Sipping a glass of wine is perfectly fine while pregnant. Hell, you can have more than one -- just don't get your blood alcohol level elevated. Sip a glass of wine or beer over the course of an hour, preferably with food. The USA is WAY too uptight about drinking during pregnancy.
Well, an actual OB/GYN stated that it wasn't a good idea...but fuck that. I am sure all of you are far more educated on the subject than an actual medical professional.
If she was doing shots and a beer bing, OK that's a problem. A glass of wine? Really? What about the millions that smoke during pregnacy, that's way more of an issue.
go drink your wine while youre pregnant somewhere with universal health insurance, but when youre in america you sober up like a civilized human being that gives a shit about symbiotic being inside you.
If you're a week past your due date and still haven't given birth a doctor might recommend a couple ounces of red wine with dinner. In some cases it gets the ball rolling. It's not wise to drink while the fetus is still developing as everything you drink is also absorbed by the fetus. It's not okay to attend a kegger while pregnant. Having a small glass of red wine at the end of the third trimester, however, is fairly harmless. Just make sure to consult a doctor first.
The relationship is not symbiotic, #9. Just ftr. The biggest danger is during the 1st trimester, when the neural tube is forming, and of course constant drinking is very harmful. Just google "fetal alcohol syndrome" and see what you come up with. It's personally not a chance I would take.

oh fuck off all you fear-mongering idiots. One glass of wine does not contain enough alcohol to affect your pregnancy. It's idiotic to think that it would. Doctors only suggest abstaining to cover their own asses. My doctor confirmed that and said a glass once in a while is fine. My two kids are awesome and perfectly healthy.
Well #26, you're a drunk slut who couldn't give up alcohol for a whole NINE months for both of your children b/c you're a big fucking lush.
Any idiot out there who is not willing to give up smoking, drugs, or alcohol for a measly 9 months does NOT deserve to have children. You're selfish pieces of crap with no willpower that risked the health of your unborn child b/c you wanted to have a drink. Great job being a dipshit!
No, one glass of wine is NOT ok until tests prove it is. We already know alcohol can cause fetal alcohol syndrome, even in small quantities.
Jesus, is it so hard for you to go without anyway? Why would you take the risk? Very selfish - I suppose it is easier to ruin someone else's life than to simply go without having a drink.
More concerning than the alcohol is the BPA found in most wine -- it causes male genital malformation and exposure to a fetus can also cause behavioral changes like feminization of boy's play, and increased aggression in girls. A major source of BPA to Americans is canned food -- but no one criticizes moms who eat canned goods.
AND there is a LOT more evidence suggesting that BPA is dangerous even at the lowest levels -- much more evidence than suggests alcohol is dangerous for a fetus at low levels.
AND none of you KNOW it is wine -- maybe it's Welches?
For every doctor who says not to drink a glass of wine per day while pregnant, there's 5 more that will tell you it's not going to do anything to the baby, especially if you're the kind of person who needs a glass of wine to chill out. Todd, you're a total idiot when it comes to this stuff.
She's known to be a wino so this isn't surprising. Besides the kid will be an idiot given the genetics it has to work with so if there are any ill effects to the kid from her drinking while pregnant it will be hard to identify them.
I bet the majority of people on here complaining about a pregnant woman having a glass of wine are either male or childless. You're not a doctor, you dont have kids, you do sound like an idiot.
@34: People who need a glass of wine to chill out? Are you talking about alcoholics?
I'm becoming less and less surprised about how stupid American kids are getting. Their washed-up sorority girls moms are drinking an "occasional bottle of win" every night because they misinterpretted "an occasional drink of alcohol probably won't hurt the baby, but its best to abstain" to "my doctor RECOMMENDED that I drink every night".
My sister in law was a heavy drinker with both of her pregnancies, and both kids are super dumb. The older one has FAS facial features, too. She would fill her wine glass to the top. Then repeated that 2-3 times. Drinking during pregnancy is terrible, but if you want that dumb ugly kid, help yourself. Isn't it funny that they have to make car seat laws? Some people are so stupid.
