Aw man! Bill Murray's been number one on my Hot Pepaw List since Lost In Translation, but this...this kinda kills that. There's nothing sexy about a substance abusing wife beater (no offense to any IDLYITW readers who might fit that description :p). Chris Noth, how does it feel to be numero uno?
Abuse is no joking matter. We do not know what goes on behind closed doors whether a movie star or not. I'm amazed that this woman has put up with it for so long. Kudos to her for finally getting the hell out and away from him.
Sounds like a bitter ex trying to run a smear job. And hey, maybe she was mouthy and needed to get smacked around from time to time. I kid, I kid. I love Bill, so this doesn't change my opinion of him in the slightest.
10:09:41 - I'm not saying her side of the story is or isn't true, but don't you think it's rather premature to just assume that whatever somebody in the middle of what is obviously a bitter divorce say is the truth? You've already made up your mind going by a blurb on a gossip site. Sad.
Is anyone shocked by this? Chances are that if she went public with charges like these, they're probably true and she probably has proof. Otherwise she would perjure herself when testifying about. Love him as an actor, but he has ALWAYS seemed like he has an enormous egos and people with enormous egos think they can get away with anything.
Gold digger?! Married for 10 years and they have 4 kids. Also, iron clad prenup. Try again.
of course you can be addicted to pot, people can be addicted to anything ie: food, gambling, shopping, booze, cigarettes, etc...why would pot be any different? bill murray, like all celebrities, is likely a freak and a self-absorbed asshole, so i am not shocked by these allegations.
I'm a divorce attorney and I can't tell you how many times restraining orders get filed and allegations of abuse start flying from out of the blue when things get nasty. Sorry, but I see women using these tactics all the time against my male clients. Every single one so far has been dropped or dismissed for lack of evidence. Whenever I hear wives start crying abuse during a divorce, I get suspicious. Sorry. And for the record, I'm a chick.
The fact that she hyphenates her name leads me to believe that the marriage was somewhat superficial to begin with. A woman, any woman, will adopt the most ridiculous surnames known to man if she loves a man enough. However couples nowadays, especially among the so-called "elite" are resembling business partnerships more and more.
And now, TEN years down the line, allegations limited to only the most abusive husbands suddenly "spill out". If she had valued her marriage, why had she not utilized their ample time together to seek counselling for his alleged drug habit, sexcapades, and angry behavior? Did she not love Bill enough to get him the help he apparently needs?
I would be interested to see the damages and alimony sought by the ex, and the conditions of the prenup, should one exist. I would also like to wait and see if the allegations against Bill ring true.
Though I guess it doesn't matter, because the damage against Bill is already done.
"The funny part is that she married him BECAUSE he loves sex, booze, and drugs. Unfortunately, she's the only one who grew up." What you said kind of goes along with the saying that women marry men hoping they WILL change, and men marry women hoping that they WON'T. Sounds like that could be what happened here...
People claim it's a psychological addiction. It's still stupid. Blame the plant and call it bad rather than blaming the person for having no self control. What about over eaters? Candy bars taste good and feel good. You still shouldn't eat them 24 hrs. a day and spend all your money on them. Why not make candy bars illegal since there are so many fat people out there costing us more money in taxes and insurance rate hikes than pot smokers do.
Who cares about him? Keep the Sullivan's Island house and his money and do whatever the fuck you want. I'd rather have the money and that beach home than the divorce! Or maybe the money, the house, and the D!
"Cannabis is sometimes consumed with alcohol, a combination that is additive in its psychomotor effects." That'd be from the world health organisation. Also, it works by activating the same receptors as opiates so not much of a surprise tat it can be addictive.
Of course addictiveness is no reason to ban stuff (otherwise the prohibitionists would have won), it's more about the harm a drug can do...now there's something y'all can argue about for a bit.
People who say they are addicted to Pot are fucktards who have zero self control and should probably just off themselves anyway. What isn't psychological? Holy shit people, take responsibility for your own fucking decisions. I smoke every day, and somehow (in-between my non-stop munchies and black out stupors, of course) manage to be a productive member of society. Marijuana is a fucking plant, and though you should be responsible, it's affects are no different than alcohol, except you avoid the shit that goes with drinking: throwing up, hangover, sleeping with a grotesque individual, etc... Weed doesn't make people aggressive or abusive either.
The world would be much more peaceful if everyone just relaxed and smoked a blunt.
I can believe everything easily, but I doubt that the abuse claim is true. Certain women will say that at the drop of a hat. They think it is just the most awesome dynamite. It's like the boy crying wolf.. they ruin it for the women who are truly being beaten up. As far as I'm concerned, the false-claimers are just as bad as the wife-beaters.
She looks like a little short woman with a high screechy voice who never shut the fuck up so I'd probably do the same thing Bill did. Who is she and how did they meet?
*sigh* Oh, well. I guess I have to not like Groundhog Day anymore, in some solidarity/battered wife/anti-adultery sisterhood crap thingamajig bullshittery. I hate being "supportive".
marijuana is a plant and so is opium...but that doesn't mean it can't harm your body. pot heads get so defensive and angry - funny, because i thought smoking a blunt would calm a person down! guess not.
also, it is a myth that most women make up allegations of abuse. in fact, most women will go out of their way to downplay it or pretend like it didn't happen. restraining orders are easy to obtain because they are meant to provide some sort of immediate protection.
anonymous @ 11:28:12, adopting your husband's surname isn't at all about how much you love them -- what a weird thing to say. It's about your own identity, about your own name and being a person rather than chattel. Plus it's a really personal choice, your name defines who you are and it's up to the individual whether they want to give that up. Name changing in no way equates to how much you love your spouse. I bet you were that "If you loved me, you'd do it" guy in high school. Several men change their surnames to their wife's -- would you do that? If not, would it be because you didn't love your wife enough? Besides, it's not as if women who change their last names are any less likely to divorce. There are maaaaany women who've had to change their last names back.
