• Anon 13:21, yeah, I'm one of those "Poor Brit" people. But I knew she was hooked on something, and I don't mean phonics. Just because she's on drugs and not ONLY mentally fucked doesn't mean she shouldn't have sympathy. Lots of people with mental problems self-medicate, push away help, and are terrified of actually having to give up the self-medication to TRUST someone else to cure them. The idea of completely releasing control to a doctor is scary to anyone, I think. Now imagine the paranoia that comes with mental illness and drug use. It's fucking sad as hell.
  
  But maybe compassion comes from experience. I watched someone I love go through almost the exact same thing (sans papparazzi, mind you!). He had been diagnosed with various illnesses, his medication was switched too often while they tried to figure it out, and meanwhile, he found an illegal combo that worked great to ease anxiety, bring his mood up, and let him sleep at night. Much better than the meds that docs kept switching up. His combo worked great, for a while, just like all junkies, and then he lost everything: his wife, a great job that he loved, his kids, and his family. Now he's clean, on meds for bipolar, and cries constantly about what he lost during the time he was unreachable. And by the by, many mental illnesses begin to manifest symptoms in the 20's.

• One of the reasons meth is popular is because it doesn't stay in your system long - it's not hard to pass a drug test when you're on meth. I know tons of addicts that figure out how to get around tests for months, but it always catches up with you. It's usually the behavior and not the drug tests that suggest meth. (I work in juvie court and see lots of drug addicted parents - like Britney!).

  In my humble opinion, Britney's financial and social status make it ridiculous to compare her to people who have faced addiction problems and mental illness who also raise a family, work and pay bills in blue collar America. I know personally how difficult it can be to even pay for one visit with a psychiatrist, none the less long term treatment, specifically in my case concerning eating disorder rehabilitation. The sad truth is Brit has had every resource available to her to get help for both her mental and addition problems. As someone who has sought out the limelight consistently her whole life, and has reaped massive benefits from promoting herself as first a role model for young tweens and later as a mother, it is completely unconscionable for her to allow herself to become so out of control she is forced legally into treatment. She reminds me of the three little rich girls I met in treatment who truly believed that they were completely entitled to abuse and manipulate everyone and everything around them to get what they wanted. They, just like Britney, were told by the staff that they should hold themselves accountable for the effects of their actions. Certainly the only girl out of that motley crew that was able to achieve a state of recovery learned that she had to take responsibility for her desires and her decisions. I don't think repeating, "Poor Brit," over and over again helps that message come across at all.

• I would agree that, if she really did not sleep for several days, she was probably on meth/speed. I have tried it before (unfortunately), and you absolutely cannot sleep for days. Also, it often makes you psychotic with long term usage. You become suspicious of everyone and think everyone is out to get you. Meth is a terrible drug.
