she did look like she just drove off the side of the road for no reason at all, and how did the car flip over? none of it makes any sense to me at all.
Djeses, giving a box to some in the back seat isnt hard. 1.you can just bend your hand slightly back without moving your head. 2.the person with the cam could have taken it and passed it back.
Why on earth is she swerving? From teh short glimpse of the side of the road that they're driving into it doesn't look like they were the first ones to dodge something in the road righ there.
And yes, a seatbelt and quit passing stuff around the car would probably have helped which makes it all the more sad.
sad for sure, but this looked entirely preventable. This is the way most teenagers drive, too fast, talking to other people in the car and basically not paying attention to the road.
i'm not sure what i think about the p.j.'s in the casket. i guess if you're going to be in a box for the rest of eternity, you might as well be comfortable?
Okay...from the looks of the video, it could have been a minivan with the lap belt but not the shoulder belts. I doubt that the reports would all say she was wearing a seatbelt and she wasn't. And since there is no view of her actually taking her eyes off the road, all that is known is that she passed an object to the back. How many of us do the same shit? I drive a 2000 Dodge Durango and a minivan. Both have tendencies to react sensitively to minor swerves, as most SUVs and minivans do. So honestly it could have been a simple swerve without taking her eyes off the road. We take the same dangers when changing the radio station, talking on the phone, looking in the mirrors, and other activities while driving.
My point don't condemn if you yourself aren't innocent. This video doesn't show anything more than a slight swerve but no one knows from what. Maybe an animal on the road or a tree limb she tried to avoid???
I'm not jumping for joy that the poor girl's dead, but...
"talented and still-provocative artist."
...is just a wee bit hyperbolic, now isn't it? I haven't heard one of their songs on the radio in years now and, let's face it, she rapped like a chipmunk on helium. They were a completely producer-driven act with no real legacy at all, so I have no idea what all the noise about them is about. They're probably about to re-form or release a box set or something.
Honestly, I didn't see that the driver did anything wrong. It didn't look wild. Nothing was really going on. She passed something to the back. It didn't look like she was talking to the back or carrying on or distracted by that. Looks like something came up in the road and she lost control. It is sad. Lisa did not look like she did anything to make it happen and anything to focus blame on herself.
People should be respectful (yes, even this site).
Yeah, right. Everybody turns up like that immediately after dying. Imagine Fuggie dying today (we wish). She would be instaly promoted to this same level when we all know it's BS in both cases.
"beautiful, talented and still-provocative artist"
it's the same every time. a black kid gets killed in a hit-and-run, and if he didn't have a long arrest record and occasionally attended classes at school, he's referred to as an "honor student." this chick was every bit as batshit-insane and alcohol/drug-using as Britney or Lindsay. she simply had enough street smarts to pick 2 kneejerk slogans - "Grrrl Power!" and "Stop AIDS Now" - and bray about them repeatedly to create a smokescreen for her constantly immature personal behavior. and the suckers fell for it every time, even after her death.
Lisa, she had both hands on the wheel and the video clearly shows she jerked it to the left. It looks likemsomething was in the road and she turned too fast to be able to correct. Either that or she was sucidal. I didn't watch the special... why Honduras anyway? And let's be honest, if she were alive, this conversation WOULD be about a batshit celebrity arsonist.
I don't get it. Why was she still bloody in her casket? Why didn't the morticians clean her up for presentation? (Or was that photo taken before they did so?)
she was doing missionary work there too. sad when someone tries to change their life around and gets killed. its also sad that the last few seconds of her life where on film. RIP
Yes I'm sure we all know how she really was when she was alive, but she is dead now. People should respect the dead above all else, why would the people mourning her death want to hear anything negative and/or cruel said about her? It would be disrespectful if they did it any other way, and the media knows that. Death is basically a clean slate for those reasons, most of the struggles she had were her own. So it's not like she was Hitler or some other mass murderer. See, look at Anna Nicole. When she was alive, she was seen as trash and ridiculous but now that she's dead people now see her as misunderstood. Her death brought people to the realization that her drug and alcohol problems were indeed anything but ridiculous. And I bet that if people saw it comming they wouldnt have just sat there and took pictures of her and used her behaviour as fuel to make fun of her. Family members who claimed to have tried everything to get her help would have "magically" found a way to haul and drag her to rehab and keep her there until she got the help she needed. Pretty sad
