You're missing the big picture if you're missiing the significance this event holds for our country..... it doesn't matter who you are, republican or democrat.
No, you'd rather see the OTHER rich, privlidged guy be president so we could continue the free fall into hell. Why don't you stick to celebrity gossip and stay out of politics cause not only is it make me not want to come here anymore but also cause you kinda suck at it.
^ Uh oh, Todd. You disagreed with a liberal. Don't you know that if you can't say anything nice about Obama that you shouldn't say anything at all? lol
Actually, I'll take troop's place when he leaves. Nice to see not everyone is fawning. Also, troop, Obama is just as likely to continue the free fall into hell since he holds the same fundamental views as the previous administration (bailouts, executive orders, Patriot Act, etc, etc) so buckle up, its about to get bumpy all up in here.
If I had voted against him because he's black, I would have been labeled a racist. What do you call the people who voted for him because he's black? I have yet to see what he stands for besides "new." I guess bringing back the Clinton cabinet is a "new" idea, but I think that the fall we started with Bush will continue--only this time without a safety net.
Wow. I loved coming here for celebrity stuff. Not politics. I'm an avid supporter of Obama, and wonder why you took the time to post this if you don't care for him. The MLK remark crossed lines of offensiveness.
I loved your site. But no more. I will not come back. And you don't have to cue the tiny violins or any of that bullshit. I just wanted you to know that you have lost one reader, due to a lack of intelligence and integrity on your part.
the simple fact that he is the least qualified president we have ever had is a huge thing. The fact that liberals openly bashed palin for her experience just shows the hypocracy. Sarah Palin has pretty close to the same experience as Obama and she was the VP nomination. I like Obama and I hope he does well but these Idiotic people supporting him like he's jesus. Rediculous.
I agree with a lot of what you said, especially with people thinking he's the next Messiah or something, but the difference, to me, between him and all the other Ivy-league educated, white-raised men who came before him and are in politics now is that he seems to have actually WORKED his way to get their. Not bought his way in. Hawaii is a great place to live but it's known for it's poverty.
All that said, keep out of the politics and stick to celebrity gossip. As we learned this week, you're the best out there when it comes to that.
The fact is that the media is in love with Obama. Making that statement does not say whether or not I support him or am against him. For the record, I DO support him, but even I am amazed when I see how incredibly...marketable.... he is. It's f'in weird. I'm sure Kennedy was like this too, because he was--GASP! Catholic!
At least Bozo the drunk idiot is out of the White House. It was either a Harvard graduate or let Palin within a heart attack away from the button. The only way that psycho bitch should be allowed in the White House is on a public tour. The American people did not elect Obama because he was black, but because Georgie almost bankrupted our country in 8 years.
Your most brilliant comment yet! However, one mistake. Apparently THIS speach he wrote himself. The white guy is reported to have had nothing to do with it. Interestingly, it was the WORST speach he ever gave. I'm not sure anybody even knew what he was talking about at times. There wasn't ONE phrase worth quoting.
Waaah! Let's all cry and complain because Todd said something we were all thinking, but too afraid to say. Keep it up, Todd. Don't censor yourself because some tools may get upset.
I understand that people feel differently than me about politics and I respect that, but to be honest, people who complain about the inauguration and what it means to the millions of people that it mean s something to just come off sounding ignorant. Do yourselves a big favor and keep your negative energy to yourselves. It is lame.
Best political commentary I've read in the past 12 months...amazing it was in this site. Bloody brilliant! And I do not think it is out of line, since McCain and Palin have been covered extensively in gossip sites and the like (Tina Fey parody much?) while Obamania has pretty much escaped the slightest mockery / criticism. The liens about the 'historic significance' were great. Nailed it 100%.
Todd, I've loved your writing ever since you were back at The Superficial, but what has always unnerved me about you is that you are a racist. This observation is not from this post alone, but many. I agree with some of your remarks about Obama and his background, but it's very clear the defining factor of your disdain for Obama is the color of his skin.
Hey, Anonymous: ". . . the difference, to me, between him and all the other Ivy-league educated, white-raised men who came before him and are in politics now is that he seems to have actually WORKED his way to get their. Not bought his way in."
Are you kidding? The man spent three-quarters of a BILLION dollars to get elected (the most ANY candidate--EVER-- has spent) and you're trying to argue that he didn't "BUY" his way in? What Kool-Aid are you drinking?
THANK YOU TODD FOR COMING BACK!! It was about time. Please do us all a favor and take away all computing devices away from Dave. Also great commentary about Obama. I was curious to see how long it would take for someone in the country to not look at this guy like the second coming. THANK YOU.
#35 - your post implies that he had $750 million in his pocket BEFORE he ran the best campaign in modern presidential history. That money was raised genuinely by his campaign.
And if I read "Ivy League-educated" as an insult one more time, I might murder somebody. God forbid our president is intelligent. As if we would be in better hands if he went to Mississippi State, or something. It's absurd.
Basically, what I'm saying is this: Todd, stick to making fun of celebrities who have more money than you. I don't go to ESPN.com to have Peter Gammons tell me about Lohan and Ronson.
Jesus, the Obama jock sniffers are terrifying. When did we become North Korea? Next thing you know, we'll be required to keep a photo of Obama in a prominent place in our home.
Thank you. I go to lots of gossip sites but I will be a regular here now. I am also a Black female Republican and I think that Michelle O is big and tacky.
this is a funny site and that was a funny comment, simple as that. lighten the fuck up liberals cause its fun to take the piss out of obama just like every other politician.
Geez, you people need to lighten up. Obama is most definitely a celebrity (like another certain Democratic President who was able to keep his name in the gossip columns for a notorious affair). His super-stardom and following cannot be denied. People worship him with an eerie mindlessness like he's going to cure cancer. And what about all of the celebrities that endorse and embrace him as if he were a star in Hollywood? Don't blame Todd for having his opinion, whatever it may be...I mean, we can't judge each other here, we're checking a website that features updates on Megan Fox's breasts on a daily basis.
Hilarious! Todd, I think I may love you. Just because you're a raging, gun-toting hick/conservative and I'm a "free spirited" (read: slut ... no, really) socialist doesn't mean that we couldn't make beautiful babies together.
You are such a douche canoe! Not to mention a racist, bitter small minded bigot. But hey, if you see your favorite twat waffle, George W., be sure to thank him for the deficit, two wars, the economic tsunami and the lowest approval rating of any sitting president! He did a swell job!
Bravo! That was a great post. Anyway, as Toni Morrison said William Jefferson Clinton was our first black president, white skin notwithstanding, so I believe her. I mean she was both a Nobel and Pulitzer prize winner. I know, I know, I am a raaaacist! Can't you libs come up with a better silver bullet. I'm yawning over here.
I spent all of yesterday trying to put into words the way I felt about the ridiculousness of the day, but I just couldn't do it. I couldn't quite say what I felt.
I love your site but did not appreciate this post - it would be nice if celebrity bloggers did just that - blog about celebrities and left politics alone. You can make a person leave your blog for one such post.
There is another blogger that goes down this road of posting political thoughts and it has driven many away. It does not matter what side you are on - you will drive people away.
#30. You want to come together now. Bite me. #50. You want to be schooled in economics or just told you are a retard? Economic tsunami, seriously? Did you write that down in your notes in some econ 101 class and then giggled with pleasure at the first chance to use it? Your Christ is going to tax the hell out of corporations, yeah the ones who spread their wealth by creating new jobs. Oh but I forget it's all about sticking it to the man. Gosh, I forget sometimes that this a celebrity gossip site because all you intellectually dishonest Libtards have to spew your comments everywhere.
I live in Canada too, and people certainly are fawning over Obama even here. But really, it couldn't possibly get any worse than George Doubleya. Just sayin'.
Ha ha ha! You whiny crybaby republicans! You've had your eight years of terror under the reign of the drunken inept cowboy and just look how he f-ed up the country. Break out the Kleenex you losers!
I am shocked by the utter disrespect of the author of this blurb and its subsequent comments. You, passively sitting on your couch wasting your time watching reruns of a mediocre sitcom, have no right to say anything against President Barack Obama; if you don't like his policies or ideals, that's your choice, but you should make an effort to educate yourself about the 44th president before you trash-talk him... I don't think that "watching the House marathon on USA" constitutes as educating yourself. And as a New Yorker, I have seen people from all socioeconomic stati, levels of education, race, creed, etc. (i.e. non "rich, Ivy-league educated citizens) practically worship our new commander in chief; his words speak to everyone and if you took the time to pull those earplugs of stubbornness and ignorance out of your ears, you might learn something. And while it probably comes as no care to you, you have just lost a regular IDLYITW reader; I simply cannot tolerate the injustice and laziness of your writers. IT'S TIME TO BARACK 'N ROLL.
And if you publish this comment, I will be completely taken aback, since you have discarded all of my other comments in the past. Maybe you don't understand my "Ivy-league, rich" words (classmate of Obama's at Columbia) or maybe you just can't bear to post a comment that exposes you for who you really are: a bunch of deadbeat, middle aged losers... who will never "score" Miranda Kerr or Megan Fox, for that matter.
I'm so bummed that you could take something that makes people feel inspired and hopeful and piss on it. I find joy when you do it to overpaid, self important actors, but am disappointed to read this. I don't think that someone must cross the Alps on elephants in order to witness something historical. Nor do I think a visit from Jesus is the only thing worth getting excited about. And I'm dying to know when "Ivy League Educated" became a bad thing? I have an idea - you stick to mocking Britney Spears and I will continue to get my political commentary on sites that don't show random nipple slips.
if you aren't enthusiastic about Obama being elected, then that's fine.
i voted for him, i went to the inauguration, and i'm excited about it.
I still, however, get annoyed when blogs that are decidedly apolitical gush about him. it's not why i read them, and if i want political analysis, i go to political sites. likewise, i get annoyed when apolitical blog writers are total dicks about him getting elected.
ambivalent? fine. indifferent? by all means. in this case, you're just being an asshole.
The beautiful thing about living in America is this little amendment called "Freedom of Speech". So everyone complaining about a "political post" get over it and deal with it. I didn't see all this when there were posts on Palin. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
As for the people saying stick to celebrities. Obama has been treated like a celebrity, looked at like a celebrity and "worshipped" like a celebrity by the Obama supporters, but when he is criticized like a celebrity you get bent out of shape. BOO FRICKIN HOO!!!
Doubtful Tod reads his comments - But I am surprised how passionate people are commenting. If you are an Obama fan or not - it is crazy to think it is okay with the frustration in the anti Obama. Like #37. Because you are white, you do not think there is significance in equality? I mean - I can understand because you are a white man, but at the same token, Tod is condoning this thought? Kinda crazy. I am not going to say Tod is racist. I think he rides the bus with black people so he believes to be well versed in "colored" - but I think this was a bit too much to evoke. Kinda disappointing - and a bit ignorant. But if everyone looks alike and being raised by white people makes you white... And if going to a good school makes you better than others, and being in politics no matter what you are trying to overcome... If all of this is the truth. I guess America is eternally doomed. Thank you for making sure we keep up with our daily dose of pessimism. With your blog and these comments, I am surprised we made it as far as we have. Well - I guess we have not. Thank you for the blog. I learned a lot about you and your readers. I guess you were never talking to me, but mocking me this whole time.
