That is completely false. I'm a vet.tech and I used to work with a vet. who worked for the Animal Protection League. Our practice did a lot of local cruely case work and that vet in particular travelled to testify as an expert witness in cases across the country. Working with those people was a depressing eye-opener on the legal system and animal cruelty. The legal punishment for animal abuse is quite often a slap on the wrist. Vick's probably going to get fines. Even with as many dogs as he abused and murdered, with his plea deal and the way the system views animals as property and not sentient beings with rights, he will more than likely not do any jail time and not have any fines he can not afford. With the money he has made playing football, he will walk, pay some fines, and that will be it, I suspect. I think that is the bullshit here.
He may lose his endorsement and football contracts because no one wants to be associated with a violent asshole exhibiting behaviors that precede serial killings: maiming and killing animals. No business person in their right mind would want to associate with Vick. He is expendable. He isn't curing cancer or exploring theoretical astrophysics. I am quite disturbed by the emphasis placed on the consequences of Vick's illegal acts and how those consequences are supposed to somehow figure into Michael Vick's knowledge of the illegality of his actions. I'm a white woman and I guarantee if I start going around and punching people's dogs in the face--not causing fatal injuries--; I'll get thrown in jail. It is not a race thing. I think it is sad that many black people are seemingly supporting Vick because they feel an obligation to do so…not because they think his actions were acceptable.
It's not about race...it's about what he did. It's also not about fame. Where I grew up, a white couple fought dogs in their apartment once (that was reported anyway) and they are both in jail. If you don't want something to be about race, don't make it about race. If you look at the facts objectively, Michael Vick at the very least was aware that he was committing immoral acts on a large scale. The young female celebs who keep driving drunk are risking human lives, yet they only get a slap on the wrist. Athletes are arrested all the time for domestic violence, yet there is very little outrage. I love dogs and there is no excuse for what Vick did, but if you're more outraged about that than about domestic violence and drunk driving, I think it's time to reevaluate your priorities.

Also, you don't have to show intent or malice to prosecute for either DUI or domestic violence (battery). [well, actually you do have to prove some intent, but it only has to be intent to perform the action that led to the crime, i.e. intent to swing a fist. Showing intent to hit a person is not necessary to convict on battery. DUI on the other hand is a strict liability offense, i.e. you don't have to show ANY intent or malice, just prove that the action occurred.] The person above that said you have to show either doesn't have a clue what they're talking about.

That is completely false. I'm a vet.tech and I used to work with a vet. who worked for the Animal Protection League. Our practice did a lot of local cruely case work and that vet in particular travelled to testify as an expert witness in cases across the country. Working with those people was a depressing eye-opener on the legal system and animal cruelty. The legal punishment for animal abuse is quite often a slap on the wrist. Vick's probably going to get fines. Even with as many dogs as he abused and murdered, with his plea deal and the way the system views animals as property and not sentient beings with rights, he will more than likely not do any jail time and not have any fines he can not afford. With the money he has made playing football, he will walk, pay some fines, and that will be it, I suspect. I think that is the bullshit here.

I am a fan of jamie foxx's and a black person but i can honestly say that i don't support him here.this should not be about race but rather about the stupidity of vick's actions.He screwed up and we should admit when our brothas and sistas do that.