driving too fast. if you're going the proper speed for your car, the road and it's conditions, you SHOULD be able to swerve and not kill yourself. slow the fuck down, everybody.
"Her death brought people to the realization that her drug and alcohol problems were indeed anything but ridiculous"
I'm pretty sick of everything being blamed on "drug and alcohol problems" as if they have a magical external influence on people, who become angels when they're sober. Lots of drunks become drunks because they're angry, hostile, unhappy people, not because alcohol made them that way. This chick was FUCKED UP, to the core - an emotionally unstable, undersocialized, permanently immature, it's-all-about-me manipulator. I hate how gullible people are when the full celeb media whitewash machine kicks it - "turned the corner", "confronted her demons", "still controversial and outspoken", blah blah blah. Fuck you - work and act responsibly, without excuses or allibis, like the rest of us.
I wasn't a big fan, but it's too bad she died. I know several people who didn't wear seatbelts until they were in serious accidents and then decided to be safer. That said, I'd still be terrified driving in most south-of-the-US-border countries. The roads are notoriously awful; check how many buses go over the side of cliffs all the time, for instance.
"So it's not like she was Hitler or some other mass murderer."
Please, she probably swallowed more than 6,000,000 sperm in her life...so she's comparable. Maybe not Hitler, but, she's probably in the 4th or 5th circle of hell, with Stahlen and the girl from Different Strokes.
I read that she was thrown from the car and had a seatbelt on which is really odd. From the video, theres no belt across her chest. And everyone else survived which is also odd, I doubt they all had seatbelts on. Im sure one of the passengers saw what caused the crash.
It looks like she decided to kill herself and tried to take those others with her. She way overswerved to avoid whatever was in the road, and for the crash to have been that severe, she might even have kept her foot to the metal while the car was crashing.
Foul play had no part in Lisa Lopes' death; her demise was the result of her recklessness and bad driving. Speeding on a Honduran highway in an SUV containing nine people, she had been attempting to pass a car when a truck approached from the other lane, forcing her to veer sharply to the left. The Mitsubishi Montero she was driving struck two trees and flipped over several times. None of the eight passengers were seriously injured, but Lopes was killed instantly in the crash, dying of a massive blow to the head and a fracture at the base of her cranium.
The facts of the fatal accident are not in dispute. Lopes had been speeding and had been trying to pass another vehicle. No one could have engineered such a set of circumstances, so all thought that the singer had been killed by someone other than herself should be dismissed.
I was big TLC fan as a teen, but most of these comments are either hilarious, correct, or both. Bitch was crazy, let's not pretend. Love her, but she was fucked uuuuup. R.I.P., Lefty.
PS: You guys talk about ass-to-mouth contact and bukkake like they're bad things. Lighten up, fuckers!
HAHAHAHAHA, you are right "Tom." By adding your real name to this blog, you are a total badass, way to be upfront. I dont think your "name" means shit on here to anyone tough guy unless it links to your personal website. those are the only people who should be able to say shit about those who sign "anon." go take your meds, punk.
No, I'm sorry, this must be bullshit. There's no way that Lisa Lopes would have engaged in any type of risky behavior. I love her, and I hate the people talking trash about her. She was a sinless angel of God. One day I hope to meet a girl half as virtuous as Lisa was, and on that day I shall pronounce myself "lucky!" (and "nonvirgin" shortly thereafter, hopefully).
Hey I think I found a clue! If you slow the video down and look at it frame-by-frame, right before she swerves off the road there's a sign on the left that says "Fried Chicken".
A bunch of black girls in a car, talking, passing things around, and taking crazy risks to pass other cars. Pretty ordinary, actually. Kudos to their agents and PR staff.
"Lisa, from what I've heard, you're using your paper, not for writing, but for rolling doobies!! You're gonna be doing a lot of doobie-rolling when you're living in a van down by the river!"
During that quasi-documentary, they say that she was wearing a seat belt. When you watch the video on tv (not on the net) you can clearly see she *was not* wearing a seat belt.