#62 Seriously? You were inspired when a fat, crazy, 27 year old pop star had her daddy come babysit her? Hmph. Interesting. I didn't know. I've not met one person who was inspired and hopeful when Britney started wearing panties again. You are the first. But now that you mention it...it's about the same thing.
Idiots. He's the leader of the free world and now serves as the chief representative of the document that protects your right to express such rediculous opinions. I used to love your site, now I'm just disgusted... You, Sir, are the problem with this nation. Please continue to stuff your face with fast food, sit on your couch, neglect your civic duties, and vote for American Idle. ugh...
There was an inauguration yesterday? Man, did I miss out! Every channel I tried to tune into yesterday was showing reruns of the Planet of the Apes...
That is racist, what Todd said was funny. Get over it, it's called political satire and you liberals did not mind posting comments about "W" being inbred, drunk, illiterate and all the other trash you have spewed for 8 years. If you can call someone inbred because they came from Texas, then I can call Obama a joke becuase that is what he is to me.
In the end I will support the office of the President because I am an American, I will not, however, support the man in that office until he proves he can do the job. He has until 01/20/2013 and my clock is counting down.
Larry, are you implying that if one is educated they should not read this site? I thought you were defending Todd and his point of view? Why, then, would you turn around and insult him?
NEWS FLASH ... It doesn't make EVERYONE "feel inspired and hopeful." SECOND NEWS FLASH ... The operator of this website, just like everyone else, is entitled to HIS OPINION.
THIRD NEWS FLASH if you disagree with the operators opinion then you can't voice your disagreement of his opinion. It follows the same rules as dares...you can't triple dare a double dare.
Just wait until the liberal fawn machines get to know the meaning of 'share the wealth' and 'share the pain'. They might figure it out when they are targeted as 'rich'. Oooo Obama!
Hey Red (#14), want to talk about offensive? How about that crotchety old black guy giving the benediction and acting as if we're stuck in 1960? White must get right? Excuse me? What else does he want, he was standing beside the first black president!! Sorry to tell you but WHITE GUILT IS OFFICIALLY DEAD. You cant have it both ways. Either you are oppressed or oppression is over and you can no longer hoarde it over everyone. I'd say electing one of your race to the highest post in the free world counts as overcoming oppression. And who do you think put him there? Since blacks only make up 10-15% of the population, I guess you had to have a little help from Whitey. Hows that for offensive? BEOCH.
"THIRD NEWS FLASH if you disagree with the operators opinion then you can't voice your disagreement of his opinion. It follows the same rules as dares...you can't triple dare a double dare."
Yes, you can disagree with the opinion. Insulting him for having his opinion is entirely different and out of line.
The liberals are happy now, but four years from now they will have been taxed into poverty and none of their economic crises will have been solved. Their hero, Barack Hussein Obama, will be telling the world Rome wasn't built in a day and he'll need four more years to to really fix "what Bush did" to them, but at least all the ghetto welfare people now have money (your tax money) to spend on gold teeth and rims!
"Larry, are you implying that if one is educated they should not read this site? I thought you were defending Todd and his point of view? Why, then, would you turn around and insult him?"
I wasn't insulting Todd. The author was patting himself on the back and making himself seem better than everyone else for going to Columbia with Obama. My point is if that education is so impressive, why would a person like that be on this site? Do you think Obama reads this site on a regular basis?
Idiots. He's the leader of the free world and now serves as the chief representative of the document that protects your right to express such rediculous opinions. I used to love your site, now I'm just disgusted... You, Sir, are the problem with this nation. Please continue to stuff your face with fast food, sit on your couch, neglect your civic duties, and vote for American Idle. ugh...
So, just because he is President, everyone is supposed to praise him and kiss his backside?
I'm willing to bet you are one who was constantly bashing George Bush. I guess respect for the position of the President only applies when it's someone you like, huh?
Hey #74 Open your eyes sunshine. Have you looked at your wallet lately? It's not like we haven't been "sharing the pain" for a while! You see that GM plant? Surprisingly it's not supposed to be closed.
#59 - "You, passively sitting on your couch wasting your time watching reruns of a mediocre sitcom, have no right to say anything against President Barack Obama"
I realize that internet "debating/arguing" is ultimately pointless but still feel the need to address that particular statement and to do so in complete sincerity. You have to acknowledge two things: 1. The massive number of people who have had incredibly rude things to say about President George W. Bush. I can't help but wonder how many times liberal Democrats got upset at those comments. 2. The fact of the matter is that the author of this site DOES have the right to say anything that they please. We live in a country where we enjoy the freedom of speech and the press, which means we can critique our leaders. I would assume that a Columbia grad would know that.
my grass cutter looks a lot like me too. Oh wait, it IS me! Nice commentary nonetheless. Nothin' against Obama, hope he's everything people think he's gonna be. To me, he's just a politician, and my opinion of politicians is about the same, regardless.
Im all for throwing Bush out of the picture, and im excited to see someone else in office....BUT-
we are in a recession! R they fucken serious by spending 125mill on this shit? Couldnt he have practiced what the fuck hes preachin and maybe passes on the huge shindigg an just got sworn in privately? Seriously, its not like we would of forgotten he was our new prez just because we didnt have a black history parade.
TO LARRY- "The author was patting himself on the back and making himself seem better than everyone else for going to Columbia with Obama."
I must admit, my curiosity of this banter drew me back to check on this site, despite my original statement. To Larry, my name is Sophia Brown and I live in downtown New York City. Would you like to know anything else? And if you had read my comment thoroughly, you would have understood that I was not "throwing in" my Columbia education to place myself above everyone else, rather, I was putting that in to show how "Ivy league" educated people as well as non-Ivy leaguers can share the same opinion on political figures; education doesn't make a difference. It's your interest and curiosity that make the difference, which Todd seems to lack, thus bringing us back to the root of my previous comment. And education also doesn't affect one's interest in celebrity gossip- I like to know what the girls on the subway are giggling about in their People magazines and who's who on the Red Carpet. But thanks for pointing out out to me that this site is exclusively for angry Republicans who can't seem to wrench their heads out from the sand.
Ok countdown to wich state will lose the most jobs ,crime will go up , people getting out of there following by the rest of the country , have your passports ready people , CANADA or EUROPE here we come
#42, Anonymous - ". . . your post implies that he had $750 million in his pocket BEFORE he ran the best campaign in modern presidential history. That money was raised genuinely by his campaign."
-Actually, my post didn't "imply" any such thing. Again I ask: "What Kool-Aid are you drinking?" My point wasn't HOW he got the money, but that he--a completely and utterly unqualified individual--wouldn't have won the election without it. No matter how you want to spin it, he (and those who put him in power) bought the election, pure and simple.
Sandman- "2. The fact of the matter is that the author of this site DOES have the right to say anything that they please. We live in a country where we enjoy the freedom of speech and the press, which means we can critique our leaders. I would assume that a Columbia grad would know that."
While I agree that debating this is pointless because at the end of the day everyone is going to stick to their guns and remain either pro-Obama or againt him, I would just like to point out that, yes, I could have worded that sentence a bit more clearly, but what I meant is that, you can say anything you want, but if you want to be respected and sound like an adult, you should have reasons to support your opinion. And, regardless of your political preference, to not watch/care about the Inauguration is to show how little you care about the state of your nation and if you don't care about that, then why do you care who gets elected in the first place?
Its funny when bush was relected and they spent 40 mil on the inaguration and libs were saying we shouldn't spend that much..
With the economy in the hole now (the media scaring people into not spending money and even the Messiah saying its going to be bad before it gets better)they spent 140 mil on the Messiah
#16: I don't see how anyone could be less qualified than GWB was, and he got 2 terms.
I'm not sure if the reason more people are excited is because a black man is president and our country has come such a long way or if it is because GWB is no longer the President.
It's freaking awesome that you can post something on your own website, that may be controversial but isn't "offensive". How dare you have an opinion? How dare you use your voice?! God people, get over it. Just because someone isn't thrilled about Barack Obama does not make them wrong, a bad person, ignorant, an idiot, etc. Why in the h*ll do we even have an election if you're all so convinced that people's opinions are invalid or don't matter?!? It was possible for people to not support either candidate. All of this hysteria, name calling and rifts between Democrats and Republicans is so silly. You really all should get over yourselves.
"my name is Sophia Brown and I live in downtown New York City"
You're black. We get it. We don't care if you went to school with Obama. Nobody is impressed. I thought you weren't going to read this site anymore, Ms. Black Activist ACLU Liberal Commie Lawyer-woman?
See, THIS is why we NEED a BLACK man in office- he's not nearly as ignorant as you all writing. Half of you can't even fuckin SPELL, and think you have the wisdom and knowledge to know what a President needs and lacks? Grow up! Yall been runnin this country into the ground for YEARS now- yall are the ones disillusioned. Compare Barack's education to Palin's or Bush's. Its so sad that even though you enslaved Blacks for over 400 years you can't just take a fuckin seat and let one preside over the country for FOUR YEARS! I mean, damn- yall have had it FOREVER! And YES, the fact that a BLACK man made it is HISTORICAL! This is the country that told us we'd never amount to shit- and look what WE did. HA!! Do ya really thing Obama CARES if you kiss his ass? He's the PRESIDENT!!HAHAHA! I don't think he'd give two shits if you bent over and kissed your OWN ass, mkay? Say what you want- it DOES have to do with race, but the first thing White people wanna say is- "it's not about race"- well he's CLEARLY more qualified than George was, so what again is the problem? Clearly more qualified and educated than McCain AND Palin put together to the 10th power, so why again should he NOT have been elected? Yeah, ok.
Obama has never served in the military, he was raised by activist parents and was raised Muslim for most of his young years until is parents allegedly "converted" to Christianity. He had a self-hating white mother who conveniently died before he ran for president along with his grandmother. His living family members have told people he's a liar and no one believed them. He was a crooked lawyer. His middle name is Hussein. He's never HIMSELF shown anyone a genuine copy of his legitimate birth certificate proving he's a U.S. citizen. He stumbles and sounds ignorant whenever his words aren't written for him and memorized. His campaign was paid for by billionaires like Oprah Winfrey. And the list goes on...
Hate to break it to some of you who are crying 'inexperienced' (or 'unqualified'), but the only criteria for being elected president of the United States is to be a US citizen (and don't even start on that 'his birth certificate was fake' bullshit) and to be over the age of 35.
Wow, I think its great you really have a opinion on the matter of who is going to be running OUR country.I did watch and I was VERY surprised at how HollyWood it was.
And jeez, people, grow up. It's a free country. He's allowed to have a different opinion than you.
And if you don't want to visit the site anymore, then just shut up and get lost. Frankly, a prerequisite for coming here should be a sense of humor because it's obvious a lot of you lack it.

