The Golden Girls were way more than actresses on a stage to us single women trying to survivie in a world of couples. They were my only friends. Friends I could count on being there for me everyday no matter what was shaking me down at the time. Some of us single women needed strong, interesting role models that enjoyed being single and living independently without a male to design our self-esteem, our looks and our lives. We women are smart people. Our biggiest virtue and vice is the overpowering womanly need to nurture. We can live without men but most of us feel incomplete without a mate. I settled 20 years ago, and am still with the man in my house. Love and marriage takes a lot of give and take for both. This is the only way we can grow in love. Lives are created day-by-day. My Blessings to Bea's family. I loved her as much as all the girls who got me through rough times with a laugh. My love to all the Golden Girls!
I remember Maude and for some reason I think she may have been on SOAP too. She was a tall woman and took a lot of heat for having the audacity to be a stage and screen actress who was taller than 5'3". She took a lot of shit for that, which is unbelievable petty. Then again, look how vicious things get on this website sometime. Nothing has really changed.
The Golden Girls are on cable at least two times a day. It's still very popular in syndication. Frankly it's not just old timers who watch them. It's a very funny show. The roles were well suited to the actresses. I remember having a trio of teenagers who use to chat that absolutely loved them. I'm sure she will be very much missed by her fans, peers, family and friends. That's two of them that are gone now.
Still popular in syndication? Hell, I sat down and watched an entire Golden Girls marathon while cleaning the house. That shit is still hilarious. And Bea Arthur was especially funny during the Comedy Central Roast of Pam Anderson, especially when she read from Anderson's two books.
Amazing. We now have Betty White and Rue McClanahan left. A generation is passing. RIP Bea. You were the bag of Tostitos.
Bea was a truely gifted actress she was wonderful on the Golden Girls and will be missed. I don't know how many reruns of that show I have watched but the show is a true classic. You go girls
Stick to what you know. Ripping on someone as talented and as beloved as Bea Arthur is a bad call. It makes an otherwise brilliant site look amateurish. Because you are too young to remember or appreciate her talent, you should simply stay with the no-talent teenaged HW trash you know so well.
