Well, I have to disagree with Roseanne on this one. The gays and lesbians I've known do speak out on gay issues, but I've known plenty who were active on other issues: politics, environment, dog parks, etc. In fact, I think most of them were like that, concerned about various issues; I've met many on political campaigns. I'm in Massachusetts, where there are plenty of "out" gays and lesbians. Now aside from that, there are TONS of people of all sexual orientations who only ever talk about their chief interest or whatever group they identify with: Hunters, union members, cops, what have you. So I have no doubt many gays and lesbians are like that as well, but I just haven't met a lot.
Dog parks are not an issue to "speak out" about in the same sense as, say, terrorism or minimum wage. It's still in the category of having your head up your own ass, sorry.
I'm an asian girl and I've been saying that about gays for a while. They don't give a rat's ass when racial slurs are thrown out at me or other VISUAL minorities, but you better believe some of them want me to jump on the band-wagon and protest for their "rights."
Once, when there was a whole bunch of shit going on kind of because of me, I said "Can't we all just get along". And everybody kind of picked up on that, and things were cool for awhile.
wait, so it's news that people like to talk about themselves? and interest groups like to talk about... their own interests?
ok. i'd also like to point out that all the paranoid rednecks i know obsess over the alleged disappearance of the white man in america, and all the people i know in wheelchairs spend a lot of time bitching about how most businesses are inaccessible. i guess they're just narcissistic though, right>
good for you asian girl. She used gays as an example of being self absorbed shes refering to people like you too idiot. Whether its sexual or racial, interest groups and minorities focus on their cause and no one elses, so dont get uppity about people not getting up at arms over slurs toward "visual" minorities because im sure your the first person to stop someone from calling someone else a faggot.
Asian people are the worst self interest groups ever. They only care about themselves and that's one of the main reasons why they drive like assholes and invade everyone else's personal space.
anon 1:46, thanks for reminding us there are racist fuckwads like you still out there (lest we forget in this furor over homosexuality) attaching race to stereotypes. Listen to Don Imus much?
Yeah, self-interested people are always going to be more absorbed by their own issues but not everybody is like that. They're initially driven by a single issue but that awareness leads people to sensitivity about other sub-groups conditions, too. Generally. Unless they're just a zealous nutjob, of course . . .
LOL about asians invading personal space. They all think they're in Hong Kong, where the population density is so high that everyone is rubbing shoulders.
I know plenty of gays and lesbians who fight for other causes, as well as the right to be viewed as HUMAN BEINGS by some people. But perhaps you don't hear about them because it seems rather redundant to exclaim: "I'm here, I'm queer!" if you are fighting for better healthcare or minimum wage. It serves no purpose. Oh wait, ya think?!
I'd have loved to see someone get away with this kind of crap, having said the same thing about African-Americans or Asians. "ZOMG! All you BLACK people ever blab about is racism and how you can't get a job because of your skin colour! Or someone beat you up because of it! Boohoo!"
Yea. Right. People would be so upset, but because we're talking about gay people (OMG! DISGUSTING!) it's somehow socially acceptable to spew such bullshit.
Boohoo, gay people want the right to marry, why can't they just accept being viewed as disgusting virus carrying fags?
Get over yourself, Rosanne. And some of you here, sheesh, closet homosexists, aren't we?
...Just this week an Associated Press story about Patricia Todd, the first openly gay person ever elected in the state of Alabama, highlighted her work in the State House of Representatives to establish a state minimum wage in Alabama.
What an ignorant comment. As an environmental activist that happens to be gay, I know there are a lot of gays and lesbians involved in the environment and many other issues. Its just that A.) You can't necessarily tell if someone is gay by looking at them, and B.) there's no reason for us to identify our sexual orintation if it's irrelevant to the cause that we're fighting for. Do you carry a sign that says "Straight people for clean air!"?
you people are missing the point. gays try so hard to make everyone accept them knowing that it is completely impossible. they push their beliefs onto other people and once you dont believe what they believe then they're quick to call you homophobic. I got called homophobic in the past for saying that I didnt believe people aren't born with sexual preference. So they go ahead and say that because you think that gays aren't born gay then you hate them. If you dont agree with gay marriage (which i have no problem with) then you're homo basher. you cant win with the gays unless you agree with their beliefs. they should work more on having people tolerate their lifestyle rather than going to the extremes for acceptance because thats only going to make someone hate them more. now GLAAD (who i believe does a horrible job and repping the gay community) is gonna have a feild day with rosanne and demand she apologizes etc.. etc... which she has already done through her myspace. i hope she tells GLAAD to fuck off.
Isn't everyone self-obsessed? Especially in this day and age in this country? I can count the number of truly selfless people I've met in my entire 37 years on this planet on one hand. Like global warming, ubiquitous self-absorption is a fact and it ain't going anywhere.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out that there are many homo/hetero/bi/whateversexuals out there fighting for minimum wages or social security, except they don't publicize their sexual preferences so you just think they're straight.
You know what may be a shock to all of you? Homosexuals are NOT a race. All races have, though not complete, independence, whereas homosexuals can't even walk down the street without getting some kind of look. BUSH PLANNED ON BANNING GAY MARRIAGE.
Maybe that's why they're so interested in their cause.
Right on! I have a lot of hat wearing friends and all they talk about is hats and their right to wear them. There is no scientific evidence to prove some people are born wearing hats it is inherently narcissistic therefore to wear a hat. I mean god there is a war on. Thank you Roseanne for helping cut divisiveness by telling a vast swathe of people of all diferent backgrounds they are in love with themselves but it is ok because whilst they are not normal at least they dont have sex with children or animals. nice .
Have a few gay friends...One is a big Oberman fan...he is very into all the world issues. This of course is a small sample but I will not agree with anything this retard Trailer Trash has to say. I cant even believe she is allowed to speak in a public forum.
2:19 PM You fucking pansy. Let the first person who never said a racest comment throw the first stone. If you have life experiences and dont have your head burried up your fucking ass you would hate or resent somebody. Of course if you are a good looking girl, you have had everyone kiss your ass forever so you have no idea about the real world for the rest of us.
