Just to clarify, you don't hate yourself if you undergo this surgery. If anything it takes a deep sense of understanding and respect for yourself and how you feel, regardless of what other people tell you to be and feel. And, to be clear again, it takes more courage than any of you prejudiced dickheads could imagine having. There's absolutely no reason to be so ignorant.

I am neither gay nor transgendered but I DO have a masters degree in biomedical science and can say with confidence that transgendered people are NOT neurologically identical to others of their sex - the one they are born with. The most simple way to describe it is that the brain thinks the individual is one sex, while the body develops into the other sex. There are actual parts of the brain that have been researched and shown to correlate with the gender the transgender individual feels, rather the one represented by their genitals. THAT is what Bono meant by saying gender is between the ears, not the legs.

It's a fact that most people who undergo gender reassignment surgery end up committing suicide. That's because thinking you're "transgendered" is a mental illness. You can be born gay or straight, or bisexual, but whatever chromosomes you're born with designate your sex. My best friend is a straight transgendered guy who wishes he were a woman. And I make fun of him for it all the time. To his face. And he laughs. Because it's pretty messed up and it's funny.
Transgenderism is simply identifying with the gender role that is opposite your own physical sex. In other words, my friend would much rather wear pretty dresses and paint his toenails than a tuxedo. Thankfully for me, he doesn't. Because he wouldn't make a very pretty woman.
But it's my opinion that having surgery to physically become the opposite sex is ridiculous. Go ahead and dress and act like a boy or a girl or whatever you want. But to spend thousands of dollars to cut up your naughty bits into the opposite of what they are seems like one of the most unnecessary things someone could do. It's more pointless than than the Snuggie. You can't change your DNA. Just deal with it in your head, where it is.

Finally, just get a sense of humor. My ridiculous transgendered friend has a great one, and he's much better off for it. Not everything needs to be taken so freaking seriously, this blog especially. I make jokes about everybody, because we're all different. Our differences are what make us unique, and just because someone makes a joke about someone who is different than they are, doesn't mean they're racist or sexist or homophobic. It means they understand that the differences between people are FUNNY.
The biggest reason some people are pissed about Todd's post is not because they care about or are sensitive to the plight of gays or transgendered people (they don’t and they aren’t) but because they've been brainwashed into defending these groups by TV, movies and their HS and/or college teachers. By the same token, they've also often been trained to disdain people who are openly religious, politically conservative or even just white, among other things.
Todd's post merely set off the subconscious trip-wire mechanism implanted in their brains setting off their mental "this-is-bad" alarms which then gave them the perceived moral authority to weigh in on this subject with the appropriate disdain and stern judgement.
They in fact enjoyed this post as it gave them chance to show off their moral credentials and what "good" people they are - to others, but especially to themselves - (always important in a totalitarian society), as the chances afforded to do so are more and more rare in a society with such a homogeneity of opinion rigidly controlled, enforced and perpretrated by the powers mentioned above and their unwitting disciples.
The funny part is that these same people defending Bono's behaviour (and that of other transgendered people) today would have been revolted and disgusted at the very same ideas just a few decades ago. They will call this change “progress”, but it is not. It is merely the supplantation of one majority paradigm and opinion for another. There is nothing inherently progressive about it nor can this “progress” be measured in any way as it is never made clear to what end it is we are supposing to be progressing. In truth, the whole idea of progress as it relates to this issue is wholly irrelevant.
Unfortunately, what our “good” defenders have shown is only how well trained, submitted and pliable minds are and that mass-indoctrination can and indeed does still work; even in such an supposedly enlightened and progressive society as our own. yeah, umm...i usually don't give a fuck what Todd thinks and it takes a whole hell of a lot to offend me. i'm transgender and i've found a lot of the Chaz stuff pretty funny so far, because most of it didn't come across as a personal attack so much as random poking-fun at pretty much anyone and everyone.

There are a few big things wrong here. 1. This is not an innocent exercise of free speech on Todd's part. Trans people are much more likely to be victims of violence and murder (someone who is visibly transgender is estimated to have a 1 in 12 chance of being murdered, see http://www.hrc.org/issues/1508.htm), and people like Todd perpetuating the belief that they are freaks helps to dehumanize trans people so that their murderers feel that its OK to hurt and kill trans people. 2. Sex is not simply "ovaries/vagina/XX chromosomes = female, penis/balls/XY chromosomes = male" There are people who have XY chromosomes but a female body because their body does not respond to the effects of testosterone. There are women who naturally have extra testosterone, so their bodies look very masculine. There are people born with both male and female sex organs. Sex is clearly not just male or female, and as someone else noted, transpeople generally have neurological characteristics associated with the gender their body does not resemble. If it makes some people happy to get nose and boob jobs and no one gets too worked up over that or tells those people that they are mentally ill freaks, why do some of you have such a problem with plastic surgery for changing gender? Todd has always been an insensitive ass and sometimes its funny when it is just ridiculing an individual for wearing a stupid outfit or saying something dumb, but this oversteps the line because he is contributing to violence against transpeople and the medically wrong belief that there are just 2 categories for sex and gender.

