4. I'm no fan of Madonna but wide-scale birth control needs to be instituted in every African nation. Families put their children in orphanages because they can't give them the care that they need. It's a horrible situation, but Madonna is trying to help. How many people would adopt a 4 year old?? That's almost unheard of because everyone wants an infant. I give her a little credit.

Why is this such a bad thing for this little girl (other than the paps being in her little face)? David was so sick he probably would have died if Madonna didn't take him in. Also...why do people feel this is their business. The little girl will have a better life....I'd adopt if I could afford to take money from my household for all the fees and traveling expenses!

15. I'm not entirely clear why Madonna attracts so much criticism. But ultimately we should remember that most people in Malawi do not live beyond the age of 50, Mercy's life expectancy increases straight away by being adopted. That should be enough in itself.
    
    And Madonna seems like type of person who is genuinely interested in other cultures so I can't see her denying her adopted children future access their racial heritage. After all, she's already taken David back to meet his biological father in Malawi, which is unheard of in formal adoptions in the West.
    
    And lastly, Madonna has shone a light on a country that most of us hadn't even heard of before she went there. Yes, perhaps its cultural make-up might shift a little with Western awareness, but at least Madonna has done something that will actively SAVE LIVES.

She could give a new and brilliant life to each of those kids at the orphanage AND MORE BESIDES, if she cared enough.
    
    The thing is, then she couldn't wear Mercy on her arm like a designer handbag and get her picture in the tabloids. Nobody would get to see her strutting around if she simply sent enormous checks to Malawi, so she's going to devote a few million to sending Mercy to elite schools and buying Versace shoes for her, and leaving her with nannies.
    
    So no, I'm not impressed with how saintly Mad Madge is being. She could do infinitely more, but she's doing the publicity-whore thing she's done her entire life.
    
    Come on, does anyone actually think this publicity-hungry old hag actually gives a damn about third-world children? She did it before because she wanted the kind of press Angelina was getting for adopting her children, and to try to make herself look younger. Now she's doing it because everyone is laughing at her for her divorce, and to try to make herself look like an awesome mother and a great humanitarian. Poor Mercy is just a tool.
    
    And doing something good for rotten selfish reasons does not make you a good person, people! It just means that your rotten selfishness is not QUITE as bad for the rest of the world as it would otherwise have been. Even if doing something good was a side-effect of her actions, Madonna is still a malignant boil. I wouldn't put it past her to send Mercy back once she's milked all the pictures she can out of this.

This is why she goes to Africa to adopt, instead of adopting a US kid; she can throw her money around & bully people in Africa but not here; she can circumvent the normal 2 year waiting period by pretending to pay money to charity (hint: the money that she supposedly paid to a Malawi charity never got there) & have people bow & fetch for her; here, she'd be treated like every other parent trying to adopt.