Alcohol debate aside, I've gotta say I'm with #23, I absolutely LOVE Muse! AND I love Radiohead, but Muse is their own thing. I've never heard of them being labeled as Radiohead's tribute band! Todd, you're confusing the masses. Bash on Kate Hudson all you want, but don't undermine a terrific band; I figured you for better musical taste than that! It's seriously a shame they just now won a Grammy - while also appearing to be riding the coattails of this infamous pregnancy - when their previous albums were just as incredible if not better. Just not as popular in America until this slut got knocked up. My hubby and I call her the next Yoko Ono, Matt Bellamy will live to regret impregnating this dimwit.
P.S. Why do we rarely see pics of her with her firstborn?? Plenty of pics sitting on a new guy's lap or strutting her stuff in a bikini. Should she really be bringing more kids in the world if she's such an absent mother?
If you cant give up alcohol for a pregnancy. A. you have no self control and B. Your making excuses for your lack of self worth that you need to drown out with a drink. Here is the problem with society. Educated people are not reproducing (1 maybe 2 kids or none) and the stupid people are and will continue to have (many) kids. Think about how the world will be in the next 50 years!
You're an idiot. A glass of wine a day during pregnancy has no effect on the pregnancy or fetus. Try doing a literature review in a medical library before opening your ignorant mouth.
Only in the U.S. are people paranoid by this. In Australia doctors recommend no more than one to two standard drinks per day while pregnant. In Europe it's the norm too. We all turned out fine. It's a cultural thing; it's not based in fact.
DUMB SLUT here - I have 3 healthy children - had a small glass of wine a few times during all my pregnancies. All doctors know that the occasional drink doesn't cause Fetal Alcohol syndrom but they can't SAY that b/c idiots like Todd will think that means all you can drink buffet is ok...American's need to learn about MODERATION (and Todd you have to SHUT THE HELL up about stuff you know nothing about - are you a little touchy about this for a reason? I think you know what I mean...)
Alcohol is poison, plain and simple. It should never be consumed when there is a baby inside...everything the mother eats and drinks, the baby does as well. And I am sure no one would give a baby alcohol after it was born, so why would it be ok when it is in the stomach?? stupid people.
#8 - how the hell do you figure that smoking while pregnant is "way more of an issue"?! they can pose exactly the same amount of problems and even if smoking IS worse for an unborn baby then alcohol, there is no way in fuck it is WAY more of an issue. Alcohol is horrible for unborn babies plain and simple and for you to degrade that idea by comparing it with smoking is just rediculous.
don't leave comments if ur just going to be an ignorant piece of shit...thanks.
After the first trimester a glass of wine is harmless. It's the fools who go on benders while they're pregnant that have messed up babies. FYI - I *am* a medical professional.
I love the site, but Todd maybe you should claim and raise some of your bastard children around the Raleigh area before you comment on parenting. From my extensive studying, most doctors say a glass of wine per day will not affect a baby. Case in point, my wife had maybe 7 glasses of wine during her pregnancy and our son is not only normal, he's fairly advanced. But we all enjoy our opinions. Oh and Flynt Flo$$y is my favorite rapper.
Toad, how many babies have you pushed out of your loose ass hole? NONE!!! So you don't know shit, try to remove your ethnocentrism for a moment, it's not a BIG deal if it's red wine in moderation. Americans are just a bunch of retarded drunks and to keep us away from alcohol, and becoming Ireland, they teach us from early on how bad ALL ALCOHOL is -Not True! Yes, Kate Hudson is probably a drunk slut whore, but her having red wine while knocked up is no big deal, the big deal is that the poor child she is carrying will have to come out of her worn expired vagina where rock stars go to die.
I'm a nurse. The only Doctors who say its ok to have wine or any alcohol are older ones who have not kept up on research. The idea of that having a glass or two a day is ok is not based on any research. All scientific research says you should not drink at all, and especially not early in the pregnancy.
LOL people know you can drink red wine while pregnant right. No more than a certain amount of ounces. Look it up in the medical journal LOL still surprised at the heated debate.
fyi french doctors allow pregnant women 1 single glass of red wine per day as a maximum. Some of them even recommend it and the french population is healthy, with no higher incidence of retarded/underweight/difformed babies 1 glass of wine does not make you a drunk
as long as you don't drink during the third trimester, everything should be fine. It's that last couple of months when the fetus is about to become human that you have to watch out.
