kind hearted woman. I'd like to see all you ppl who are bashing her be remembered and still have so much love and fans more then 50 years after your death.
By Anonymous, on 1:32 PM
We can't quesiton and criticize why people worship and romanticize Marilyn's life? There was nothing romantic about her life. Early on, she did porn movies and worked as a call girl. She had a severe addiction to drugs and alcohol. She slept around during her first marriage (before her fame) and then later in life, she carried on affairs with married men (including Arthur Miller and John Kennedy). She had many abortions. She even had a relationship a 70 year old man who happened to be one of the founders of 20th Century Fox. She really did sleep her way to the top. She did have plastic surgery (i.e. her chin).
Her life had all the elements of celebrity life today. Her life was scandalous in her time and ours. If she were alive today, she'd get the same treatment from the public that many messed up ho's in the biz get.

I wept like a baby when I heard that Aaaliyah had died. She was a strong, positive black role model that our girls so desperately needed at a time when hiphop was becoming trashier by the second.

It's sad and pathetic. people have got their values all fucked up, including you, fucking twait!
By Anonymous, on 4:09 PM
There is NO comparison between Marilyn and ANS. And Aaliyah? Aaliyah? She's not even a footnote. Best thing to happen to her career and legacy was that plane crash.
MM married the best baseball player of his time, maybe of all time, a man who was a national hero and a household name. They loved each other until the day she died, and Joe D paid for her funeral and put flowers on her grave every week. Then MM married the preeminent playwright of his generation, an intellectual who himself said that MM was his equal. Again, the glare of celebrity doomed their relationship. MM had affairs with the president and his brother the attorney general.
ANS married a rich old man for his money and bore a child to a nobody boy-toy "photographer" and allowed herself to be dominated by a truly evil man, Howard K. F*cking Stern, more evil than the other Howard Stern.
Marilyn was a victim of the times in which she lived. ANS was a nobody whom nobody will even think of a year from now.
By Anonymous, on 7:23 PM
I have never watched any of Marilyn's movies so I don't have anything to say about her talent or screen presence. However, I honestly do NOT see the big deal about her regarding her looks. She was a pretty woman, but not gorgeous in any way. She looks like every other blonde with sex appeal, but that isn't rare, back then or now. If you want real classic beauty, take a look at Elizabeth Taylor (raven black hair + violet blue eyes = crazy beautiful.)
Whether you're willing to admit it or not, Marilyn only became a legendary icon because of her SLUT status. She may have carried herself in a classy way, but a skank is a skank.

To 12:29, I don't wish I was or wasn't black. I'm only saying that if Aaliyah was alive I find it hard to believe that this site would look so kindly on her. It's not just because she black. Aaliyah's voice was okay, but not great. She seemed humble. It's nice to look back kindly on someone. I just think it would be nicer if we remembered that sometimes someone's death is what makes people remember them in a different, sometimes better, kinder, way.

To all the HYSTERICAL MM fans on this board. Get a fucking life! I've seen many of her films. She couldn't act, her beauty was superficial (bleach and twenty pounds of pancake makeup) and she was FAT. She was clearly a whore---who DIDN'T she sleep with to get where she was? This woman practically invented the term "casting couch." Get your heads out of your asses. It's 2007. The only people who still idolize MM are fat queens and losers who have not moved into the 21st century yet.

God, Marilyn Monroe was dazzling in any setting! She must be rolling over in her grave at the comparisons between ANS and her. Marilyn had talent and charisma, to name just two differences.
By Anonymous, on 6:46 AM
2:50, please provide proof that MM did a porno; 10:47, how can you judge MM's charisma when you've NEVER WATCHED HER ON SCREEN? Idiot.
As for Aaliyah, I did think she was a mediocre singer with terrible songs, but I'm still sorry she's dead. If it's true that she did indeed overload the plane, that's just disgusting - how could anyone be so stupid?
By Anonymous, on 6:55 AM
I will be honest and say that I don't really give a flying fuck about any of these people. I will say that Aaliyah had talent, and I doubt that she would be an object of hatred in the media if she had not been killed. Also, it's pretty fucked up for people to say that she deserved to die and caused the deaths of innocent people with her selfishness and by wanting to pack too much shit on an airplane. It was a showing of poor judgementon her part, but she didn't know that the plane was going to crash. She was young and on top of the world...at least for a few moments there after take-off.
Okay, bad joke. I'll admit that.
By The Docktator, on 6:59 AM
Brendan - Aaliyah wasn't in charge of knowing how little weight their subpar plane could handle. It is the pilots JOB to inform them of these things. To claim that the plane crash was her fault is ridiculous.
By Anonymous, on 9:07 AM
6:55 - According to an FBI memo Joe DiMaggio offered to buy a rare stag film starring Marilyn for $25,000 but he was turned down. The memo states that Marilyn was seen committing a "perverted act upon an unknown male."

By Anonymous, on 11:53 AM
10:24, you're misstating things. There's no proof that it's actually MM, and I found an alleged stag film that was clearly NOT her. But here's the actual cut and paste from Smoking Gun:
Decades before sleazy entrepreneurs began peddling phony videos of Jennifer Lopez and Christina Aguilera caught on tape, one New York City skell screened a film for an FBI informant that purportedly showed Marilyn Monroe "committing a perverted act." The film's owner claimed to have turned down a $25,000 offer from Joe DiMaggio for the one-of-a-kind obscene clip, according to reports from the bureau snitch, who was supervised by agents in the FBI's Albany, N.Y. office. Give it about three days and this clip (or an approximation) will appear on some pay-to-play Internet site.