So again it is ok to flame Dave for posting about Lily Allen's hat but not Todd for posting about the President of the USA? Get over yourself hypocrite. Think of this as the photo negative of the Dixie Chicks vs Bush thing. The Dixie Chicks had every right to say what they did and people had every right to react the way they did. That's called freedom. Todd choose to bring up a polarizing subject therefore he should be a big boy and take the criticism like a man.
We're here to answer the question whether or not Brooke Hogan has a penis not whether the president can balance the budget. We come to this site to get away from serious stuff. You interject politics AND race into any conversation and you're asking for trouble.
So basically he's exactly like the rich white dudes who keep getting elected, except he's black. Whee. What a change.
Seriously, the adulation for this douchebag cracks me up. He's a total fake -- everything people expect of him is pumped-up hype, with a lot of empty buzzwords like "change" and "new" and "fresh." People are actually dumb enough to think that he can and will fix the economy, repair our relations with other countries to ensure world peace, and usher the US into a golden age of racial tolerance and prosperity (despite belonging to the Church of the Anti-White Racial Hatred).
Even if he COULD do those things (which he can't), he wouldn't. Because that would mean sticking his bony neck out. And regardless of party, a politician is basically a creepy, lying, oily selfish little turd who would gladly see the "ordinary people" he claims to be just like burn before he'd sacrifice a point on his approval rating. Why assume that Obama is any different?
So until he PROVES that he's not as bad as that simian Bush, he doesn't get an ounce of my personal approval (not that it's worth much). He should have to EARN respect, not be given it just because he's not Bush.
So in the meantime, I'm just going to sit back an wait for his pre-op tranny wife to start spouting inflammatory shit again.
08:23:31, funny how people said the same things about Sarah Palin, amongst all the lovely misogynist bullshit.
Seriously, if those are the only criteria maybe I'LL run for prez. I doubt I could fuck it up any worse than Bush has, or any worse than Obama will. And since I'm incapable of long-term lying, I might set a trend.
I heard he's already re-decorating the Oval Office. He hired a few of the hoods from the slums he used to manage in Illinois to spray paint murals of 2 Pac, Malcolm X, Che Guevara, and Scarface on the walls.
Todd you are awesome... Who cares what race the president is? How are we ever going to get over this race issue if everyone keeps making it into one when each opportunity presents itself? If you guys wat to get technical, he's not even BLACK!! Hurray for the first Halfrican president! I wonder as well if he would have as much support if it was not for complexion.

