Bale deserves public humiliation for this horrible episode - I hope he issues some kind of apology. What a dick. You can be annoyed, you can explain yourself to the person who has upset you, but he was absolutely indefensibly ridiculous. He said it over and over again - "are you a professional?" Well I have news for you - professionals don't act like that. Ever. What a pussy.
So, there is a terrible profissional in this film, and it's not Bale. For all we know, he is a great actor who knows what he's doing, while the other guy keeps disturbing the production.
I say, let Batman scream to an amateur as much as he needs, if it's in the best interest of the film...
Bale is just a overgrown brat! He is the one who needs to show some professionalism. I will not see another movie with him in it. Is your 15 minutes of fame over yet?
#3, professionals DO act like that all the time. It's actually one of the things that make a good professional, contrary to the stupid popular belief of good professionals being defined as sheep who lower their heads all the time.
A bad professional has to be yelled at when he insists in doing wrong...
Disgusting. Armed with the power of celebrity, his bully tendencies are on override. He is incarnate of the Nazi death camp guard, the school yard bully, and the sadist bureaucrat at the DMV.
Not gonna lie, this makes him a million times hotter to me. Haven't we all wanted to go off on an incompetent coworker? I only wish I had the luxury of doing that. From what Bale said, the DP had already done this once or twice. The effin' DP! Shows how much control McG has over his set. All he can do is whimper out a "I didn't see it happen."
#9...he didn't slap his Mom & sis. He got angry at them when they showed up at his hotel to shake him down for $$$ and then insulted his wife. They then went to the police and filed a assault charge on him, which in the UK can be verbal assault which he was charged with. He probably yelled at them like he did this guy and really who cares.
I'm with #3 on this one. If you guys think its EVER ok to act this way in a work place you must work at a gas station. Any corporation has HR and must provide a safe place for the OTHERS. No this is some asshole who thinks he's more important than anyone and has never been corrected as a child. You wonder why he and his family have problems....Bingo...stop making excuses for him like everyone always did because you want to suck his dick. This is not the first time and it wont be the last. To think this is how a professional anything acts in front of people is unbelievable! I guess thats why the defenders are "anonymous".
Holy shit. You don't treat your co-workers (or anyone else) this way, and for those saying this behavior is acceptable, here's a newsflash, the people you work with think you're a dick. This is not about being PC, this is about acting like a professional. Professionals actually DON'T yell and scream at the people they work with. They act, yes, PROFESSIONALLY. Meaning they take a deep breath, pull the guy aside and tell them that they need to pick up their level of work, or there will be consequences, such as being let go. You don't yell and scream at someone and humiliate them that way. People fuck up, and if it happens continually after being spoken to, you let them go and get someone else. Seriously, you've got to be some special kind of douchebag to defend this shit.
I guess people can't get pissed anymore... Something tells me this whole thing was out of context. Sure CB went on & on & on & on, but it was probably a crazy domino effect of circumstances.... I bet it was one of those long days...into night... into morning... nothing was going right, everybody was a little frazzled, on edge & loopy, maybe hadn't eaten, and he just snapped. That doesn't happen?? if anything this makes him hotter! grrrrr!
ha...to all those people posting about never yelling, getting yelled at or people occasionaly acting like d-bags at the office. Where are you working, HappyImaginaryFunLand,Inc??? Seriously, let me know cause I want to send over my resume.
bale was really depressed (marital problems, heath's death) and having a rough day, and apparently the scene that was interrupted was one of the most intense scenes in the entire movie.
"The audio tape was recorded during a particularly intense scene between Bale's John Connor character and actress Bryce Dallas Howard, who plays his on-screen wife."
i feel bad for the DP, but bale was just having a terrible day.
It sounds like the other guy was arguing that what he did was not a big deal. That would piss me off, too. I don't blame Bale for getting pissed and saying fuck 37 times. Too many people try to defend their utter thoughtlessness. Could he have handled it better? Sure, so could the other guy.