What? SHOULD? I don't feel comfy with someone saying my baby "should" be fine.
Actually, since they're not saying:
"..blah, blah, blah, WILL be fine"
then I'm not going to condone ANY FUCKING DRINKING. Because since SHOULD BE FINE does not equal WILL BE FINE then you're just making shit up as you go.
Go anywhere outside the US and doctors say it's not a problem to have a glass of wine or beer once in awhile during the second and third trimesters (Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.) They just don't recommend it in the US because Americans have a tendency toward binge-drinking. You tell an American woman she can have a glass of wine while pregnant and she hears, "You can throw six shots of tequila once a week and it'll be fine."
Yeah, I'm #34 and I have a very close friend who was pregnant with twins, miscarried one twin at about 5 months and then lost the second one. With her next pregnancy, the doctor recommended a glass of wine per day as the effect of it was must less detrimental than most anti-anxiety and depression prescriptions out there.
Each of you saying that women who can't give up wine for nine months are dumb sluts, it's going to be your wife or girlfriend who needs to have a drink while pregnant to deal with your dumbass. For the record, I didn't drink while pregnant...the smell grossed me out.
Hahaha @ #67. "It's that last couple of months when the fetus is about to become human that you have to watch out" Ummm... because before that, it's a mutant alien that your body has to warp into a human being???
Clearly, your mother was drinking while she was preggers with you! Good job on being able to walk without running into a lamp post on a daily basis.
#47, you all "turning out fine" is certainly debatable. In my eyes, the vast majority of Euros and Aussies have been stricken by FAS...you're just too retarded to realize it.
Absurd to not be able to abstain. I had a sip of wine when I was pregnant and felt so guility after, not worth it. Odouls with 3 limes in it tastes enough like corona if you miss the taste!
#74: Coming from an American your comment carries no weight. You probably don't even own a passport or know where Europe even is. "What's Europe? That's a country, right?" Morons. The only weight Americans carry are around their big fat asses. Americans, on the whole, are the most retarded people on the planet. Bend over, China's about to fuck you up the ass. Yeah, you like that, don't ya.
I never drank one sip of alcohol during any of my pregnancies. It wasn't hard. I also didn't drink during the phases I breastfed. Again, it wasn't hard.
I love all the compulsive soon to be moms that can't go without a drink. It's not good for any baby. Read a book, fire a good neuron and try some freaking juice or milk. F'ing tards.
Damn, #76. Thanks for proving my point. You must be only mildly retarded though since you managed to spell "Europe" correctly. Congratulations! Now, go celebrate your superiority over your countrymen by brushing your teeth unassisted (just made sure to use the fuzzy end of your brush instead of the ouchy part)!
Chill everyone. She's not Native American'ing it with booze and super glue. If it were that damaging to drink wine while pregnant, all the italians on the planet would be retards. Jersey Shore excluded. They are absolute fucking retards.
if a doctor tells a patient that they should get a medical marijuana card, does that make it okay for everyone to smoke pot?
if a woman's doctor tells her it's okay to have a glass of wine every so often during the second and third trimester, or that she should do regular enemas to help alleviate bowel pressure as the fetus develops, or only have sex in a missionary position for her back pain (i figured i'd stay in the general and surrounding areas for the sake of conversation)...it's a decision made between a woman and a doctor who is privy to her medical history, family history, and general lifestyle.
it has NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU, or your neighbor, or your sister in law who has 3 great kids and drank all the time.
although it is acceptable in many parts of the world to drink small amounts of alcohol during pregnancy, i find it hard to believe that any doctor would advocate the idea.
it's also ok in many parts of the world to mutilate young women's vaginas and to rape babies as a way to cure AIDs, but that's just being cruel to compare these acts, since it's not as though one person were making a decision that could negatively impact the life or long term well-being of a child.
drink or don't drink during your pregnancy, its your own choice. not a single person in this debate has given any proof that they are in fact even in the medical profession, much less an ObGyn or someone intimately involved in the current research going on regarding alcohol and fetal development.
please, for the sake of all, get off the soap box and stop justifying a personal choice to engage in a risky activity.
and yes - drinking is risky during pregnancy as any and every chemical you ingest (second hand smoke, paint fumes, booze, etc.) goes through your blood stream into the child's. the same goes for breast feeding, people. this tiny little person with an already compromised immune system is literally living off the fluids you provide it, and you're making the conscious decision to add alcohol to their diet. think about it.
and to the people who said that their doctor recommends a few ounces of wine to help speed things along and induce labor...sex is also a great way to get everything going, the motive is to relax the pelvic floor and the body in general. there is no magic substance in wine that delivers babies, it's your own body calming down enough to deliver the child.