Liberal pussies quit whining. NOTHING is too offensive to be on this site! That's why we come here, and you know it. If it bothers you, go to People.com or some other ass kissing site. You won't be missed.
So, does this mean that starting today more black high school students across america will bother to stay awake for their classes??
And if they're awake, will they refrain from bullying the black students who have been awake and participating the whole time??
I might be some white guy in Canada NOW, but for five years I was a resident in Louisiana. I attended and graduated from Broadmoor High in Baton rouge. Crabs in a bucket...
All black (ie: 'afrocentric') schools in Toronto? Crabs in a bucket mentality up here as well.
Well, i hate politics, and i am rather sick of Obamamania or whatever it is called now. I would never vote for Republicans or Democrats, but to hear the Obamabots talking about "change" well, sorry...if you want true change, you do not vote for one of the two disgusting and corrupt parties who have flushed our country down the toilet repeatedly, while giving themselves raises and perks.
Historically, i think this was a great event, (i did not watch it because i am a cynic and don't really care) and it was a great moment that we have elected our first bi-racial president. The significance of the moment was very important for our country, however the significance of the person elected was no different than any other politician. he is a *POLITICIAN*. he is not a demi-god, nor the solution to our problems, same no other politician is.
Obama is a very smart, charismatic and seemingly cool guy. He seems like a great husband and a great father.
He seems like a cool guy you could have a beer with, watch a football game with, chat with for hours about a number of things with...i think he is a very impressive man...but the fact remains, he is a politician, not a magician or a messiah, and he does not have any new solutions to very old problems that have been messed up by our government for decades.
He offers nothing new in the grand scheme of things, merely old ideas wrapped up in very impressive and new marketing. Whether people like it or not, he is in fact the most inexperienced president we have ever elected...that in and of itself is not so bad, except the people who have ignored that and are expecting some sort if messianic experience are in for a very big letdown.
i hope he does a good job for our nation. Ultimately though, he does not have anything new to say. He offers "hope" to the downtrodden, but there is a reason why the downtrodden are the downtrodden...because they are not that smart. A president can only do so much, no matter what party he belongs to. I understand what he represents to black americans, and i understand how emotional it is for them, and i feel happy for them for it...but he will not change the problems that exist in segments of the black community like the inner cities...because he represents everything the inner cities aren't. He cared about education, he speaks perfect english, he worked hard etc...young blacks now have no excuse for why they cannot succeed now. They can no longer say that speaking English properly is "talking white"...MLK did it, Malcolm X did it, Frederick Douglass did it and President Obama does it. It is called being intelligent.
Obama is not going to help these kids do their homework, speak properly and not drop out of school...they must do it themselves. I truly hope that the black community itself is able to use this moment for the good and i am hopeful for it...i hope he gets his environmental plans through because i support that...but ultimately, i don't need anything from Obama really...i just want him to leave my taxes alone and abolish the Estate tax...and he won't do either. So ultimately, he has no real other bearing on my life. I hope he does well...but he will have no effect on my life...unless of course he lets Iran get nuclear weapons.
oh, god, this is funny.... now all let's hold hands and sing along : 'obama, obama, hail obama'. idiots, what do you think? you give him money and he will love lending it back to you. idiots.....
Haters!! That is all you are...can't you just be happy for the man...honestly..this WAS a very racists country years ago...or do you remember? It shouldn't even be about color..but unfortunetly it is...
HEY #104: did you have any idea that obama is about 5% black? you are just another idiot that is excited about him being president because of the color of his skin. you're ignorant.
I so totally watched the House marathon, too! Screw the inauguration! House was on all day!
Don't you just love how you are bashed for your opinion of Obama and his inauguration? When you are suppose to just let their opionions of Bush slide. Stupid Democratic Double Standards. BTW, I'm neither Democratic or Republican, so you can't call me a stupid Republican. I'm an Independent.
Psst, I'm in NC, also. Hit me up for a good time! I swallow.
I laughed out loud when i read it , and tea came out my nose as I browsed the Comments, Sure we needed to lose the village idiot butSip the cool aid my people, Don't chug like a line backer, When the drugs wear out, coming down will be a bitch, If your on this site without a sense of humor clearly you need a better map.
You know what would be a great leap forward for the USA, if all the blacks stopped stabbing & killing each other over stupid hip hop, rap "respect" bullshit. You know, at the Notorious premiers & after parties? I found it real hilarious that MLK day & the Obama inagauguration have to show just how far we've come in this country.. when blacks still keep killing themselves off, rapping about violence against each other & whites, making stupid movies about fat useless morons like Biggie Smalls just because he can "rap" in ebonics & cuss words real fast! Hurray for the change, we have a black pres now. Hurray for MLK & his speech. Hurray for blacks killing people & selling drugs, & being useless still, because they are black!! Yeah Crystal JONES, (#104) "yall" really amount to ALOT! ONE of you made it to presidency congrats.. the rest of you still SUCK!
Weve already had a black president-Thanks Bill Clinton. I watched about half an hour and the actual inauguration. Then, it was House for the next 8 hours!! 8HOURS!!!! America! What a country!!!
The ignorance on this thread coming from the right-wing kool-aid drinkers is highly palpable. You couldn't find a more concentrated bunch of disillusioned tools if you went to a Hooters for a Friday night $1-a-beer night. Good grief.
Nice try, Sophia "Grow A Pair" Brown. That isn't what you were using it for at all. Here is your original comment:
And if you publish this comment, I will be completely taken aback, since you have discarded all of my other comments in the past. Maybe you don't understand my "Ivy-league, rich" words (classmate of Obama's at Columbia) or maybe you just can't bear to post a comment that exposes you for who you really are: a bunch of deadbeat, middle aged losers... who will never "score" Miranda Kerr or Megan Fox, for that matter.
See? That's nothing about political views. That is you bashing Todd ("...deadbeat, middle aged losers...") and using your education to do so.
Think of this as the photo negative of the Dixie Chicks vs Bush thing. The Dixie Chicks had every right to say what they did and people had every right to react the way they did. That's called freedom.
That's crap. The Dixie Chicks said that in Europe. If they truly believed it, they would have said it in the United States.
They came home, saw the backlash - and APOLOGIZED. One of them did an interview in Australia and said it was a JOKE.
Then, when the political atmosphere changed and being anti-Bush was popular, they decided to say, "You know what? We don't take it back. We meant it."
All you mouth-breathers will still be spewing ignorance when you get your $12Trillion back, when the troops come home and when dissent isn't a crime. So don't try and act like what you have is an opinion. It's a genetic predisposition.
Uh, #132, it was only half a leap, because he's only half black. Actually, considering he was raised by whites in Kansas, I think he might actually be more white than black.
Did the Messiah go by Barry at Columbia instead of Barack as well? Or did he just piss all over his African-American heritage at Harvard so he could be the 1st black president of the Harvard Law Review???
He must have had Axelrod running focus groups on that like he does every damned thing else so the American "Idol" can get over on the folks.
#98 - ": I don't see how anyone could be less qualified than GWB was, and he got 2 terms."
So being the CEO of a large oil firm, Managing partner over a multi-million dollar sports franchise and being the first Governor in Texas history to serve two 4 year terms is not qualified?
Perhaps he should have went into "Community organizing".
I will show this president the same respect and courtesy that Mr. Bush was shown. When I start calling Obama "liar", "Idiot" and in "inbred" then don't blame me.
"I'm not black... blonde, blue eyes, I could not much WASPier even if I tried
By Grow a Pair, on January 21, 2009 08:55:50"
You're worse than a black activist. You're a white advocating for blacks who don't even need or want your help (unless you're giving them lots of tax free money). You do it to ease your own 'white guilt' and it's all self serving and people like Obama use you for your money and support, but will never give you anything in return. You won't even get a handwritten thank you card for commenting on blogs written by anyone who DARES to write anything bad about your BFF classmate. Nobody cares what comments you have about the writers on this little celebrity gossip blog. If YOU had enough balls, "Grow a Pair", you would go argue with people smarter than you on real political blogs, and Daily Kos and Huff Post do NOT count.
Obama seems like a very nice man with many nice ideas. It is good that he is well-educated. It is nice that he has an adorable family and a wife he genuinely seems to have the hots for. The biggest problem for this guy is going to be living up to the ridiculous expectations placed on him by the media. This country is in a mess. He won because he peddled change, and change is what the country was after. NEWSFLASH PEOPLE: Obama has already had to compromise his promise for CHANGE by bringing the old crooked Clinton crew back on board. You better believe he did this in some back-room negotiation to get the support of the Democratic Party puppet-masters. Good luck changing this country Obama--the corrupt political system is too deeply entrenched for you to shake them out of power. Good luck, though. The poor and middle class in this nation really need some help--and that's one promise you better work hard to keep!
#59 - "You, passively sitting on your couch wasting your time watching reruns of a mediocre sitcom, have no right to say anything against President Barack Obama"
House is not a sitcom. Its a scripted drama. What a dumb ass
So many stupid comments I'm surprised this thread hasn't caved in on itself.
Obamas team raised hundreds of millions by turning off the credit card authorization on his site. That meant you could rack up any amount you want by repeat donations with phony names and it would never check. You could use debit cards, gift cards and foreign credit cards. All totally illegal and done on purpose. They went in and disabled the authorization checks that are on by default.
Bush went to Harvard too by the way, and flew fighter jets. He was the first president with an MBA but according to you asshats he's a moron. His dad was only a congressman so skip the crap about how he got the golden spoon treatment at college. He also reads more books in a year than most of you would in a lifetime. You're so protective of your opinion of him as an idiot that no amount of evidence would convince you otherwise. That makes you the idiots.
Agree with the poster who are amazed that the left now wants civility and respect for the office, when there was none to be had for the last 8 years. The hate and bile and vitriol was unending and you should be ashamed of yourselves.
As a fellow (white) Obama supporter (to comment 158, written by #103, just because a white person is passionate about Obama's presidency does not in any way make them an "advocate for black issues" and I do not feel that that notion came through in any of her posts), I can sympathize with Sophia "Grow a Pair" Brown's argument and I realize how one's original intentions on a fiery posting wall can wander in the heat of the moment and can be misinterpreted by others. As it seems she has fulfilled her original threat of leaving IDLYITW for good, this is what I think she is trying to say and how I feel as well (going back to the origin of these comments, Todd's blurb about the inauguration):
Whoever is being sworn in, the presidential inauguration is one of the most important events in America, because, regardless of political affiliation, race, gender, religion, social standing, and education, we are all Americans and are under the guidance of the president, whether you voted for him or not. Whatever he does will affect us and our children and our children's children, be it good or be it bad; he is our Commander in Chief. Times are tough now, so tough that for Todd to take such an apathetic stance on the inauguration of his leader, my leader, your leader, our leader, and the embarkment of his presidency is to be apathetic to the state of our nation. If he is so blatantly lacking in interest and care for state of our country, then what is it to him who runs it? That is all I have to say on this matter. You can argue with me or whoever you want about it-let's face it, we're not going to change each others' minds over the internet-but Barack Obama is our president for at least the next 4 years, if not 8 and there's no changing that. Why not stop grumbling and give the man a chance? After all, he has only been in office for about 33 hours. We could all help ourselves by being a little bit more positive in these hard times and by being hopeful that Obama can either fulfill or exceed our expectations if we voted for him or prove us wrong if we did not. In the words of the great Bob Dylan, "Then you better start swimming, or you'll sink like a stone, for the times they are a-changing." Thank you, a white woman who supports Barack Obama for his ideas and policies- not for his skin color or for my "black advocacy", comment #158
Obama is a fake. A complete liberal fabrication. Yes we can, what? Stop whining? Finally take personal responsibility and stop suing everyone for everything that ever happens to you? Get jobs and pay your own bills instead of expecting the rest of us taxpayers to carry you? Oh wait, no you cant. You're liberals.
Well-said, Todd. I didn't watch it either. And wonder of wonders, we have a new president and my life isn't any different than it was last week. *YAWN* And I'm tired of hearing about him being the first black president. HE'S MIXED RACE no matter what he "CLAIMS." So what happens when an actual black man is elected president? Won't HE actually be the first?
Actually I, " A woman easing her "White Guilt"," am a 17 girl (or as I called myself, woman) named Annie from Rhode Island. I don't know anything about Sophia Brown, but I do know one thing... she could not have been in the same class as Barack Obama because Columbia did not accept women until a later class. Maybe she was a freshman while Obama was a senior..? I do not know, that's just tangential. She just seemed to be getting squashed by tons of negative people and I thought some of the things she said were admirable.
That was awesome, Todd! If I would have been drinking milk, it would have shot out of my nose. Based on completely fabricated research, it seems 170 (and counting) comments is slightly higher than average for a post here. And based on similarly bogus research, the comments seem to be pretty evenly split between those of us who appreciate your biting, witty commentary, and the thin-skinned, whining fucktards who wouldn't recognize a joke if it jumped out of the bottom of their Starbucks cups and started dry-humping their faces like an Alien hatchling. I'm just sayin'.
Annie, you're too young to be reading this website, and most children your age are liberals who talk to much about things they know nothing about, so you're not saying anything relevant. You're just wasting time and space.
It's past your bed time and you have school tomorrow. Did you do your homework?
Todd is a catalyst. He's good at making you believe that he believes what he writes.
I fell dead asleep during the swearing in and speech. And this whole Obama honeymoon thing, frankly, is creeping me out. What a sorry commentary on the state of affairs in America that so many people so desperately cling to a cult of personality. Pathetic.
By the way, I'm Ivy League educated and have read this site from the getgo. Meh and shaddup y'all.
Jesus fuckness......#104 sounds like a complete moron. I don't know what's better. This post or the vermin that have come out of the woodwork to leave ridiculous comments.
A little note to #104: when you use "yall" not once but several times, you automatically sound like a total fucktard.
OKAY LET'S END THIS: The point of Todd's post is this - White guilt and black pride got Obama in office, not because he truly suffered the black experience, but because, and only because of his SKIN COLOR. Obama has nothing in common with "real" African-Americans, he only shares a superficial characteristic. A redneck mechanic in Alabama has more in common with regular black folks that Obama does. I am a Harvard educated black woman and I can't believe I'm saying this, but if you get past the inevitable knee-jerk reaction, what Todd says actually makes sense. Nothing he said was racist, he's actually looking beyond that. He's simply stated that "another rich, Ivy league educated lawyer raised by white people turned power hungry, cutthroat politician" is now your President. That's not change, that's more of the same. Believing this is a historical event simply because Obama has black DNA in common with you and nothing else, is more racist than anything you think Todd said.
#181 Yes I'm Black, umm is it common knowledge on campus whether Barack went by Barry 24/7?? Or, did he just do it around the white devils because he thought that his ratio of pheomelanin and eumelanin might keep him from scheming his way to pres of the Law Review.
PS: Don't let Olberman find out you're not drinking the Kool-Aid he's been posting on here while masterbating feverishly on his commemorative plate and Chris Matthew's leg.
"Its so sad that even though you enslaved Blacks for over 400 years"
Study History much?