I side with Christian Bale, I'm looking forward to T4 and this dumbass is attempting to ruin it. Lighting guy is probably union, so he couldn't be fired. WTF, you don't walk onto a scene like that. He did repeatedly. I say lay off CB, he has that crazy mom and sister to deal with. Everyone loses their temper.
Bale's defenders act as if this guy was performing heart surgery or finding a cure for cancer. Bale was filming a scene for fucking TERMINATOR. His behavior was completely uncalled for.
Bale is hot, but it's not surprising he's a jackass. He's a real method actor I guess. Anyway, I can see flipping out as things build up, particularly considering his family problems, but to continue his rant and not let go was off the deep end.
And unless he was forced to stay there, I don't know why the DP kept trying to talk to Bale when he was clearly not clear-headed.
Everyone loses their temper, and everyone fucks up once in a while. Why is one ok and the other is not?
Bottom line, someone yells at me like that in my office, I go directly to my supervisor, who will go directly to that person and advise them that they are not to treat me that way and there will be consequences. I feel bad for anyone who works in an office where you're allowed to yell at each other like that. That's absolutely unacceptable that anyone would think that's ok.
the man screamed for almost 4 minutes. get pissed off and yell, fine, but that's a long time to be screaming like that. face it, bale ass-kissers, the man's a psycho. just like all these pathetic women who thinks this makes him hotter.
Dp should've just walked away, say nothing. would not have been a big deal. As for Bale bitchin'? If it makes a film any better & not make me feel like I wasted 10 bucks seeing it with mistakes like this? BITCH ON MY BROTHER! That's a actor that cares about his craft more than a paycheck. I got his back on this one. Bravo!
What a self-important little bully he is! He could have gotten his point across in a 30 second tirade - anything over that is just using the DP in a self-serving way - to humilliate the guy in an effort to feed his own ego. I'll never see another movie of his. I thought he was a pretty good actor, but now, not so much - just a prick.
I love how AnonymousJoe can flip out and scream his head off every now and then, but apparently actors never get to trip up or yell for more than 0.9 seconds.
From the sound of it, dude was having marital problems, a friend died, and he was having family tension while filming a very hard (and reportedly very bad) movie, which this little douche was fucking up. Give him a break. He's being compared to a Nazi death camp guard for momentarily blowing his top? Freaks.
Let's be clear -- It's a fucking MOVIE SET, not an OFFICE. The norms and "rules" are completely different. The do's and don'ts are completely different. The culture is by no stretch of the imagination corporate. Fuck up the scene, get what you deserve. Fuck up the scene, get fired on the spot. That's how it is. If you don't like it, either find another job or suck it up don't fuck up again.
No matter what the title hierarchy may be in reality, A-list talent governs all in a film. A DP is expendable. A Christian Bale is not.
So the guy made a mistake stuff happens. What is really interesting is Bale's response to it. His tirade was WAY too long to be just about the guy messing up that scene. Bale has a history of anger issues from his youth. Seems like he just didn't grow up or no one had the balls to call him on it. A bitch slap or two when he was a teen might have done the trick. All said, he can do what he wants, but he shouldn't be surprised if it backlashes on him. Ten years from now no one will know who he is. I barely remember that he was the OTHER actor in the Dark Knight.
This isn't a PC issue... so all of you who say "fuck the PC bullshit" must have been born from donkeys, because REAL professionals can get upset without acting like as jackass as illustrated by Bale's actions. He goes on for damn near 4 minutes (probably longer than that since he lacks the ability to let shit go or listen to reason) and even threatens the guy. So, how does being a repeatability tyrant, threatening crew members and COMPLETELY changing the mood on set professional?
Sure, the guy accidentally got into the scene, and that was poor judgmental on his part, but it's not like he was skipping through it. He was trying to do his job and inspect the lighting which he would have been blamed for not doing if Bale had an issue with the light effects.
In My opinion, the guy apologized more than he should of since he's a set director and Bale is just a puppet. And if anyone needs to get their ass kicked, it's Bale's for being a self absorbed douche.