Lisa is the only one who'll ever know why she swerved off the road into the brush. No one else was looking at the road at the time. The person in the front seat was facing backwards and the girls in the backseat were looking down.
She could've swerved to avoid hitting an animal.. quite common for that area.
"When you watch the video on tv (not on the net) you can clearly see she *was not* wearing a seat belt."
She wasn't in the US, so it's extremely easy to believe that she was wearing a lap belt but no shoulder belt. You don't see that in the States any more because we discovered that it's still really easy to die in a crash by bashing your head into the steering wheel and door frame when you roll your SUV because you were distracted by the big metal box of weed being passed around the car.

If you can, catch the video on tv. It's very clear and crisp and you can see the bright orange end of the seat belt fastener down next to her hip. She definitely was not wearing a seat belt.
I am sad to admit that I actually watched a little of this show. I have no idea why her family would release this crap except to get money. She had a slew of emotional disorders and should not have been behind the wheel of a car at all. But she obviously was hurting for cash and wanted to do anything to try to make money, so she invited cameras to follow her crazy ass. She shouldn't have been playing around, handing things to other people in the car and playing up to the camera while she was driving. It was stupid. She thought there was a spirit chasing her, trying to kill her and commented on it prior to this accident. (Apparently another day on the trip they hit and killed a little boy--she thought that the spirit was trying to kill her, not the little boy.) She was a sick tormented puppy who was probably relieved to die. I just can't believe no one in her life cared enough about her to save her either.

Aah, so we're just back to Darwin then. Good eye, madam.

Look you dumbass bastard. go back to hell where you came from!
A drug-addled financially bankrupt arsonist psychobitch died while driving recklessly without a seatbelt in a van filled with other people, in an attempt to escape the spirit that was trying to kill her.
Yes, a true tragedy. Just when she was getting her life together.
Yep, it was an act of God - to get her to stop killing kids!
As somebody already noted, about three weeks earlier a vehicle bearing Lopes had caused the death of a 10-year old Honduran youngster.
But wait, there's more. In 1993, a 10-month-old boy died from head injuries suffered when his mother leapt with him from a car rolling down a hill. Lopes had parked her BMW outside a house in Atlanta and taken the keys with her when she went into the home. While waiting in the car, the child's mother had turned to tend to her son, who was in a infant carrier in the back seat. The woman inadvertently knocked the car out of gear, sending it coasting down a hill. Although she managed to get the baby free of the seat and get out of the moving vehicle with him, the leap from a moving car resulted in blunt head trauma for the infant who later died in hospital of his injuries. No one was charged in the accident.
Sure, they were accidents, but exactly how many innocent children was this evil demonchick going to kill? The Hand of God gave her a well-deserved swat, and good riddance.
Has anyone noticed that she's wearing a pink pyjama in the cascet while she's not wearing it in the car??? I doubt that anyone would put a pyjama on a corpse...