You may wish to go back and re-read our Founding Father's notes.. they in NO manner, wanted a cult like following, of them self or any leader of America. George Washington spoke out against this many times, as many back then, wanted to make him King.
As for what started this.. well done, well written and to the point.. He is a man, one who can and will fail in some things and do right in other things.. He is NOT God or whoever one follows..
Some people take this way too seriously. Face the facts -- most of you are too poor (i.e., not millionaires) to really affect change on a large scale, so why people on either side of the fence bother to throw grass at each other is beyond me. I'll stick to making fun of Nicole Richie, thanks.
You Hit the nail on the Head, I didn't watch the coronation..oops inaguaration either. Fortunately I was in the Arizona Mountains looking for a place to live when this country goes to shit. Strip everything away and you have another crooked politician that knows how to give good speech. God help this country!
can i say, can i just say i love you all guys. i do Not need any other entertainment. love you todd but i was curious what is your opinion about your post?
Wow. #16, you are a perfect example of why this has gone to shit(and as are you TODD). You are a sheep just like the rest of them, you try and articulate yourself and say things like "it's a simple FACT" when you probably couldn't even "simply" define the meaning of a fact. The only "experience" Palin's had is waving that crusty, old hand of hers and smiling in a beauty pagent, and most likely gtting drunk and hooking up with a bunch of dudes (maybe even chicks) in high school. Obama is an amazing man, and I am SO proud to call him my president and to tell all of you to fucking suck it because you couldn't get another rich, old, decaying republican who doesn't give a shit about the "little guys" to run this country. YOU are the problem here, not Obama, and not the "liberals". I would think next time (and this goes for ALL of you) you try to make a comeback. Oh, and spelling ridiculous wrong is a good indication of why you should keep your "pie hole" shut and leave the facts to the intelligent ones. Or do you not know what that is?
i love this post and love these comments. i think what makes this country beautiful is that we can say what we want. he has every right to hold any opinion about whomever he wants and write about it here as it is his blog. you, me, everyone in America has the right to be offended. i think people forget that. does anyone here remember the first amendment?
lighten up! there are some celebrities here that I like that are made fun of and i don't throw a tantrum over it, it's all in good fun.
Crystal Jones... 1st: As far as spelling, it's funny you mentioned that. Speaking of proper english and spelling, I didn't know yall was proper english. I must've missed that day in class. 2nd: As far as racism, and something owed to you, get over it. Every single immigrant to the United States that wasn't a WASP has been prosecuted, hate to tell you. I think the first black president is wonderful, but regarding racism and owing you something I'm sure as hell not going to feel guilty and definitely not feel like I owe you something for something that happened 400 years ago.
And P.S., George Bush has an MBA from Harvard. Obama has a law degree from Harvard. It's equal. And if there's a comment about his daddy getting him in, I have two words for you....affirmative action
And if there's a comment about his daddy getting him in, I have two words for you....affirmative action
So what is it? Is he "half white" or is he black. Fucking racists can only make up your mind when you want to pick and choose a good story to go along with it.