Those of you who are against Christian Bale are on the wrong side and clearly don't understand the nature of acting at this level. This isn't a normal workplace. The "product" that's being crafted and sold is human emotions.
For certain scenes, an actor has to "rev up" emotionally, creating emotion mixed with a heavy dose of adrenaline. The actor uses concentration to control and focus that emotion on the scene. If the scene is interrupted and the concentration broken, all of that adrenalized emotion HAS to go somewhere.
This was the 2nd time the DP (somebody who SHOULD know better as one of the highest-ranking members of the crew) had blundered into the scene. He clearly has no respect for what an actor has to go through to create a moment like that.
Think of the last time you were in a highly adrenalized state. Maybe, a car wreck, or you're child was about to put its hand on a hot stove. You didn't ACT with reason, you REacted with adrenalized emotion and had to get it out of your system over the next 10-15 minutes or more. Professionals in this business know that.
It's funny, because all the CB cock suckers justifying his actions act like they would appreciate and even TOLERATE someone else speaking to them like that. Wait until the next time it happens to you and see if you are still defending the ass who's "just depressed and passionate or passionately depressed."
Real professionals don't bring their baggage to work, they take it on vacation. If you aren't mentally able to handle the stresses of life without falling off the deep end, then don't put yourself in stressful situations and act like others can't be human as well.
I would have been fired because I would taken a tongue lashing for fucking up the scene, but the tirade should only last so long. He went on and on and on. I think at that 30 second mark I would have said shut the fuck up and get on with your damn scene already. Then I would have let him hit me and sued the fucking fuck out of him, and cashed the fucking check he'd fucking write me to drop the fucking lawsuit.
Honestly, this is probably made out to be a lot worse than it was. My understanding of the matter is that this lighting guy walked onto the live set multiple times to check his lights. I'm sure we didn't hear the first two times when Bale was calm about it, but we indeed heard the last time when he blew a gasket (like any of us would).
It's not a matter of him being a celebrity, it's a matter of him trying to do a job, and someone else repeatedly fucking it up. Granted, he should've handled it more calmly, but sometimes people lose their tempers. It also wouldn't surprise me if he apologized later.
#38, YOU'RE on the wrong side of common sense. Don't compare life threatening situations with the frivolity of some over rated movie.
Furthermore, most people against Bale's rant aren't justifying the DP's mistakes. He deserved to get yelled at and all human's get upset, but does that give Bale the right to go on and on like a lunatic, proceed to fuck up the mood on set for everyone, and demean and threaten people just because he was "immersed in a 'challenging scene?'" No. Does his personal issues, many of which were probably facilitated by his own doing, give him the right to be a jerk to THAT extent? Again, no.
If you can sit here and excuse his behavior then you are the one with the inability to comprehend.
No Mr. Bale, it is you and I that are done. Who the fuck does this guy think he is? I for one have never seen or will see any movie that this little bitch is in. COME TRASH MY LIGHTS FUCKER, I'LL KNOCK YOUR FUCKING CHICKLETS OUT!
Some actors are really big on not having anyone in their eye line. I've seen it a million times. HOWEVER, usually when someone does it, they don't get reamed out in the middle of set. The AD will pull the person aside and talk to them.
THIS was disgusting.
The Director of Photography is not some low level PA who has never been on a set before. A DOP is one of the top people on set and if HE thought he needed to readjust a light, so be it. I have seen it many times before.
I will NOT be watching anymore Christian Bale movies, fuck him and his big ego.
This is unacceptble... acting is Bale's JOB. Correlate this to your own life and see if it would be okay. I for example work in an office. Imagine if I were giving a presentation to my team and Amy in Accounting started talking or did something during said presentation. Would I start going ape shit on her and berate her in front of everyone for 5 minutes? No, it's completely absurd that he - and other actors - think they can act this way. And that others allow them to get away with it. Ridiculous.
There is no excuse for this behavior. Well....just one. The excuse for someone to post is on the internet for all to enjoy! Christian Bale is a total asshole, but damn that was entertaining! (#31 was right. This tantrum was indeed Buddy Rich-esque!)