"I'm not sure how somebody can be addicted to pot"... What? Are you serious? You've never been around chronics who wake & bake, and smoke pot so regularly that they become perma-fried, and start having memory problems? I've seen the decline of several good people from too much pot, like my brother. His memory used to be really good, now, not so much. I remember one long-term pothead couple, who were really nice and fun to be around. After not seeing them for a few years, you couldn't even talk to them, they were constantly dopey-eyed and giggling. It was like they had changed into different people. All because they couldn't be without a joint pretty much all of the time. And sorry folks, pot is a drug as it has mind-altering properties. I don't personally think there's anything wrong with doing drugs, but let's call it what it is. Just because it's from the earth doesn't mean it's good for you. If that were the case, go eat some random mushrooms from the forest and down some deadly nightshade while you're at it. I'd be more in favor of pot if I didn't see how stupid it made people.
To all the prudish posters: Get with the times, people, Bill is no different than any of us. We're all dysfunctional to some degree. Any of you who think otherwise are in denial. Oh yeah, and they SHOULD legalize pot already. The effects of alcohol can be DEADLY (ie. driving drunk) - while pot is illegal and not nearly as harmful. I don't get it.
And I agree with the divorce attorney up there. You hear the strangest things from people who are about to get divorced, especially if there's money involved.
"He slept with my sister!"
"She wears her panties two days in a row. She says it's because her shit doesn't stink."
The fact that his soon-to-be-ex-hyphenated wife made things more public than they should be is quite suspicious. People usually only go around airing their dirty laundry if they think they stand to gain something.
Hey...and Bill Murray is single again? Bonus!
(Did I say that already? Sorry, short term memory loss and all that shit...)
My question is --then why the fuck did she stay with him and have not one, but TWO kids with him!!!!
I can tell you it wasn't about love.
Besides, Bill Murray has had a very much a reputation to being very nasty to people. It hardly comes a shock that he abuses women, drinks and smokes pot.
to the divorce attorney -- it sounds like you are saying that women are more prone to making up stories in a divorce case compared to the husband. so, women are inherently more likely to make up stories and men aren't? men are just sitting there innocently while their big bad wife is trying to take all their money? what a load of bullshit! also, you must not be that busy of a lawyer if you are sitting around posting comments. maybe you will bill your client for the time you spent cruising gossip blogs.
Anonymous 17:57:07 -- abusive relationships are sometimes, well, abusive, and then they go through peaceful patches. it isn't as easy as getting up and leaving. the most dangerous time for a women in such a situation is the point where she tries to leave - that is when abusers escalate the violence as they are about to lose control over the person. obviously we don't know the all the specifics in this case, but everything isn't so black and white.
Marijuana is not a physically addictive drug... it is a mental addiction, thus the stoner who "wakes and bakes" does not physically need to smoke weed to survive and make it through the day. Opiates, like heroin, opium, morphine, and codeine (that are derived from the opium poppy plant) are on the other hand physically addicting. A person that goes without weed for 48 hours will not experience any withdrawal symptoms such as nausea, sleeplessness, fevers, muscle pain, etc. A person that is addicted to opiates on the other hand will experience these symptoms depending on the height of their addiction and the tolerance they have developed during drug use.
A human being can pretty much say that they are "mentally" addicted to anything. I could for example say that I am mentally addicted to my e-mail account because I cannot go the day without checking it. Mental addictions, in this sense, can be unhealthy for a person's lifestyle.
Oh yeah, a woman lie in court? never! women dont perjure themselves.
harhar. how ridiculous and ill informed. I bet people who talk this shit have never been in a courtroom. And women "downplay" abuse. More like scream it from the rooftops to anyone who'll listen. If shes taking shit to the courthouse, trust me, shes ready for people to hear all the shit she can throw. Hell, the Escalade is on the line!!
Have any of you ever been in, known someone or even seen a divorce or custody dispute?
Women are fee to lie in court, as no judge is going to jail a woman for bullshitting about abuse, money, fake child abuse (even the shockingly common "he touched Sally-DOWN THERE!" claims that end up being so-often disregarded) claims etc. but women who dont have a verified history of FOLLOWING THROUGH with previous restraining order (beyond the temporary one) calling CPS etc. are routinley not believed.
Ask a court mediator how often men say stuff like "yeah WE hit each other/ did/do drugs together" while women say "HE'S a druggie...who HITS ME!!!" The standard sentace the judge/mediator puts is
"...I found Mr. Murray's story much more credible..."
And addicted? theres a difference between something your body is going through, and your mind. Either way, an "addiction" doesn't put a cock in your mouth for another bag of meth, so can we drop this "addiction" bullshit (idea), unless in reference to physical occurrences in the body relating to lack of expected drug, I.E. heroin addict vomiting, from nerves needing heroin?
Sorry for being long-winded but dam,Usually good posts here, but this batch was retarded.
Whew, you must be some bitter, fat broad that just got her ass handed to her by her ex-husband's divorce attorney. You have absolutely NO READING COMPREHENSION skills. Where did I say in my post that only women make up stories? What I said, you insolent little twat, is that WOMEN are more prone to play the abuse card. It's a fact.
Oh, and as for how I spend my free time...I busted my ass in law school so I have the privilege of only working part time. I take off Fridays to play tennis. Sometimes, just to go shopping. Does that piss you off? I'm sorry if you're stuck in your little 3' X 3' cube for 60 hours a week. But you're a fuckface, so I am delighted that you are.

The only ones that know the true story are Bill & his wife. Back off people, this comment area reminds me of the Salem witch trials...