=====================================
Um, Why would they bury her in the clothes she died in and bled all over? Think before you comment please.
You people shouldn't be so mean to her! She was confused, but also talented and very young! I bet she would have done wonderful things with her life if she had lived.
Now can somebody tell me why I always smell sourdough when I'm changing my panties? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
You know, I'm sick of hearing about this shit. She's dead and TuPac is dead too. So is Elvis, Hendrix, and Jim Morrison. Get the hell over it and move on with life. There are LIVING artists who need money and attention. And quit showing this crap on T.V. and quit making "new" records by these artists. If the rap industry had their way, they'd freakin' re-animate TuPac and Left-Eye to create some sort of messed up "zombie-rap."
this footage reminds me of something that has always bothered me about "reality tv". whose bright idea was it to start filming/interviewing people while they are driving? was there seriously NO other time available for a sit down interview? most people can't drive undistracted with both hands on the wheel. what makes anyone think they'll do better with a camera in their face?
I thought the video ended ubruptly early. I bet the complete video keeps running while hitting the trees and after the crash. This one ends before they get to the trees.
in response to: i had read somewhere that there was actually MORE to the video, but the family didn't want that much shown. this is as much as they would allow.
In the video I saw, it kept running until the van finished flipping and landed rightside-up, with all the occupants (except Lisa) sitting there with their heads bobbing like crazy. I figured they were on the phone yelling at their boyfriends.
I can't believe how racist some of these users are on this site!!! Appauling. Whatever she did before she died sure doesn't matter now. Let the woman rest in peace.
she was loaded in that video just look at her if she wouldnt have passed that tin back for those girls to roll up another doobie she might not be dead right now
tell me ....why are we being reminded of this messed up chick again?
clearly a lot of you have never seen someone close to you die. clearly you don't know what it's like to bring yourself back from a place where something like setting a small fire in a bathtub seems like a good way to blow off some steam. it's obvious none of you appreciate the fact that this girl was truly working on herself, quietly. did she check into promises? no. did she take her stylists and massage therapists and assistant with her to honduras? no. she quietly went away to figure it all out. and at a peaceful moment on the road with her friends, she died. A person died and that should be enough for all of you to take a moment and just. be. quiet.
Lisa was wearing a lap belt. In the video you can see she saw something in the road & tried to avoid it. Maybe it was the spirit who knows. I believe in such things. My opinion of the entire video was... She knew she was going to die & was on her trip preparing for it.
cmon...she was STONED...it's obvious. let's celebrate it!

I can't for the life of me understand how so many people can be so derrogative and ill-minded about another human being who lived and breathed on this earth. Whether she made mistakes, killed anyone, drunk too much, or whatever the case, she had a right to live just as much as anyone who posts these disgusting postings. As I was told before, one mistake or sin is never bigger than another. So while you keep sinning every day and get a chance to walk outside and see the damn sun, Lisa will never get that chance. To clean up all of the rumors (five years later), she was wearing a seat belt (it was a lap belt). She was the only one wearing a belt. The car was not swerving and ducking other cars, she lost control after passing the box. I honestly know in my heart that she was not high; who in their right mind would think that of someone in their final moments of life. I'll tell you who; people with no home-training. The same people who get the nerves to write such vulgar things about a visionary such as Lisa Lopes are the same ones who we blame for school shootings, rapes, and murder because their parents haven't taught them how to distinguish good humor from unfavorable behavior. GROW UP PEOPLE!
"It's too bad the van did not burst into flames..." "She was a f*cked up b*itch..." Many of these postings reflect the sad, sick state of our nation. Instead of typing letters to congressmen or protesting the war in Iraq or demanding that public schools recieve more funding by any means necessary, you write about a woman you never even knew as though you did. Hiding behind screens will typing obscene things. Many of you should be absolutely embarrassed. And you call yourselves human beings. I liken you to animals. You people who wrote nasty things about Ms. Lopes are the reason I firmly believe in the de-evolution of man. I refer you to the golden rule. If your mom, daughter or sister had been killed, regardless of who was at fault, would you want people saying some of the things about them that many of you have said about Ms. Lopes? The alarm clock is going off. Wake up people.
Hey Danielle, Give your self-righteous judgmental bullshit a rest. This is not ILoveEveryoneAllTheTime.com. Maybe you should go do something good for someone instead of reading gossip blogs and chastising people who don't give a rat's ass what you think.
As an English teacher part of my job is to stay "current" and check websites for kids who believe everything they read on the net. I do not believe everyone who typed nasty comments meant them, for many of us go for the "wow" factor. As for doing something good - I teach. Enough said. One of my teaching philosophies is "If I can change just one..." I may not have reached you, but someone who read what I wrote will no longer type vulgarities about someone they never knew, while simultaneously killing "The Mockingbird". God Bless you. God Bless Ms. Lopes.
Hey Nekole, If you are really an English teacher, maybe you should correct how retarded you spell your name. Wait, let me guess... you are "of color" and your "special" way of spelling your name reflects the diversity blah blah blah. Good luck teaching the inner city youth of America. Hint: You should give up.
I can't wait for your forced 9th grade literary reference in retort.
Remember, arguing on the internet is like competing in the Special Olympics. Even if you win, you are still retarded.
Arguing sounds so, dare I say negative. I prefer typed dialogue. But like many of the great philosophers said, there is no arguing with ignorance, and you, my lowly "Invisble Man" are actively, blissfully ignorant. Or are you? "Of color" "Retarded" "Special" way of spelling your name..." Sorry about your dysfunctional upbringing as it no doubt explains your pitiful adolescence. And by the by "Ghost" or "The Illusioned One", that "literary reference" is what we 9th Grade English teachers refer to as an allusion. PS - We are all "of color". I will be printing this off for my kids to read. We'd love to have you come in call some of them retarded. Great role model material. Alliteration.