Tell the white girls in Long Beach beatin an inch from their life that. Did you march with Al Sharpton at the DUKE campus during the rape aligation that is being dropped?
Stop defending the very people who will burn down their city if they dont get their way, the same people who cheered OJ after he cut two peoples heads off. Two white peoples. NO ASSHOLE THE HATE RUNS DEEP, but the most hate is for the white girls who fuck them. I see slave owners all the time. The white girl drives and buys.... I dont hate black people if you can believe it and Imus is a jerk for saying what he did. Those girls play basketball at college and did nothing to deserve this. But why is it you cant say a thing if you are a white man but Black proformers can get away with anything, and you stupid white retards buy their shit. Welcome to the real world. The world where wars are fought and people die. The world that is not fair and the world people say shit you dont like. Maybe everyone should be fired....give me a break.
I'd like to think we can all bond over the fact that NO interest group wants to claim Britney Spears ...
The only thing I'll agree with Roseanne is that some homosexuals do go overboar with the issues thing .. but everyone is like that and it pisses me off when anyone does it ... I get it .. you care about stuff ... shut up ...
have any of you taken any political science courses? lobbying courses?
HELLO!!! Interest groups are going to press their issue. It makes no sense for a labor union group to talk to their congressmen about gun control. Human beings: gay, minorities, rednecks, etc...are self interested. They are going to support the issue most salient to them. It's not rocket science to understand that.
Now if you are talking about your gay friend Larry and bitching because he only talks to you about gay marriage rallies and you never here him discuss darfur...well that's your own personal issue with him. Maybe you have a point, maybe you don't. Maybe he thinks of you as his christian friend Joe who always talks about going to mass. Point is that no one likes someone who FORCES their beliefs on someone and I believe that is what Roseanne might have been referring to... However, her comment just wound up sounding ignorant.
Interest groups, however, are obviously only going to discuss their key issue. So if you know gay people are just bitching about them because they aren't in greenpeace...well that is your own deal.
1:44PM, 1:46 & 2:26, it's funny how you all assumed that when I said "Asian" I was referring to "Hong Kong" (as one of you mentioned) or "Oriental." Anyway, when I said "Asian," I was referring to another part of Asia . . .
Anyway, I was trying to make the same point as someone who posted above my comments about the difference between visual minorities and homosexuality (and yes, there are those people who are both visual minorities and homosexual). Being born with dark skin or slanted eyes or other features that aren't typical of originating from white, European ancestry is far more obvious to point out than someone who may be gay and may not openly announce (for lack of a better word) his/her homosexuality (NB: I said 'may', suggesting that is not always the case). I do have gay acquaintances who have seen/heard racial slurs used against me for no reason and although they acknowledge that the slurs are uncalled for, it's not really an issue for them. However, they do often invite me to events concerning their causes. My statement was simply making a point about my own experiences, and no doubt there will be countless others who have different experiences to counter mine. However, saying that I'm concerned about my "own self interests" is ridiculous. Until people of all races can walk around in America and not be called "paki, chink, niggar, cracker, spic, etc." just because of where they are at a particular moment and who they are, that should be an interest of all of ours. That also goes for homosexuals, despite the fact that they aren't a "race."
Calling me selfish is hypocritical, because if you are Caucasian (I'm basing this on an assumption, but I would hazard to guess that at least 1 of you is), that would mean that you to are too "self-absorbed" to care about others.
You all completely missed the point and went straight for the racist slurs, suggesting that you apparently can't discuss things as adults and/or take things out of context due to your inability to comprehend words that contain more than 4 or 5 letters (unless of course, they are derogatory).
Anyway, I can't add anything to 4:04PM's comment, apart from a 'here, here.' --- in response to the posters I mentioned above.
12:30, that was kind of the point, about dog parks; that they're a narrowly focused interest group concentrating on one tiny issue. (Of course not everyone involved in that is ONLY interested in dog parks, I'm just saying that there are plenty of people who only care about ONE single, local thing.)
Anonymous said... You're driving down the street at 45 mph and the car in front of you just decides to stop for no apparent reason. Guess who is driving.
3:29 PM
Is the answer Rosanne? Didn't know she was a gay asian women... oh no a combination that could never happen ... rofl
So the reason we don't see gays caring about other causes is because sexuality is irrelevant to a minimum wage rally and we would never know that some of the protesters are gay????
Really??
This misses the point. A lot of us KNOW gays. We don't just see them at rallies. We know them personally.
Chances are when people spend their whole lives being harrassed and vilified, they're going to chiefly be concerned with their own issues. It's called self-preservation and you all do it.
And as far as people choosing to be gay, how the fuck would you know?! Unless maybe you've got a little secret of your own?
This misses the point. A lot of us KNOW gays. We don't just see them at rallies. We know them personally.
And all they ever talk about is themselves.
And some of us ARE gay, so we know better. :)
I haven't been to a single gay-marriage rally, I have, however, been to many many environmental rallies. But then agian, you wouldn't be able to tell I was gay, if it wasn't for that huge neon sign blinking above my head, so I realise it's hard to comprehend we hang out at other places than those gay bars, and gay rallies.
Sorry but if you're not gay you have no idea what it's like. Some gay people may be focused on gay rights and for good reason. Who the fuck else is going to fight for us? Until you understand what it's like to face loosing your family, your job, or getting randomly beaten up just because of who you're attracted to, you have no right to judge.
That is so ignorant. That is as stupid as saying all black people focus only on African American rights. Is is something that concerns them - hell yes! It's about their lives and the right to live them. But just because they dont walk the streets screaming about homelessness, starving children or whatever the cause doesn't mean they are not actively involved in helping the situation behind the scenes. Not every jesture has to be televised for the maximum attention of serving ones self you fugly cow.
I have to wonder which of her "suppossed" attention grabbing personalities gave up being molested by its father, raped or selling sex in the back of a pinto to give that interview. What a trash bag.
"Science" has not "proven" homosexuality is genetic...where do you people get your information from... Obviously not any REAL scientific journals...maybe "Dr" Phil?