You are hilarious as always.
I actually like the guy, but it's really odd how people seem to think he shits bricks of gold.

You're missing the big picture if you're missiing the significance this event holds for our country..... it doesn't matter who you are, republican or democrat.
By anonymous, on January 21, 2009 01:43:38
#6. Please tell us the significance.
By anonymous, on January 21, 2009 01:47:49
I agree with 3, BUT WELCOME BACK TODD, please don't ever go away again, it was horrible...
By anonymous, on January 21, 2009 01:48:59
No, you'd rather see the OTHER rich, privlidged guy be president so we could continue the free fall into hell. Why don't you stick to celebrity gossip and stay out of politics cause not only is it make me not want to come here anymore but also cause you kinda suck at it.
By troop, on January 21, 2009 01:49:51
^ Uh oh, Todd. You disagreed with a liberal. Don't you know that if you can't say anything nice about Obama that you shouldn't say anything at all? lol
By anonymous, on January 21, 2009 01:53:45
bitter much?
By anonymous, on January 21, 2009 02:07:46
Actually, I'll take troop's place when he leaves. Nice to see not everyone is fawning. Also, troop, Obama is just as likely to continue the free fall into hell since he holds the same fundamental views as the previous administration (bailouts, executive orders, Patriot Act, etc, etc) so buckle up, its about to get bumpy all up in here.
By Enrico Pallazzo, on January 21, 2009 02:10:28
If I had voted against him because he's black, I would have been labeled a racist. What do you call the people who voted for him because he's black? I have yet to see what he stands for besides "new." I guess bringing back the Clinton cabinet is a "new" idea, but I think that the fall we started with Bush will continue--only this time without a safety net.
By anonymous, on January 21, 2009 02:10:37
By red, on January 21, 2009 02:16:36
Ouch!
By stickynose, on January 21, 2009 02:20:05
the simple fact that he is the least qualified president we have ever had is a huge thing. The fact that liberals openly bashed palin for her experience just shows the hypocracy. Sarah Palin has pretty close to the same experience as Obama and she was the VP nomination. I like Obama and I hope he does well but these Idiotic people supporting him like he's jesus. Rediculous.