And I'm not sure why one lone poster is putting up all these hysterical, shrieking posts trashing MM, including pretending to be other people. Okay, you don't have to like her. But hello, you're acting like she stole your man, got you fired and kicked you in a mud puddle.

To everyone calling Marilyn fat, she would actually be a size 4 in todays US sizes. There was a period yes, when she gained weight, during the actors strike, but in most of career especially near the time of her death she was very slim and had a 22 inch waist. I don’t understand how everyone can call her fat, when she had a perfectly slim hourglass figure. Truthfully if she was around today she would by no means be a real size 12. I guess it’s just sad because she defiantly wouldn’t be a size 0 like every other actress around today to she’s automatically labeled "fat". Also during those times if you notice she was actually slimmer then ALOT of the other actresses around at that time.
And to every obnoxious jerk in here, you all make a perfect example of why it’s so hard to come by a true gentleman nowadays.

aaliyah's plane crashed, primarily, because the pilot was literally high on cocaine when he was flying. lay people should not be held responsible for abiding by weight limitations on a plane.

Because it was a known fact she was a skank IN REAL LIFE, douche bag. I wasn't saying anything about her movie characters. Get off her fucking ass; she's not as great as you think she is. And quit calling her MM like she was your friend or something, you psycho.

NONE OF THE PASSENGERS ON AALIYAH'S PLANE INSISTED ON ANYTHING!!!!!THE TAPE OF THE SUPER SHORT FLIGHT REVEALS IT ALL!!!during the trial it was revealled that the pilot was both drugged and high..and was'nt even licensed to drive the plane in the 1st place! the person that booked the plane flight is the idiot, they should have checked that all people that operate the planes and anything else in the airport are able to do the job right. im not saying the anyone on that plane deserved to die including the pilot. cuz thats juszt not the case.the only person i can ever think of that deserved to die are like, hitler, and anyone in the KKK.

9:18. "Because it was a known fact she was a skank IN REAL LIFE, douche bag."
So, just out of curiosity, what makes you say that? Who died and made you Chief of the Morals Police? What makes you so comfortable passing judgments on people? I think I know the answer to that question already though given the "douche bag" name calling. My theory is that you're only 12 years old and you have yet to hear the one about the people who live in glass houses throwing stones. . . Can you prove me wrong?
By Anonymous, on 6:00 AM
9:18, you dumb shit, I'm not "on her ass", writing MM instead of typing out her full name is to save space. And still, charisma is a separate issue from character in real life; the general public didn't know her personally, so by what other means would they get the impression she was charismatic? You're still stupid. Do you dismiss other things for crappiness without having watched or read them? Twat.

ANS was a stripper. ANS did pose for Playboy. ANS did have a modeling career with companies such as Guess (which made her famous and wealthy). Only AFTER ANS gained fame and popularity did she marry JHMII (an oil tycoon) who she had known for some 4+ years. You people need to get your story straight. She had already gained fame prior to marrying JHMII. Following his death, she still had modeling contracts, a TV show, and other business ventures including movies.
ANS was a very beautiful woman who idolized MM. She attempted to make herself look like MM.
Seriously, before you make comments about people you should do your homework. I am an avid MM and ANS fan, and I've seen all the movies, documentaries, and read plenty of stories about both women. Furthermore, ANS had breast augmentation, but didn't have all the plastic surgery some retard said both women had. You can look at the May 1992 Playboy (where ANS first appeared as Vicky Smith) and she is identical to when she died. Furthermore, prior to Playboy she never had the $$ to have any surgeries. For that matter, what was the range of plastic surgery prior to 1962? Not very much!! Therefore, I don't see any evidence to support claims that MM had any surgeries either.
It's plain and simple that both women were NATURAL beauties.
Which is very rare in our society when people like BS, LL, and PH are "beautiful" ... they're all ugly as hell and could never be as attractive as MM or ANS.
RIP both of the ladies.

#237 Marylin Monroe (10th highest earning dead celeb)
Marylin (Monroe) had resolved to sleep with anyone who could help her attain fame and fortune in Jewish-dominated Hollywood. As Norma Jean had vowed to me, whoever she had to fuck, she was prepared to do it. "By 1953," Jordan reports, "... [Monroe] could be virulently anti-Semitic. To my discomfort she would sometimes refer to Joe Schenck, the mogul [and another sexual stepping stone], as 'that Jew shit' and to other Hollywood personalities as 'Jew' this or that. onroe's anti-Semitism did not prevent her from later converting to Judaism, at the behest of her Jewish husband, playwright Arthur Miller, who (despite his vocal anti-racialism) would not wed an uncoverted Gentile. The Hollywood world and its pressures of being a sex goddess of course destroyed her. Monroe's physician Hyman Engelberg (Jew) and her therapist Ralph Greenson (Jew) were the first to her death scene, reported to be the result of a drug overdose, but they did not call police for four hours.

Ted Jordan is not a reliable witness or reporter about anything MM said. He is one of a dozen or more bullshit artists who made a little pile of notoriety off the bones of a dead woman.
Marilyn was, simply put, the movie star of her generation and a pretty good actress. If you doubt this watch at least four or five of her movies. She knew how to build a character and convey its essence to the viewer, and those characters will live forever.
Marilyn's feelings about Jews and Judaism were complex, but she saw herself after her 1956 conversion as a Jewess (though not an observant one) to the end of her life. Joe DiMaggio did not particularly like Jews, and saw to it she was buried in a Christian ceremony, although a generic Protestant one-Joe was Catholic, and in 1962 the gulf between Catholicism and generic Protestantism was wider than today. But she was not Catholic and he was still technically excommunicated for marrying her. Joe did spend his last years in frequent proximity to his Jewish attorney/manager, who made him much more money from signing baseballs than he ever made as a player.
