I adore him as an actor, but the constant reports of him being just a pretty damn good person on all levels really impress me. He never does this shit for photo-ops or champions a 'cause', and I love him for it.
This guy is a class act. The fact that he did it shows he's got a heart; the fact that he did it & didn't tell anyone else about it (particularly anyone in publicity, figuring it was a private matter) makes it even more classy. As I remember, there was another post on this website, where he visited a kids hospital dressed as Jack Sparrow; he had his costume specially flown in from Hollywood at his own expense. I just wish that his classy & charitable gesture was the rule & not the exception in Hollywood.
BTW, (and I know the 1st poster was being sarcastic), Johnny Depp never said that he hated America or freedom. He said that America is a young country (when compared to European countries); sometimes we do the right thing, sometimes we make mistakes. Which is true. He also said he loves his country. Which the right wingers always seem to conveniently forget he said...
It's a nice thing of him to do, but obviously someone in his camp is leaking the story for free publicity. Someone wants the story all over the internet to make him look good.
I perform miracles everyday: I tolerate my stupid co-workers, intentionally brake when people walk in front of my car, and can look at my sexy self in the mirror 20-25 times a day and resist the urge to kiss it or masturbate.
BAM! REJECTED! Don't bring that WEAK voice-message-to-revive-otherwise-comatose-girl in here Depp!
"Johnny Depp secretly visited Great Ormond Street Hospital yesterday to donate $2 million of his own money to thank staff for saving his daughter's life. He arrived unexpectedly at the London children's hospital where eight-year-old Lily-Rose was treated last year when her kidneys failed. Last week he invited five Great Ormond Street doctors and nurses to the party for the London premiere of his film Sweeney Todd. And on November 29, unknown to the public, Depp spent four hours at the hospital telling bedtime stories to patients dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow after having his Pirates Of The Caribbean costume flown over from Los Angeles."
This guy has obviously got his priorities right. Notice the phrases "secretly" & "unknown to the public"; he's NOT doing it for the publicity, unlike all the arrogant, self absorbed hollywood types (do you hear me, Paris Hilton?); his actions prove what absolute jerks people like paris & lindsay & karTRASHian truly are. Cool guy...
See, this is the kind of thing your typical celebrity can do while getting a colonic or Bulgarian virgin urine injected into their faces, or even while getting their makeup done for yet another night out at a club.
Compared to most celebrities, he's not a total waste of space.
I don't know, he seems waaaaaaay too much into kids. I'm certain that in time, a long history of pedophilia will be uncovered.
By anonymous, on March 25, 2008 10:18:18 ---------------------------------------- Nope, it's called being a parent, DUMBASS; you become very attuned to the plights of other parent's kids. Any pedophilia is strictly yours...
Interesting how vitriol is free-flying regarding every other celebrity on this website except for Johnny Depp. I say canonize the guy! Heck, let's just skip over the insignificant stuff and just make him GOD.
I don't know if anyone remembers these reports, as they were maybe ten or so years ago, but Tom Cruise had two or three seperate incidents of assisting strangers in distress. It wasn't as obvious then as it is now, but that guy was so doing it for the press. And lately he has dragged Katie Holmes into it: http://www.hecklerspray.com/tom-cruise-rescues-helpless-car-wreck-couple/20064436.php Cruise = tacky and fake. Depp = classy and real.
I'd heard of one or two and remember ET or one of those news magazines running the stories. I didn't realize he'd been attempting this resuce spin for so long. It's convenient for all those folks that Cruise happened to be nearby. I've never run into that many people in dire need of rescue, how about you?
I was walking behind this really old lady in a grocery store parking lot this one time, and the poor thing could barely push her cart. I didn't want her to feel like she was slowing me down, so I walked around her really fast. She yelled something at me, probably a thank you, but I don't have time for glory and congratulations. The world is big, and my work is not yet done.
that...cracked my shit up. and 10:18:18 you're dumb.
If I wrote to him about the trouble I'm having housebreaking the dog but used "child" in place of "dog", and that there was this professional housebreaking service--for children--but it was pricey and all, and the whole thing was impeding my dog-erm, I mean, child's emotional and spiritual growth, plus my child was still not walking properly on a leash and continues to steal underpants and rummage through the trash, would he send money, do you think? I mean, it's a child, after all.
Damn you, Johnny Depp! I mean, I love the guy to ribbons. I'm in awe of him in so many ways. The trouble with Johnny Depp is that he keeps doing all this stuff that makes me feel like like a colossal sack of self-involved, head-up-my-ass, semi-repugnant bilge. But I could live with that if this dog situation were to get resolved. I think I have some perfumed stationery lying around here somewhere.
God bless Johnny Depp for his kindness to complete strangers, and for his humility in not self-promoting his good works to the press. His is an example to follow--too bad the rest of Hollywood is shitty.
Depp doesn't need his PR people to feed this stuff. He's already famous enough and is reclusive. He doesn't want more attention, he's just a nice guy who cares about kids. That's what happens when you become a GOOD parent.
I think it's great that he does all these things without publicity, I am sure he's probably done tons more. My guess is someone associated with the family leaked it to the press (not in a bad way). I didn't like the America puppy comment, but I never felt anything negative toward JD or that he hated his country. Unlike, say, Sean Penn.
Very nice of JD, but the other question is: why all the die-hard POTC fans? The first one was OK, but that's about it. The last one was so bad it became something else. Like a social experiment on film audiences and their capacity for ingesting shit.
An artist of noble heart, surviving amongst the throngs of self-obsessed, insecure and egocentric narcissists in Hollywood. I hope he's finding what makes him happy in life--he's one of the few that truly deserves it.
i've always found depp's talent so intimidating that i can't really bear to think about him for very long. his face is flawlessly beautiful and his heart is apparently golden, but it's his talent that has always really gotten me. even his name - johnny - is one i consider the coolest a dude can possibly have.
the sum of it is that despite the fact that these qualities make most women melt into puddles of goo for him, they make me almost dislike him. stories like this make me intensely uncomfortable.
i think what it is, is envy. thing is, i can't figure out if it's envy because i'm not the one fucking him, or if it's envy that i'm not *him*.
honestly, i think it's closer to the latter.
one thing i do know is that if i WERE johnny depp, i'd never leave my house because i'd be too busy staring at myself in the mirror, watching myself in my movies, and sucking my own cock.
I work in Chicago at Orlando Auto Glass. We are currently working on the cars used in this movie. We are re-upholstering the inside, and doing the auto glass that needs to be done for the movie. We are also doing some minor work, providing and cutting mirrors for a movie called the Unborn. . . . have no idea what it is about
Only what I'd expect. He seems like a very genuine guy who honestly does love people, and especially kids. Yep, I've met him and he couldn't have been nicer. And it's interesting that the media haven't been able to dig any dirt, isn't it?
Oh yeah, and if I am ever in a coma, my friends have instructions.

We are the world, we are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So lets start giving
Hahaha...as if. At least in the U.S., parents don't even try to teach their kids to share. And note that the song was written by Michael Jackson.

And yeah, totally classy.