Anyone defending this immature little prick is declaring themselves an idiot. I don't really give a rats ass if the DP messed up numerous times - that's not how you handle it if you're an adult. The only thing worse than his ridiculous tirade is the suck ups around him letting him get away with it. I can't wait till the day he bullies the wrong person.
The guy should had PUNCH bale's stupid fucking mouth and break some of his fucking teeth bale thinks he is the shit but he is not he is just a piece of shit T4 is going to suck shit
Was the guy actualy walking ON to the set, and ruining the scene by bieng on camera?
OR
Was he walking AROUND< BEHIND the lady Bale was talking to in the scene, distracting him, and looking at his lighting system? Does bale think everyone should FREEZE while the master acts?
HE sounds like a dick, and hes been spoiled by bieng rich and english. Any guy I know would have beat his ass.
"You don't understand the work! He's an actor!" "Maybe he hadn't eaten" Bahahaha. He is an ACTOR. He's not saving the world! The sooner you people realise these people are not god and they don't actually give a fuck about you the better. Losing your temper like this is not normal behaviour. People who lose their nut like this are the type of people who throw their kid off a bridge in a fit of anger (as per the latest news head line where I live). Oh and any woman who finds this "hot" probably also loves getting smacked around by their old man.
Hope this pig Christian NEVER has children, they will be so emotionally scared from their daddy's temper tantrums. How old is Christian? Because he behave like a spoiled little kid.

He shouldve yelled at that at him in his annoying batman voice.

If Bale had a profile on Match.com I bet Brittany Spears would pick him out.
Looking at the posts, how many publicists does this guy have? Jeebus.
By Morgan, Director, on February 3, 2009 08:50:25
I used to think he was so hot, but wow, his personality sucks. Let's see how many fans he has left after this.

Love,

Ridiculous.
By baram, on February 3, 2009 12:46:27
There is no excuse for this behavior. Well....just one. The excuse for someone to post is on the internet for all to enjoy! Christian Bale is a total asshole, but damn that was entertaining! (#31 was right. This tantrum was indeed Buddy Rich-esque!)
By Santos, on February 3, 2009 15:51:54
Anyone defending this immature little prick is declaring themselves an idiot. I don't really give a rats ass if the DP messed up numerous times - that's not how you handle it if you're an adult. The only thing worse than his ridiculous tirade is the suck ups around him letting him get away with it. I can't wait till the day he bullies the wrong person.
By Andy, on February 3, 2009 16:32:22
The guy should had PUNCH bale's stupid fucking mouth and break some of his fucking teeth bale thinks he is the shit but he is not he is just a piece of shit T4 is going to suck shit
By bale is a moron, on February 3, 2009 16:59:49
WAIT WAIT WAIT,
Was the guy actualy walking ON to the set, and ruining the scene by bieng on camera?
OR
Was he walking AROUND< BEHIND the lady Bale was talking to in the scene, distracting him, and looking at his lighting system?
Does bale think everyone should FREEZE while the master acts?
HE sounds like a dick, and hes been spoiled by bieng rich and english. Any guy I know would have beat his ass.

What a fucking tool. Can anyone say 'roid rage?
By Christian Bale Is A Douche, on February 3, 2009 23:17:38
"You don't understand the work! He's an actor!" "Maybe he hadn't eaten" Bahahaha. He is an ACTOR. He's not saving the world! The sooner you people realise these people are not god and they don't actually give a fuck about you the better. Losing your temper like this is not normal behaviour. People who lose their nut like this are the type of people who throw their kid off a bridge in a fit of anger (as per the latest news head line where I live). Oh and any woman who finds this "hot" probably also loves getting smacked around by their old man.
By Chant, on February 4, 2009 01:13:01
Hope this pig Christian NEVER has children, they will be so emotionally scared from their daddy's temper tantrums.
How old is Christian? Because he behave like a spoiled little kid.
By anonymous, on February 4, 2009 01:17:33
#53...to me, it sounded like the DOP was walking around behind the set. He was not walking INTO shot.