"consumption of less than 15 drinks per week was not proven to cause FAS-related effects"
"An analysis of seven medical research studies involving over 130,000 pregnancies found that consuming two to 14 drinks per week did not significantly increase the risk of giving birth to a child with either malformations or fetal alcohol syndrome"
"A number of studies have shown that light drinking (1-2 drinks/week) during pregnancy does not appear to pose a risk to the fetus."
"A follow-up of children at 18 months of age found that those from women who drank during pregnancy, even two drinks per day, scored higher in several areas of development"
You can drink a glass of wine when you're pregnant you fucking moron. You should make sure you have the correct information before you make yourself look like a complete ignoramus.
F**k you! A glass of wine here and there is absolutely fine - and it is none of your businness! I have been reading your posts for 7 years but won't be back again.
My stupid mother drank AND smoked the whole time she was pregnant with me and I've had health problems my entire life....I would NEVER wish what I've been through (and still am going through) on anyone else. If you can't quit that shit for 9 months you shouldn't breed.
Fetal alcohol syndrome is something children of alcoholics experience. Multiple international studies show that up to 2 glasses of wine a day is perfectly safe. Most women who are educated enough to be comfortable drinking during pregnancy have 1-2 a week or fewer. They're perfectly safe and perfectly reasonable.
OB-GYNs in the US firmly believe in practicing medicine by the cover-your-ass approach or by the 'that's just the way we've always done it' approach. Quoting one doctor in a field that's not known for it's evidence-based approach is idiotic.
In other words, if you can't stop after one or two, then you shouldn't drink at all during your pregnancy. If you're one of the five Americans that's capable of engaging in moderation, then you're fine, although fucking idiots will make uneducated comments at you.
Fetal alcohol syndrome is a serious condition and as there are curently no set "safe" amounts of alcohol one can drink - it's worth it to just say no. People who smoke/drink while pregnant and are not even willing to go just 9 months without a drink for the safety of their child are self-indulgent and ignorant.
I honestly hope someone takes control of all of the world governments, dictator-style, and then kills off anyone who doesn't pass a basic intelligence test. Half the people in this comment thread would be dead and the world would be a better place.
Alcohol of any sort during pregnancy is risking it. Are you THAT DESPERATE to get drunk or drink that you can't hold off 9 months when there is even a 0.00000000001% chance it might permanently affect your child's life for the next 70 YEARS? 9 months compared to 70 YEARS?
I seriously 100% hope any of you saying alcohol is alright are either sterile or don't plan to have kids, because you are the type of people who make the world a worse place to live in, both when it comes to intelligence quotients and common sense.
Anonymous - Will you circumcise your male children? Do you think it's OK? What about the oh .01% chance they'll die from it? SHOULD THOSE PEOPLE STILL BREED!?!?!?!? (OMGCAPSLOCK!!!)
oh my goodness...I am an FASD specialist. It is not ok to drink any amount of alcohol. Other countries are just not as knowledgeable about FASD yet...so they drink...and they have way more children with FASD. There are many published studies that explain that alcohol (which is way worse than any other drug- other than dilantin) can cause physical damage to the developing baby...including Brain damage!!! I work with the children whose mother's drank...if you have the choice to not drink and not take the risk...WHY WOULD YOU TAKE THE CHANCE??? Some doctors have not yet been taught and they are misinforming the public. It is all about lack of proper information. Please don't say things like "I think" or "I know of a mom who drank"...if you are not truly knowledgeable please don't have an opinion.

Their washed-up sorority girls moms are drinking an "occasional bottle of win" every night because they misinterpretted "an occasional drink of alcohol probably won't hurt the baby, but its best to abstain" to "my doctor RECOMMENDED that I drink every night".