beautiful, talented and still-provocative artist
Yeah, right. Everybody turns up like that immediately after dying. Imagine Fuggie dying today (we wish). She would be instaly promoted to this same level when we all know it's BS in both cases.
By anonymous, on May 23, 2007 09:04:15
By anonymous, on May 23, 2007 09:17:25
Lisa, she had both hands on the wheel and the video clearly shows she jerked it to the left. It looks likemsomething was in the road and she turned too fast to be able to correct. Either that or she was sucidal. I didn't watch the special... why Honduras anyway? And let's be honest, if she were alive, this conversation WOULD be about a batshit celebrity arsonist.
By Kacky, on May 23, 2007 09:21:47

By anonymous, on May 23, 2007 10:39:09
Pretty sad

By anonymous, on May 23, 2007 11:48:40
I read that she was thrown from the car and had a seatbelt on which is really odd. From the video, theres no belt across her chest. And everyone else survived which is also odd, I doubt they all had seatbelts on. Im sure one of the passengers saw what caused the crash.
ps. I didnt even know who she was.
By anonymous, on May 23, 2007 11:56:00
I think she was "Lisa", the token blk chick on Saved By the Bell. Right?
By anonymous, on May 23, 2007 12:01:31
It looks like she decided to kill herself and tried to take those others with her. She way overswerved to avoid whatever was in the road, and for the crash to have been that severe, she might even have kept her foot to the metal while the car was crashing.
By anonymous, on May 23, 2007 12:02:11
This is what I found:
By anonymous, on May 23, 2007 12:02:15

By Tom's Future Prison Rapist, on May 23, 2007 12:53:14

By Linda, on May 23, 2007 12:57:20
By anonymous, on May 23, 2007 13:00:10
She had a drug-fueled hallucination and swerved to avoid it. Is that so hard to believe? I mean, she was insane BEFORE she started taking drugs...

By Angela, on May 23, 2007 13:28:44
The Hand of God gave her a well-deserved swat, and good riddance.

clearly a lot of you have never seen someone close to you die. clearly you don't know what it's like to bring yourself back from a place where something like setting a small fire in a bathtub seems like a good way to blow off some steam. it's obvious none of you appreciate the fact that this girl was truly working on herself, quietly. did she check into promises? no. did she take her stylists and massage therapists and assistant with her to honduras? no. she quietly went away to figure it all out. and at a peaceful moment on the road with her friends, she died. A person died and that should be enough for all of you to take a moment and just. be. quiet.

Hey Danielle,
Give your self-righteous judgmental bullshit a rest. This is not ILoveEveryoneAllTheTime.com. Maybe you should go do something good for someone instead of reading gossip blogs and chastising people who don't give a rat's ass what you think.

Mr./Ms. Ghost,
As an English teacher part of my job is to stay "current" and check websites for kids who believe everything they read on the net. Lopes.

Hey Nekole,
If you are really an English teacher, maybe you should correct how retarded you spell your name.
By Left Eye's Ghost, on June 12, 2007 19:33:11
