I have cable TV like most of America and I watch my fair share of it. But I really don't watch a lot of what we call regular television programs that come on the major networks (ABC,CBC,NBC,WB etc). I may watch the Academy Awards, maybe. I had no idea that the AMA was on the other night and I would not have watched it had I known it was on. I even stopped watching the MTV award shows because they stopped being interesting.
This all leads me to the 2 points I would like to make regarding Adam Lambert's performance.
1) He can't compare what he did to the people he did. They just aren't the same. There is a time and a place for those types of performances and as was noted above, it isn't during prime time on a major network. If he were to do a very tamed down performance at some night club where the patrons expected to see something outrageous then they would have a right to complain by saying that a lackluster show is more for middle America and not what they came to see.
A quick example: Bob Saget played the father on Full House and came off as down home Mr. Nice Guy on television. But his off-screen comedy routine is very dirty and funny. What Adam Lambert needs to learn is that you can have the best of both worlds but don't ever confuse the two.
2) What Adam Lambert and others like the Janet Jackson Superbowl fiasco did are exactly why people like myself watch mainstream television less and less, why they are dying networks.
If I want to see those kinds of things I can easily and readily watch them anytime I want on other cable stations. I know where to find my shock TV and I believe people such as myself don't want it on the AMA's or the Emmy's or any others. I just want something that I know won't confuse my kids or make for an uncomfortable atmosphere in my living room with my relatives.