By anonymous, on April 5, 2011 09:54:04
#34 and #37 were both alcohol babies.
By anonymous, on April 5, 2011 10:09:37
Who the FUCK says it's wine anyway looks suspiciously like filtered water TARDS you FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By Alaska King Crabbe, on April 5, 2011 10:23:14
My sister in law was a heavy drinker with both of her pregnancies, and both kids are super dumb. The older one has FAS facial features, too. She would fill her wine glass to the top. Then repeated that 2-3 times. Drinking during pregnancy is terrible, but if you want that dumb ugly kid, help yourself. Isn't it funny that they have to make car seat laws? Some people are so stupid.
By anonymous, on April 5, 2011 10:31:48
By anonymous, on April 5, 2011 10:41:11
If you cant give up alcohol for a pregnancy. A. you have no self control and B. Your making excuses for your lack of self worth that you need to drown out with a drink. Here is the problem with society. Educated people are not reproducing (1 maybe 2 kids or none) and the stupid people are and will continue to have (many) kids. Think about how the world will be in the next 50 years!
By anonymous, on April 5, 2011 11:03:26
It will be a tard baby no matter what she does because it's coming out of HER.
Just like her it will be famous for absolutely no reason.
By anonymous, on April 5, 2011 11:37:13
You're an idiot. A glass of wine a day during pregnancy has no effect on the pregnancy or fetus. Try doing a literature review in a medical library before opening your ignorant mouth.
By anonymous, on April 5, 2011 11:53:31
Only in the U.S. are people paranoid by this. In Australia doctors recommend no more than one to two standard drinks per day while pregnant. In Europe it's the norm too. We all turned out fine. It's a cultural thing; it's not based in fact.
By anonymous, on April 5, 2011 12:16:43
DUMB SLUT here - I have 3 healthy children - had a small glass of wine a few times during all my pregnancies. All doctors know that the occasional drink doesn't cause Fetal Alcohol syndrom but they can't SAY that b/c idiots like Todd will think that means all you can drink buffet is ok...American's need to learn about MODERATION (and Todd you have to SHUT THE HELL up about stuff you know nothing about - are you a little touchy about this for a reason? I think you know what I mean...)
By Dumb Slut, on April 5, 2011 12:35:35
Alcohol is poison, plain and simple. It should never be consumed when there is a baby inside...everything the mother eats and drinks, the baby does as well. And I am sure no one would give a baby alcohol after it was born, so why would it be ok when it is in the stomach?? stupid people.
By anonymous, on April 5, 2011 12:57:05
number 1, go die.
By anonymous, on April 5, 2011 12:58:19
#8 - how the hell do you figure that smoking while pregnant is "way more of an issue"?! they can pose exactly the same amount of problems and even if smoking IS worse for an unborn baby then alcohol, there is no way in fuck it is WAY more of an issue. Alcohol is horrible for unborn babies plain and simple and for you to degrade that idea by comparing it with smoking is just rediculous.
don't leave comments if ur just going to be an ignorant piece of shit...thanks.
By anonymous, on April 5, 2011 13:06:01
After the first trimester a glass of wine is harmless. It's the fools who go on benders while they're pregnant that have messed up babies. FYI - I *am* a medical professional.
By anonymous, on April 5, 2011 13:10:20
#20. Recommended it?? Liar.
and if ur not lying, which i am sure you are, get a new doctor....seriously!
By anonymous, on April 5, 2011 13:10:32
# 26. stfu. no one cares
By anonymous, on April 5, 2011 13:14:09
...BUT WHY TAKE THE RISK!? FUCKING BLOWN OUT BAR RATS
By anonymous, on April 5, 2011 13:22:55
Well the baby will be an alcoholic by 13 anyway. Why not start early?
By anonymous, on April 5, 2011 14:07:27
Holy shit this comments section appears to have been invaded by doctors.
By anonymous, on April 5, 2011 14:15:16
I love the site, but Todd maybe you should claim and raise some of your bastard children around the Raleigh area before you comment on parenting. From my extensive studying, most doctors say a glass of wine per day will not affect a baby. Case in point, my wife had maybe 7 glasses of wine during her pregnancy and our son is not only normal, he's fairly advanced. But we all enjoy our opinions. Oh and Flynt Flo$$y is my favorite rapper.
