1. they put the wife on the outside of things, meaning that that the husband and this girl now have something between them, the "other woman" knows that the wife doesn't know, so it demeans the wife. 2. it is betrayal because it is lying by omission, and because see above. 3. it makes the wife feel like she's not enough 4. the secrecy of it makes the wife lose trust in husband. what else has he lied about, how could he have acted SO normal/nice/loving 5 minutes after sending that text etc. 5. the wife feels like a fucking dolt remembering all the times she's had sex with him since he started sexting/fucking the other woman 6. the fact that he kept a secret means he feels entitled to more than one woman, but didn't give her the option to have the same open commitment. 7. It's indicates such a lack of thought about the wife or her feelings or their relationship.
And even with physical cheating, those are the thoughts that hurt more than the actual act of penetration that occurred.
In addition to those common things, sexting also means the husband is f'in dumb enough to put himself in a really tempting situation.
Incidentally, I haven't been cheated on. So maybe there's a better answer out there. but this is what I imagine to be the case. :)
