Turkey has a secular government, and is trying to become a member of the EU. Yes, it has a long way to go, but it is very accepting of diverse faiths (especially when compared to more authoritarian Muslim nations that are ruled by Islamic law). In Islam, certain taboos exist that do not occur in Western culture. I do not agree with these taboos, but if I were to visit an Islamic country I would respect them (just as I would hope that any Islamic person who visits the United States or Western Europe would embrace our ideas about freedom. Unfortunately this is not the case, but I would show the same respect that I would expect of them...whether or not they actually displayed it).
Secondly, for the people saying that foreigners hate us because they are jealous of our freedoms, this is an absurd (and, yes, ignorant) thing to say. Many foreigners who have more money, more freedom, better educations, and better healthcare than we do (most of Western Europe, Australia...) hate imperialist American policies ("We will FORCE democracy on you!") They do not hate Americans, but they resent our government. They are not jealous of us, nor would they dream of trading citizenships.

I happen to be Turkish and visit frequently. Like one post said people wear mini-skirts up to their ass and one of the biggest singer in Turkey is transgender and one comedian who is a drag queen has been on TV for decades. Turks have historically been considered "watered down muslims" by their more religious counterparts in teh Middle East. It is a Mediteranean country with a mix of European aand more traditional anatolian cultures. Turkey is not ruled by a islamic mindset- not in government (which is secular) or daily life. Turkey has a secular government, and is trying to become a member of the EU. Yes, it has a long way to go, but it is very accepting of diverse faiths (especially when compared to more authoritarian Muslim nations that are ruled by Islamic law). In Islam, certain taboos exist that do not occur in Western culture. I do not agree with these taboos, but if I were to visit an Islamic country I would respect them (just as I would hope that any Islamic person who visits the United States or Western Europe would embrace our ideas about freedom. when i said a few, I meant not every single fucking muslim on the planet which is what most of you ignorant morons are suggesting. I am not "ashamed" of being muslim- I do not practice it and refuse to identify with any organized belief system b/c I think its all shit at the end of the day- that includes ALL organized religion. Religion controls and brain-washes people, which is exactly the problem with Islamic terrorists. However, it bothers me that people only want to point out "Islamic terrorists" but terrorism exists in other religions as well. -why not target and condemn all terrorists-not just the muslim ones. To the anon posting earlier- your analogy makes no sense- I do not partake in any of the rituals of islam hence I do not identify with it and do not consider myself a member of it- but if you like to suck dick then you're definately gay :)
