Cameron Diaz is Offensive

  1. Okay...when you're buying something that has a phrase on it, written in a language that is not your own, don't you ask what it means before you buy it? If she actually purchased it IN China, there is no excuse for her to not ask SOMEBODY what the phrase meant...there were millions of people she could have asked.

Anyway, her decline is kind of sad. Remember the 90s when she was this hot, up-and-coming, funny ex-model turned actress who actually had some promise? It's like the Jessica Simpson disease...admittedly, Cameron is far more talented than Jessica...but it's like "oh...that's so cool...she's pretty but she also farts...she's a regular kind of gal!" Then you realize she's high maintenance as hell and her boyish charm goes a little too far when she writes a far too detailed book about giving birth. Thanks, Jenny McCarthy...you started this mess.

  2. What an idiot. It's not that it offended the locals so much as why you'd buy a Mao bag at all. Ummm, hello? Why not swastikas you dumb ugly ho?

  3. Machu Picchu? Someone must have invited her there with the intention to rip out her heart and sacrifice it to the Gods to stop global warming or some shit like that. Wonder how long it took them to figure out she's heartless?

  4. Eh. I know it's fashionable to shit on her here, but fuck the Peruvians for shoving cameras up her ass and then complaining when they don't like the writing on her bag.
People are way too sensitive about crap that happened in the past. Get the fuck over it.

  5. People! It wasnt the bag.

The press was speaking about the ugly leather bag she was carring on her face. It was offensive to the locals as to "why she would want to cover her face with such an ugly goat-skin haggered bag". Because the scenery is so beautiful, they love llamas and plus...it scared the children into beleiving the dead can raise out of the grave.
But since all that got lost in transilation, and a game of telephone later...well, people where confused and "asumed" it was the bag she was carring around her shoulders.
She still offends me. She reminds me of ostrich skin bags. With all those pimple scars. Yuck!
Cameron, please dont go to my Colombian country. People might really mistake you as a "drug-mule" and use you for hard field labor.

  6. I begin to realize that most of the people who are offended are people from 3rd world countries. Let's see, the Mexicans were offended by apocalypto, Iranians were offended by 300, now it's Peru. We have seen so many world war 2 movies, video games and Germans just don't care. Kudos to the Germans.

  7. I'm loathe to defend Ms. Diaz because I find her incredibly annoying, but given that she's not exactly renouned for her intellect, I'm pretty sure the last thing she thought would offend anybody in Peru is a bag she bought on the other side of the world. That said, I do find it really annoying when people sport symbols like that with no idea of their meaning.

It's like people who use the word karma thinking it's a super lovey hippy happy spiritual thing when really it's a pretty harsh theory that basically says that all of the terrible thing people have had inflicted upon them are things they have brought upon themselves in a past life. But I digress...

  8. Why can't they ever release a worthwhile statement when they screw up? Take a page from Hugh Grant and just way, "Wow, had no idea. I'm an idiot, sorry."

  9. Psst, hey Cammy... Wanna know what the next big fashion trend will be? Swastika armbands...Better get your stylists on it now before everyone does it!
Oh, and those bedsheets with the eyeholes cut out?
Those are just ghost costumes. Seriously. Would I lie to you?

  10. I'm not a fan of hers (my mom is for some reason) - I think she looks like the Joker from the Batman movies and I do find her kind of annoying - but I won't blame her for the damn bag. She bought a bag she thought looked cool and it happened to have some shit written on it. It's not like she (or most people for that matter) is a history buff or anything. Let's cut her some slack on this.

  11. Nothing like supporting a brutal communist dictator on "accident". I know it's cool when a communist goes around killing people they don't agree with, but when America does it, we're bad.

Yeah; not like you can expect anybody besides a "history buff" to know obscure little facts like that between Mao's Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution, which are still in living memory for a large portion of the population, somewhere between 20 and 50 million people of his people got killed or starved to death. Communism killed and brutalized more people in the 20th Century than fascism, yet Maoist symbols and Che T-shirts are trendy fashion accessories now, at least among rich Hollywood types who never actually came in close contact with Communism.

If that little pustule Zach De La Rocha ever gets his ass kicked by someone whose relatives were killed by the Red Guards or by Zach's beloved Shining Path guerrillas, I hope IDLYITW gets the photos.

  13. "They always stop me outside to talk about the evil American empire, but that usually ends up with them asking me for a ride to the store and wondering if I know anyone who's hiring."

and so what?you think you're right just because you're richer?that's exactly what they're talking about.remember that what goes around comes around...

    By anonymous, on June 25, 2007 12:58:05

  14. No, Todd meant stop fucking sitting on your ass and complaining, and go out and get a job. If you don't have any work ethic and hate America then fuck off and LEAVE!

  15. What a dumb broad....never buy anything that you dont understand. Thats just like getting a Tattoo with chinese letters and you cant speak chinese. There is not telling what it might say...

  17. If the Incas were still around they would have used Cameron as their next human sacrifice and played bowling with her decapitated head. Damn, I miss the Incas.

Please dont say it like that. I like Che AND everything his guerillas stood for. But to say it like Anna Nicole Smith said "trim spa baby!" just makes it sound wrong. Luv ur show!

  21. I just read "Wild Swans", a book about three generations of Woman living in China in the 20th century.

The "Great Leap Forward" and the "Cultural Revolution" were two of the worst things I have ever read about. It was all about Emperor's Mao's ego. The Great Leap forward showed how much of a moron he was and the Cultural Revolution was him taking revenge on anyone smarter than he was.

"serve the people" is the most hypocritical quote of the 20th century. Mao was indifferent than any of the Fat, arrogant, and abusive emperors in the past 2,000 years of China.

  22. Communism has only killed over a 100 million people. Let's give it another chance!

    By anonymous, on June 25, 2007 18:52:23

  23. I´m from Peru and she didn´t offend anybody because we don´t speak chinese. The press is making it appear like a big deal but it´s not.

  28. that's what happens as such people have no real knowledge whatsoever

    By Andrew, on June 26, 2007 09:29:13

  29. First off, I doubt it even occurred to her that the symbols on that bag where anything but cute pictures. She bought the bag because she thought it was neat. Even if she had found out what it translated to, how would that have any significance to her? It still would not mean enough to make her realize that someone else in another country might interpret it as an insult. The fact that someone took insult to something that was never intended as such is disgusting - people need to get off their high horses and grow up. If you do find something like that insulting, mention it, and explain why. That is how real decent people deal with each other.

  30. "The fact that someone took insult to something that was never intended as such is disgusting - people need to get off their high horses and grow up."

Okay, I'll bust out my "Go Osama!" shirt and see how you react to that...

What? I never meant any offense! It's a cute shirt!

(and yes, I am an American, so don't even start.)

    By anonymous, on June 26, 2007 19:48:04

  31. ok so she didnt get it. But what about her Peruvian entourage/manager/assistants. I mean did no one see anything and tell her about it.
