Affirmative action is not supposed to give minorities jobs if they are not qualified. The idea is that some people will deny qualified people employment and opportunities because they are black. So it's really supposed to help create equal opportunity for people with credentials, but somehow this got lost in practice and undeserving people get the benefits. I think AA is a good idea, but has been practiced unfairly and needs to be addressed.

anonymous 18:01:33, that's actually what I was trying to get at, that I don't let the actions of SOME racist white people dictate my view of all white people. Why do you assume I live in a ghetto? Why do you feel that I'm acting like a victim? I'm not trying to make you feel responsible for anything, and in fact I was sharing my perspective because I would hate for things to get to the point where white people blame all of us black people for the racism of a select group of people. I don't think ANY group of people, black or white, should as a whole feel responsible for the actions of a few (and by "few" I mean in proportion to the entire population). Like I said, while I can understand complaints on both sides, I'm trying to show you that many of us DON'T try to hold you responsible or be victims. There's racism on both sides, but for the most part, most of us are just trying to do right by others and make a good living. Was I unclear in what I was trying to state?

Oh, and just to add, the "ghetto area" where I experienced the racism was actually a private school in a very affluent suburb. I don't live near there, but I also don't live in a ghetto or slum or wherever you may believe I live. Just wanted to clarify ;)

I am white and I was told once, 10 years ago, that they had to give the job that I applied for to a Black Man who is less qualified than I was because of Affirmative Action.
Hell, now thinking back I shoulda sued them in Federal Court for Racism and Discrimination.

Actually, the term racism has been misused to characterize egregious, unacceptable behaviour. I prefer the words ignorant, un-educated, un-socialized. Find an ignorant, un-educated, person who lacks basic socialization skills and I guarantee you, you will see behavior and hear conversations that equate to what is labeled as racism. If Ms. Campbell said those words, just think of her as a highly paid ignorant, un-educated woman without social skills.

Affirmative action is not supposed to give minorities jobs if they are not qualified. The idea is that some people will deny qualified people employment and opportunities because they are black. So it's really supposed to help create equal opportunity for people with credentials, but somehow this got lost in practice and undeserving people get the benefits. I think AA is a good idea, but has been practiced unfairly and needs to be addressed.