Everywhere I go, nodding minions.
And I live in CANADA.
By joejoe, on January 21, 2009 02:41:43
I agree with a lot of what you said, especially with people thinking he's the next Messiah or something, but the difference, to me, between him and all the other Ivy-league educated, white-raised men who came before him and are in politics now is that he seems to have actually WORKED his way to get their. Not bought his way in. Hawaii is a great place to live but it's known for it's poverty.
All that said, keep out of the politics and stick to celebrity gossip. As we learned this week, you're the best out there when it comes to that.
By anonymous, on January 21, 2009 02:44:46
It's all Clinton and A-Rod's fault
By anonymous, on January 21, 2009 02:47:57
Just wait until Obamessiah makes a decision the libs hate. I can't wait for the mass disillusionment.
By anonymous, on January 21, 2009 02:52:56
The fact is that the media is in love with Obama. Making that statement does not say whether or not I support him or am against him. For the record, I DO support him, but even I am amazed when I see how incredibly...marketable.... he is. It's f'in weird. I'm sure Kennedy was like this too, because he was--GASP! Catholic!
By ISBN, on January 21, 2009 02:59:07
Since when is Obama NOT a celebrity? He falls squarely in the celebrity gossip/commentary arena.
By anonymous, on January 21, 2009 03:02:21
At least Bozo the drunk idiot is out of the White House. It was either a Harvard graduate or let Palin within a heart attack away from the button. The only way that psycho bitch should be allowed in the White House is on a public tour. The American people did not elect Obama because he was black, but because Georgie almost bankrupted our country in 8 years.
By DJJIMMY, on January 21, 2009 03:15:55
What a bunch of tight-asses. It's amazing how thin their skin gets when you talk about Obama.
Welcome back Todd, keep the offensiveness coming.
By The General, on January 21, 2009 03:18:59
Your most brilliant comment yet! However, one mistake. Apparently THIS speach he wrote himself. The white guy is reported to have had nothing to do with it. Interestingly, it was the WORST speach he ever gave. I'm not sure anybody even knew what he was talking about at times. There wasn't ONE phrase worth quoting.
By Dave-in-PA, on January 21, 2009 03:21:16
Waaah! Let's all cry and complain because Todd said something we were all thinking, but too afraid to say. Keep it up, Todd. Don't censor yourself because some tools may get upset.

Perfect, Todd.
By anonymous, on January 21, 2009 03:36:17
I understand that people feel differently than me about politics and I respect that, but to be honest, people who complain about the inauguration and what it means to the millions of people that it mean s something to just come off sounding ignorant. Do yourselves a big favor and keep your negative energy to yourselves. It is lame.

That's not a whiny gripe, that's just a cordial reminder from an avid morning reader. Keep up the good work.
By Marianne the diplomat, on January 21, 2009 03:47:45
Best political commentary I've read in the past 12 months...amazing it was in this site. Bloody brilliant! And I do not think it is out of line, since McCain and Palin have been covered extensively in gossip sites and the like (Tina Fey parody much?) while Obamania has pretty much escaped the slightest mockery / criticism. The liens about the 'historic significance' were great. Nailed it 100%.
By Manu, on January 21, 2009 04:01:25
Todd, I've loved your writing ever since you were back at The Superficial, but what has always unnerved me about you is that you are a racist. This observation is not from this post alone, but many. I agree with some of your remarks about Obama and his background, but it's very clear the defining factor of your disdain for Obama is the color of his skin.
By Anna, on January 21, 2009 04:03:28

#35 - your post implies that he had $750 million in his pocket BEFORE he ran the best campaign in modern presidential history. That money was raised genuinely by his campaign.
And if I read "Ivy League-educated" as an insult one more time, I might murder somebody. God forbid our president is intelligent. As if we would be in better hands if he went to Mississippi State, or something. It's absurd.
Basically, what I'm saying is this: Todd, stick to making fun of celebrities who have more money than you. I don't go to ESPN.com to have Peter Gammons tell me about Lohan and Ronson.
By anonymous, on January 21, 2009 04:45:28
Jesus, the Obama jock sniffers are terrifying.
When did we become North Korea? Next thing you know, we'll be required to keep a photo of Obama in a prominent place in our home.