Because that's not at all related to the issue.
Shut up, Roseanne.

You're driving down the street at 45 mph and the car in front of you just decides to stop for no apparent reason. Guess who is driving.

7:13 - that is bullshit. there is no real proof that a mother's hormones during her pregnancy determine the sexual preference of the baby.
stop spreading lies like that online, idiots on here might actually believe you...be responsible fucktard.

So the reason we don't see gays caring about other causes is because sexuality is irrelevant to a minimum wage rally and we would never know that some of the protesters are gay????
Really??
This misses the point. A lot of us KNOW gays. We don't just see them at rallies. We know them personally.
And all they ever talk about is themselves.
By Anonymous, on 8:53 AM
I dont care if your gay, asian green, a carrot, a cake, a telephone, dog park activist, I hate you all
By Anonymous, on 11:30 AM
Chances are when people spend their whole lives being harrassed and vilified, they're going to chiefly be concerned with their own issues. It's called self-preservation and you all do it.
And as far as people choosing to be gay, how the fuck would you know?! Unless maybe you've got a little secret of your own?
By You're Not a Scientist, on 11:35 AM
11:35AM "YOU ALL DO IT?"
Sounds like you are touchy with this issue and ready to respond at the drop of nothing, so you're probably some gay douche. STFU
By Anonymous, on 12:51 PM
Wait, wasn't Roseanne the lady who made tv history by kissing a woman?
She's a trailer trash hypocrite.
By Anonymous, on 12:52 PM
8:53AM I agree. And by "themselves" what you mean is "all they ever talk about is bum-poking or carpet munching."
FACT.
By Anonymous, on 12:54 PM
I have had some gay friends that talk about things other than themselves....
like whatever the liberal media has programmed them to talk about.

By Mark, on 2:27 PM
Sorry but if you're not gay you have no idea what it's like. Some gay people may be focused on gay rights and for good reason. Who the fuck else is going to fight for us? Until you understand what it's like to face loosing your family, your job, or getting randomly beaten up just because of who you're attracted to, you have no right to judge.
By Anonymous, on 2:34 PM
By Chilly, on 4:44 PM
Well anyone who calls himself "Prettyboy" should be the authority on being queer.
Science has proven that Homosexuality is genetic and not a choice or learned. So you can come out now and tell your parents to deal with it.
By Chilly, on 4:46 PM
I totally forgot!!! Mark, where did you find that sign?? and does it come in rainbow neon of just pink?
By Chilly, on 4:49 PM
"Science" has not "proven" homosexuality is genetic...where do you people get your information from...
Obviously not any REAL scientific journals...maybe "Dr" Phil?
