Here's a thought. maybe Joaquin thinks that since rappers are talentless and end up becoming actors, he's going to go from an actor to a talentless rapper.
I thought that when he left for the music business, he was going to be some kind of a rock singer with meaningful songs and lyrics, but he's a rapper? Are you kidding me? The guy is fucking nuts. I bet a year or two from now he's back in the movies.
TODD, Get rid of these ContentLink ads. These are the most annoying things on the internet. What the hell were you thinking!?
the fact that he's got the exact same getup in all these "crazy" sightings is a giveaway - it's a stanislavsky marketing method for his next project: the wrestler meets walk the line.
A much better project would be to become Jennifer Aniston's boyfriend without letting her know you were pretending and taping the whole thing. You could get at least one full season on "E!" out of that.
a million dollars in the bank? thats it? thats not that hard to do for any average person. WTF did this guy do with all his money? I would have expected him to have 40 or 50 million dollars at least.
This whole quitting acting and becoming a rapper is all an act, it just smacks of Sacha Baron Cohen(Borat, Ali G), he's doing a documentary right now and I just bet that this whole thing is just an act for the documentary. Here's the listing for it on his IMDB page: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1356864/
If it's not then he's really lost his mind because I just can't see Joaquin Phoenix waking up one morning and saying, "You know what, I think I'm gonna quit acting and become a gangster rapper." I mean because when you hear the name Joaquin Phoenix I know the first thing that comes to my mind is rapper.
He ought to say "Bye! Good!" to this joke of a career, and get back to making movies.
I don't know why so many actors are delusional, but once they get some measure of success, they want to try something else. Just be an actor; it's the horse that got you there, and you should continue to ride it. Don't try to be a singer or a rapper or anything else; just be an actor & let the truly talented singers sing...
lol. i love #12's idea. as a joke, and also seriously. they'd make quite the couple. can you imagine? the media would go nuts over it! JOANNIFER PHOENISTON!
Is there a video/recording of his "hip hop" music anywhere?? I'd like to see him actually "rap."
I guess I understand the whole idea of doing a doc. on the sociological impact of changing image yadda yadda but he's totally unbelievable. Acting shocked when people make fun of you for this just smacks of faking it. Hate to say it because it's usually not true but... baaaaad acting.
Everything that I've seen and read so far point to the fact that this whole thing is one big joke, I've read a few things from people who were at the taping of his interview on David Letterman, and they've all said that the stiff, cold performance you saw from him during the on air interview was completely different from the way he was acting before & after the on air segments, they said he would have his glasses off and was laughing & smiling with Letterman & other people when the cameras were off, but when the cameras would come back on it was back to the stiff cold persona.
Letterman has a history of going along with things like this, everyone remember the Jerry Lawler & Andy Kaufman feud? The whole rapping thing is just another role he's doing, but he's doing it for his documentary. Watch I guarantee that when thisdocumentary comes out your gonna get the whole story from him on how he was just pulling a joke on everyone by trying to become a rapper, and it will probably make for a funny movie.
"when this documentary comes out your gonna get the whole story from him on how he was just pulling a joke on everyone by trying to become a rapper, and it will probably make for a funny movie."
yeah, except that everyone is wise to his "joke" and won't give two shits about whatever "documentary" he puts out.

Yeah, nothing helps "street cred" with the brothas like bragging about how you wisely invest your money in interest-bearing assets.
In his next show, he'll be rapping about taking care of his children and wearing pants that fit.

He should be committed...
By anonymous, on March 12, 2009 07:59:02
This is staged... all of it.
Watch it come out later on DVD as some sort of Kaufman-esque ripoff.

I propose a duet with Chris Brown and Mr.phoenix.
At least he has the bullshit rapper bravado down.
By anonymous, on March 12, 2009 10:49:12
Only a Million Bucks in the bank?? Dude, that is NOT brag worthy. Maybe he'd better shave and get back to "work."

Anyhow, it's all so very fake and he's not even doing a good job at trying to make it look real. F-A-K-E

Joaquin is a weirdo, but at least he's succeeding at two things: marketing himself and he's entertaining people