By LDYates, on April 5, 2011 14:56:40
Hahhahah I can't believe this actually started a heated DEBATE! Todd is truly hilarious.
By anonymous, on April 5, 2011 15:08:56
I'm no doctor, but that doesn't look like Kate Hudson or a glass of wine.
By anonymous, on April 5, 2011 16:11:29
Pregnant "injun's" neveerrrrrr drink I'm sure! RIght Todd?
By anonymous, on April 5, 2011 16:49:01
It might also have been a good idea for her to not have done this in front of cameras.
By Just saying, on April 5, 2011 17:37:39
By anonymous, on April 5, 2011 18:30:14
I'm a nurse. The only Doctors who say its ok to have wine or any alcohol are older ones who have not kept up on research. The idea of that having a glass or two a day is ok is not based on any research. All scientific research says you should not drink at all, and especially not early in the pregnancy.
By Kyle, on April 5, 2011 19:15:00
LOL people know you can drink red wine while pregnant right. No more than a certain amount of ounces. Look it up in the medical journal LOL still surprised at the heated debate.
By anonymous, on April 5, 2011 19:33:04
fyi
french doctors allow pregnant women 1 single glass of red wine per day as a maximum. Some of them even recommend it
and the french population is healthy, with no higher incidence of retarded/underweight/difformed babies
1 glass of wine does not make you a drunk
By anonymous, on April 6, 2011 00:04:06
as long as you don't drink during the third trimester, everything should be fine. It's that last couple of months when the fetus is about to become human that you have to watch out.
By SuperBreeder, on April 6, 2011 04:06:07
Key words here, for the retards:
"..blah, blah, blah, SHOULD be fine"
What?
Bitches.
By anonymous, on April 6, 2011 05:13:50
Go anywhere outside the US and doctors say it's not a problem to have a glass of wine or beer once in awhile during the second and third trimesters (Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.) They just don't recommend it in the US because Americans have a tendency toward binge-drinking. You tell an American woman she can have a glass of wine while pregnant and she hears, "You can throw six shots of tequila once a week and it'll be fine."
By anonymous, on April 6, 2011 06:32:00
Yeah, I'm #34 and I have a very close friend who was pregnant with twins, miscarried one twin at about 5 months and then lost the second one. With her next pregnancy, the doctor recommended a glass of wine per day as the effect of it was must less detrimental than most anti-anxiety and depression prescriptions out there.
Each of you saying that women who can't give up wine for nine months are dumb sluts, it's going to be your wife or girlfriend who needs to have a drink while pregnant to deal with your dumbass. For the record, I didn't drink while pregnant...the smell grossed me out.
By anonymous, on April 6, 2011 09:02:59
Haha, #49, so the baby is in my stomach? LOL!!!! And you're calling other people dumbasses?
By anonymous, on April 6, 2011 09:05:14
Hahaha @ #67. "It's that last couple of months when the fetus is about to become human that you have to watch out" Ummm... because before that, it's a mutant alien that your body has to warp into a human being???
Clearly, your mother was drinking while she was preggers with you! Good job on being able to walk without running into a lamp post on a daily basis.
By anonymous, on April 6, 2011 09:36:47
#67 is the exact opposite of the truth. It's almost beautiful in its wrongness...
By Kyle, on April 6, 2011 09:38:21
#39, you are an idiot.
#47, you all "turning out fine" is certainly debatable. In my eyes, the vast majority of Euros and Aussies have been stricken by FAS...you're just too retarded to realize it.
By Godless, on April 6, 2011 10:24:18
Absurd to not be able to abstain. I had a sip of wine when I was pregnant and felt so guility after, not worth it. Odouls with 3 limes in it tastes enough like corona if you miss the taste!
By anonymous, on April 6, 2011 10:46:43
#74: Coming from an American your comment carries no weight. You probably don't even own a passport or know where Europe even is. "What's Europe? That's a country, right?" Morons. The only weight Americans carry are around their big fat asses. Americans, on the whole, are the most retarded people on the planet. Bend over, China's about to fuck you up the ass. Yeah, you like that, don't ya.
