It's the tylenol, even at 325mg per pill (the usual is 500), that would decimate the liver over time. Opiates, on their own, do not cause any serious damage to organs, they just happen to be addictive and in too high of a dose, can cause respirations to cease.

Just one of those fuckers knocked me out for hours, and I'm 200lbs.+ and brawny. I was once given 2.5mg/pill for infection pain, and even that knocked me out! I eventually became addicted for a few weeks before I realized what a fucking troll I was turning into. The withdrawal was one of the hardest things I ever experienced. 34. Vicodin is pretty cheap - even at 40 pills a day. Hydrocodone has been around forever and generics are ridiculously inexpensive. To rack up that kind of bill in a month he had to have been on new drugs (like lexapro) or something else that doesn't have a generic to it.
    
    Anyhow - I can't really believe this story - it's too asinine. I'm sure this guy was on a ton of drugs and was addicted (after having so many plastic surgeries that require pain relieving narcotics for recovery, it's not all that shocking that's he became an addict), but 60K on drugs w/ 40 pills of vicodin is crazy.

    Wow-Demerol made you sick? It made me higher than a Georgia pine but I still felt pain (I was given Demerol during a miscarriage before they did my D&C). Now Vicodin is the opposite-I felt NO pain and was knocked the hell out for what seemed like 3 days. I guess the body has different ways of responding to different drugs. Some can't take Darvocet because it makes them loopy; I can pop them like they're coming out of a Pez dispenser and still function. It all depends on someone's tolerance I guess.

Think about it this way...Is it easier for you to tell you kid to clean his room if you also give him a cookie, or is it easier if you just tell him clean his room. We would still do our jobs, but the military finds it easier to give us meds instead of really seeing why we hurt....why we hurt is long work days, carrying around 50 plus pounds of gear everyday, jumping out of planes, 6 day work weeks in the desert for 15 months, PT at the start of that 16 hour work day, and many other reasons....not bitching about it, those are just some of the reasons. Nobody really supervises the military, as far as giving meds to troops is concerned, so they give us narcotics "like candy" so we work more and whine less. Hope that answer works.
