It's always upsetting when someone you know or know of dies. I've found it shocking and disturbing when people I went to school with died, even if I didn't know them personally.
Even when you've never met a person, to see them and know something about them is enough to cause a real blow to your sense of normalcy when they die unexpectedly. Heath Ledger was one of those actors you thought would be around for years to come. I thought he would be working into his 60s and 70s. He could have been, too. He was low-key and talented, and didn't make a spectacle of himself like so many of those transient actors who will be nowhere to be found this time next year.
As celebrities go, he was one of the few young actors who you felt you could enjoy watching. He actually came across as a decent human being, not so much of an ego-maniac as some other celebs. I appreciated his presence in hollywood and hate that he's gone now. Brad Renfro died on the 15th, but no one really reported it. He was a phenomenal actor as well. May they both rest in peace.

I wonder what the rate of suicide is in Hollywood as compared to the rest of the country. It seems so much higher, as does the percentage of people being devoured by their addictions or in recovery from them. They seem overprivileged with the level of media attention and money they get, but it's obviously not helping them any on a personal level.

Some people are just weak in general and depression can push them even more into isolation and from there to the drugs is just a short distance. I have suffered alot and I'm not going to get into the details of it all but there were times where I wish my heart and brain were ripped out of my body to not feel any pain but I managed to survived without ever touching a drink or drugs.

All ive heard was that there was sleeping pills next to him. If it was an overdose, I couldve just been an accidental one. No proof that he was ever a drug user. Anybody reading this who suffers from depression understands how someone so "talented, lucky, a dad, etc." could take his own life. Depression is an illness, a terrible, horrible illness. There is no "choice" involved. Those of you who don't suffer from this illness, please try to remember that you are truly blessed, and show the same compassion for someone who commits suicide as you would anyone with any other chronic illness. A depressed or bipolar person can no more "be strong" and "hold it together" than an ALS patient can run a marathon. And if you don't buy that, then go fuck yourself.

I can only add my shock and condelences to this tragic news. It is a devastating warning to those who want to become actors; there is so much more than fame and fortune in becoming famous and realizing your dreams as an actor. There are consequences as well.
I'm pretty saddened by this. One of the very few male actors in Hollywood who seemed really down to earth. Only an OK actor, but a very cool guy. I absolutely loved A Knight's Tale... one of the most enjoyable movies I've seen in a long, long, time. He and Shannyn and the rest of the cast were just a joy to watch.

Ledger is a tragic soul. He sacrificed advantage and privilege for the indulgence of booze and narcotic. Unlike the cancer patient who faces a snarling lion of a disease with courage, Ledger poisoned himself with mind numbing drugs and passed into the great beyond lowly and without his boots on.
A man who dies naked on the floor at a young age should not be celebrated. He should be pitied and his tragic death should be a lesson that all glory is fleeting.

It's always upsetting when someone you know or know of dies. I've found it shocking and disturbing when people I went to school with died, even if I didn't know them personally.
Even when you've never met a person, to see them and know something about them is enough to cause a real blow to your sense of normalcy when they die unexpectedly. Heath Ledger was one of those actors you thought would be around for years to come. I thought he would be working into his 60s and 70s. He could have been, too. He was low-key and talented, and didn't make a spectacle of himself like so many of those transient actors who will be nowhere to be found this time next year.
As celebrities go, he was one of the few young actors who you felt you could enjoy watching. He actually came across as a decent human being, not so much of an ego-maniac as some other celebs. I appreciated his presence in hollywood and hate that he's gone now.
Brad Renfro died on the 15th, but no one really reported it. He was a phenomenal actor as well.

I am shocked just like all of you. I litterally screamed when I saw it on the news. Honestly though from what Ive heard so far nothing has proved that he was doing drugs or that it was an overdose. All ive heard was that there was sleeping pills next to him. If it was an overdose, I couldve just been an accidental one. No proof that he was ever a drug user. Im not saying he didnt use drugs, im just saying there is absolutely nothing from what ive heard that proves that. They didnt find cocaine by his body, just sleeping pills. I'm pretty saddened by this. One of the very few male actors in Hollywood who seemed really down to earth. Only an OK actor, but a very cool guy. I absolutely loved A Knight's Tale... one of the most enjoyable movies I've seen in a long, long, time. He and Shannyn and the rest of the cast were just a joy to watch.
The question I have to all of you is... if we're coming down hard on Amy Winehouse, then why not Heath Ledger? Aren't we hypocrites here? If Amy overdosed and died, would we feel sorry for her?
