If someone else were chosen to give the invocation, someone who does support gay marriage, then roughly 50% of the population would disagree with that person. Sadly, it will be impossible to choose someone whom 100% of the electorate agrees with. Just because you disagree with someone doesn't make them an "idiot" or a "pile of crap," it simply means that they hold opposing views, regardless of whether or not you think those views are right. Isn't it great that we live in a country where people are free to express those discordant views without fear of repercussion?
Rick Warren is by far the highest profile conservative Christian leader who has reached out to Muslims to find common ground. That's why Obama picked him. In the slightly more serious world outside of "entertainment" the Muslim outreach has been much more controversial than any of his comments about homosexuality (which were pretty standard stuff for evangelicals). Obama published a photocopy of what he says is his birth certificate and many experts have said is a fake. He's never shown anyone the actual copy of his birth certificate and never proven he's a U.S. citizen. Most reports put his birth place outside the U.S.