I am neither gay nor transgendered but I DO have a masters degree in biomedical science and can say with confidence that transgendered people are NOT neurologically identical to others of their sex - the one they are born with. The most simple way to describe it is that the brain thinks the individual is one sex, while the body develops into the other sex. There are actual parts of the brain that have been researched and shown to correlate with the gender the transgender individual feels, rather the one represented by their genitals. My best friend is a straight transgendered guy who wishes he were a woman. And I make fun of him for it all the time. To his face. And he laughs. Because it's pretty messed up and it's funny.
Transgenderism is simply identifying with the gender role that is opposite your own physical sex. In other words, my friend would much rather wear pretty dresses and paint his toenails than a tuxedo. Thankfully for me, he doesn't. Because he wouldn't make a very pretty woman.
But it's my opinion that having surgery to physically become the opposite sex is ridiculous. Go ahead and dress and act like a boy or a girl or whatever you want. But to spend thousands of dollars to cut up your naughty bits into the opposite of what they are seems like one of the most unnecessary things someone could do. It's more pointless than than the Snuggie. You can't change your DNA. Just deal with it in your head, where it is.
Also, it's Todd's blog or whatever. He'll write what he wants and you don't really have to read it if you don't want to.
Finally, just get a sense of humor. My ridiculous transgendered friend has a great one, and he's much better off for it. Not everything needs to be taken so freaking seriously, this blog especially. The biggest reason some people are pissed about Todd's post is not because they care about or are sensitive to the plight of gays or transgendered people (they don’t and they aren’t) but because they've been brainwashed into defending these groups by TV, movies and their HS and/or college teachers. By the same token, they've also often been trained to disdain people who are openly religious, politically conservative or even just white, among other things.
Todd's post merely set off the subconscious trip-wire mechanism implanted in their brains setting off their mental "this-is-bad" alarms which then gave them the perceived moral authority to weigh in on this subject with the appropriate disdain and stern judgement.
They in fact enjoyed this post as it gave them chance to show off their moral credentials and what "good" people they are - to others, but especially to themselves - (always important in a totalitarian society), as the chances afforded to do so are more and more rare in a society with such a homogeneity of opinion rigidly controlled, enforced and perpretrated by the powers mentioned above and their unwitting disciples.
The funny part is that these same people defending Bono's behaviour (and that of other transgendered people) today would have been revolted and disgusted at the very same ideas just a few decades ago. They will call this change “progress”, but it is not. It is merely the supplantation of one majority paradigm and opinion for another. There is nothing inherently progressive about it nor can this “progress” be measured in any way as it is never made clear to what end it is we are supposing to be progressing. In truth, the whole idea of progress as it relates to this issue is wholly irrelevant.
Unfortunately, what our “good” defenders have shown is only how well trained, submitted and pliable minds are and that mass-indoctrination can and indeed does still work; even in such an supposedly enlightened and progressive society as our own. Economies, technologies, even societies, progress. Human nature does precious little. Just ask Mao, Lenin and Herr Hitler.
There is also a man named Pavlov who had a dog. You might want to ask him about it too.
In the meantime, sexually ambiguous or confused people will go on living their lives, dealing with the private agonies and joys their particular predilections bring, much in the same way they have been since before anyone claimed to care and probably long after everyone ceases to.
Many here have threatened to boycott this site because of Todd’s post, but I doubt a single reader actually will do so. Their personal pleasure in reading this blog far outweighs their purported concern for G/TG people. Their disdain and anger was just for show.

There are a few big things wrong here.
1. This is not an innocent exercise of free speech on Todd's part. Trans people are much more likely to be victims of violence and murder (someone who is visibly transgender is estimated to have a 1 in 12 chance of being murdered, see http://www.hrc.org/issues/1508.htm), and people like Todd perpetuating the belief that they are freaks helps to dehumanize trans people so that their murderers feel that its OK to hurt and kill trans people.
2. Sex is not simply "ovaries/vagina/XX chromosomes = female, penis/balls/XY chromosomes = male" There are people who have XY chromosomes but a female body because their body does not respond to the effects of testosterone. There are women who naturally have extra testosterone, so their bodies look very masculine. There are people born with both male and female sex organs. Sex is clearly not just male or female, and as someone else noted, transpeople generally have neurological characteristics associated with the gender their body does not resemble. If it makes some people happy to get nose and boob jobs and no one gets too worked up over that or tells those people that they are mentally ill freaks, why do some of you have such a problem with plastic surgery for changing gender?
Todd has always been an insensitive ass and sometimes its funny when it is just ridiculing an individual for wearing a stupid outfit or saying something dumb, but this oversteps the line because he is contributing to violence against transpeople and the medically wrong belief that there are just 2 categories for sex and gender.

And if she still remains with Chastity after the sex change, that means she does indeed like men. Therefore, that revokes her lesbian card. I did not say that gay people have a mental illness. I am not a "religious nut", in fact I am a practicing agnostic. The vast majority of gay people, both male & female, do not intentionally mutilate themselves and pretend to be something they are not. They do not surgically remove or alter their genitals in a sad attempt to "find their identity". Sorry, but normal rational people do not lop off body parts and have other ones sewn on. Let me make something clear. NO ONE with a healthy gender identity or sexuality talks about their sexual issues on Good Morning America. I don't care how hum drum your sexuality is, when someone asks you about your genitals, you say no comment, you don't make public declarations of your sexual history, and THEN do a follow up interview. Whatever Bono's issues or lack thereof, this is not a healthy, well-adjusted individual we're dealing with, but rather an attention whore who is pushing HIMSELF into the public eye.