Thank you. I go to lots of gossip sites but I will be a regular here now. I am also a Black female Republican and I think that Michelle O is big and tacky.

this is a funny site and that was a funny comment, simple as that. lighten the fuck up liberals cause its fun to take the piss out of obama just like every other politician.
By jd, on January 21, 2009 04:50:53
Geez, you people need to lighten up. Obama is most definitely a celebrity (like another certain Democratic President who was able to keep his name in the gossip columns for a notorious affair). His super-stardom and following cannot be denied. People worship him with an eerie mindlessness like he's going to cure cancer. And what about all of the celebrities that endorse and embrace him as if he were a star in Hollywood? Don't blame Todd for having his opinion, whatever it may be...I mean, we can't judge each other here, we're checking a website that features updates on Megan Fox's breasts on a daily basis.
By Nick, on January 21, 2009 05:01:00
I'm willing to bet people like "troop" and "red" wouldn't be having such a holier-than-thou attitude if you were bashing Bush and praising Obama.
Their problem with you discussing politics is that you don't see things their way.
Period.
By Larry J, on January 21, 2009 05:01:01
Hilarious! Todd, I think I may love you. Just because you're a raging, gun-toting hick/conservative and I'm a "free spirited" (read: slut ... no, really) socialist doesn't mean that we couldn't make beautiful babies together.
By BrBn, on January 21, 2009 05:05:19
You are such a douche canoe! Not to mention a racist, bitter small minded bigot. But hey, if you see your favorite twat waffle, George W., be sure to thank him for the deficit, two wars, the economic tsunami and the lowest approval rating of any sitting president! He did a swell job!
By Jana, on January 21, 2009 05:06:06

Thanks for finding the words.
By Nicholas, on January 21, 2009 05:12:16
I love your site but did not appreciate this post - it would be nice if celebrity bloggers did just that - blog about celebrities and left politics alone. You can make a person leave your blog for one such post.
There is another blogger that goes down this road of posting political thoughts and it has driven many away. It does not matter what side you are on - you will drive people away.
By anonymous, on January 21, 2009 05:16:48

TODD WE MISSED YOU
By anonymous, on January 21, 2009 05:39:45

By anonymous, on January 21, 2009 05:42:58
#61. Britney Spears' comeback made people inspired and hopeful, too. So I guess it's all relative.
By anonymous, on January 21, 2009 05:46:44
if you aren't enthusiastic about Obama being elected, then that's fine.
i voted for him, i went to the inauguration, and i'm excited about it.
By anonymous, on January 21, 2009 05:48:47
The beautiful thing about living in America is this little amendment called "Freedom of Speech". So everyone complaining about a "political post" get over it and deal with it. I didn't see all this when there were posts on Palin. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
As for the people saying stick to celebrities. Obama has been treated like a celebrity, looked at like a celebrity and "worshipped" like a celebrity by the Obama supporters, but when he is criticized like a celebrity you get bent out of shape. BOO FRICKIN HOO!!!
And for the record, I'm a democrat.
By Little Bo Peep, on January 21, 2009 05:52:34

I've not met one person who was inspired and hopeful when Britney started wearing panties again. You are the first. But now that you mention it...it's about the same thing.

BEOCH.

#59 - "You, passively sitting on your couch wasting your time watching reruns of a mediocre sitcom, have no right to say anything against President Barack Obama"
I realize that internet "debating/arguing" is ultimately pointless but still feel the need to address that particular statement and to do so in complete sincerity. You have to acknowledge two things:

By anonymous, on January 21, 2009 07:08:59

By Grow a Pair, on January 21, 2009 07:09:24

Yeah, ok.
By Crystal Jones, on January 21, 2009 08:05:55

Think of this as the photo negative of the Dixie Chicks vs Bush thing. The Dixie Chicks had every right to say what they did and people had every right to react the way they did. People are actually dumb enough to think that he can and will fix the economy, repair our relations with other countries to ensure world peace, and usher the US into a golden age of racial tolerance and prosperity (despite belonging to the Church of the Anti-White Racial Hatred).

And if they're awake, will they refrain from bullying the black students who have been awake and participating the whole time??
I might be some white guy in Canada NOW, but for five years I was a resident in Louisiana.

By Larry, on January 21, 2009 11:27:14
Think of this as the photo negative of the Dixie Chicks vs Bush thing. The Dixie Chicks had every right to say what they did and people had every right to react the way they did. That's called freedom.
That's crap. The Dixie Chicks said that in Europe. If they truly believed it, they would have said it in the United States.
They came home, saw the backlash - and APOLOGIZED. One of them did an interview in Australia and said it was a JOKE.
Then, when the political atmosphere changed and being anti-Bush was popular, they decided to say, "You know what? We don't take it back. We meant it."
That's not freedom. That's hypocrisy.

Seriously, get a sense of humor or fuck off.

In the words of the great Bob Dylan, "Then you better start swimming, or you'll sink like a stone, for the times they are a-changing."
Thank you,

I don't know anything about Sophia Brown, but I do know one thing... she could not have been in the same class as Barack Obama because Columbia did not accept women until a later class. Maybe she was a freshman while Obama was a senior..? I do not know, that's just tangential. Oh, and here is how I sum up yesterday: OVERKILL!
By I*heart*Todd, on January 21, 2009 18:47:51
By Yes, I'm Black, on January 21, 2009 19:10:54
#181 Yes I'm Black, umm is it common knowledge on campus whether Barack went by Barry 24/7?? Or, did he just do it around the white devils because he thought that his ratio of pheomelanin and eumelanin might keep him from scheming his way to pres of the Law Review.

There was an inauguration yesterday? Man, did I miss out! Every channel I tried to tune into yesterday was showing reruns of the Planet of the Apes...
And this, my white friends, is what makes you so utterly pathetic.

can i say, can i just say i love you all guys. i do Not need any other entertainment. love you todd but i was curious what is your opinion about your post?
By anonymous, on January 22, 2009 10:29:28

By anonymous, on January 22, 2009 16:43:24
OMG Todd... I always secretly thought I might be in love with you, but this post just proved it!
Stick it to the man. x

So what is it? Is he "half white" or is he black. Fucking racists can only make up your mind when you want to pick and choose a good story to go along with it.

You're an idiot. Actually, you are all idiots.
By Smardi, on January 23, 2009 18:46:22