By anonymous, on April 6, 2011 11:22:02
I never drank one sip of alcohol during any of my pregnancies. It wasn't hard.
I also didn't drink during the phases I breastfed. Again, it wasn't hard.
By anonymous, on April 6, 2011 11:26:04
I love all the compulsive soon to be moms that can't go without a drink. It's not good for any baby. Read a book, fire a good neuron and try some freaking juice or milk. F'ing tards.
By Jesus, on April 6, 2011 12:42:35
By Godless, on April 6, 2011 14:02:12
Well, Argentina has amazing Malbec wines... That´s a good reason...
By Clara, on April 6, 2011 14:10:18
Chill everyone. She's not Native American'ing it with booze and super glue. If it were that damaging to drink wine while pregnant, all the italians on the planet would be retards. Jersey Shore excluded. They are absolute fucking retards.
By anonymous, on April 6, 2011 14:40:14
why is this even an issue of personal habits?
if a doctor tells a patient that they should get a medical marijuana card, does that make it okay for everyone to smoke pot?
if a woman's doctor tells her it's okay to have a glass of wine every so often during the second and third trimester, or that she should do regular enemas to help alleviate bowel pressure as the fetus develops, or only have sex in a missionary position for her back pain (i figured i'd stay in the general and surrounding areas for the sake of conversation)...it's a decision made between a woman and a doctor who is privy to her medical history, family history, and general lifestyle.
it has NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU, or your neighbor, or your sister in law who has 3 great kids and drank all the time.
although it is acceptable in many parts of the world to drink small amounts of alcohol during pregnancy, i find it hard to believe that any doctor would advocate the idea.
it's also ok in many parts of the world to mutilate young women's vaginas and to rape babies as a way to cure AIDs, but that's just being cruel to compare these acts, since it's not as though one person were making a decision that could negatively impact the life or long term well-being of a child.
drink or don't drink during your pregnancy, its your own choice. not a single person in this debate has given any proof that they are in fact even in the medical profession, much less an ObGyn or someone intimately involved in the current research going on regarding alcohol and fetal development.
please, for the sake of all, get off the soap box and stop justifying a personal choice to engage in a risky activity.
and yes - drinking is risky during pregnancy as any and every chemical you ingest (second hand smoke, paint fumes, booze, etc.) goes through your blood stream into the child's. the same goes for breast feeding, people. this tiny little person with an already compromised immune system is literally living off the fluids you provide it, and you're making the conscious decision to add alcohol to their diet. think about it.
and to the people who said that their doctor recommends a few ounces of wine to help speed things along and induce labor...sex is also a great way to get everything going, the motive is to relax the pelvic floor and the body in general. there is no magic substance in wine that delivers babies, it's your own body calming down enough to deliver the child.

By Dr. Fuckyou, on April 7, 2011 07:02:40
F**k you! A glass of wine here and there is absolutely fine - and it is none of your businness! I have been reading your posts for 7 years but won't be back again.
By anonymous, on April 8, 2011 00:04:53
My stupid mother drank AND smoked the whole time she was pregnant with me and I've had health problems my entire life....I would NEVER wish what I've been through (and still am going through) on anyone else. If you can't quit that shit for 9 months you shouldn't breed.
By SolitaryAngel, on April 8, 2011 23:34:54
MUSE, a Radiohead tribute band ?!
Have you ever listened to any of these band's music?
You should be ashamed.
By Milou, on April 9, 2011 12:45:52
By Autodidact, on April 9, 2011 17:53:50
Fetal alcohol syndrome is a serious condition and as there are curently no set "safe" amounts of alcohol one can drink - it's worth it to just say no. People who smoke/drink while pregnant and are not even willing to go just 9 months without a drink for the safety of their child are self-indulgent and ignorant.
By bitingontinfoil, on April 10, 2011 06:25:59
By anonymous, on April 10, 2011 17:21:38
Anonymous - Will you circumcise your male children? Do you think it's OK? What about the oh .01% chance they'll die from it? SHOULD THOSE PEOPLE STILL BREED!?!?!?!? (OMGCAPSLOCK!!!)
By Autodidact, on April 12, 2011 13:18:17
oh my goodness...I am an FASD specialist.
